  1. Ok all brain guys as I'm only a foodie guy. Should we also include the dreaded TAX situation between the City and Counties? We have 3 cafes all are in a county, chesterfield or Henrico Tax in the Cafe's are 5% , now if we start one in the City we are at 11%. Thats not much of you are eating lunch, but High tickets make a big Difference. So , We have the banquet hall which is unique, dare I say second to the Jeff, in looks and feel at least, and guess what we have Really big ticket items that are at least 6% higher than others in the county ?? I think thats part of the reason the big guys don't want to play in the city so much, I mean I wouldn't pay more for a big ticket when I could drive 5 minutes and save a good amount. It would'nt matter what the city could do for me in tax abatements (sp) and such if I had to discount to make sales in my business.
  2. My boss recently talked with the owner of Tarrents on Broad and to clear up the expansion that was talked up is that he/they are taking the "gallery" space next door or west on broad and adding 10 table plus either a new kitchen or expanding the current one. The Broad street corridor meeting ( buisnesses from Fouchee to Belvedere) will be at our Location. The Renaissance Conference Center will host this Monday at 3pm as the breakfast meeting at 27 was a bit crowded I should here some good info on the area and will try to let you guys know whats discussed if you want
  3. Me too, I was at sticky rice last friday ( Raining!) It is still boarded up but there are some new steel beams that you can see from the outside where repairs were made. other than that there was nothing to note.
  4. Actually Burt, We were told that the original "Woodward and Lothrop", Woodies was in the retail side of our building as well as later a funiture showroom. The layout of the " Cornerstone " building on the retail side certainly lends itself well to a department store of some type. Currently is is sectioned off for seperate offices.
  5. Me too! It goes well with the surroundings! Course I hate it when older buildings are Razed but this look to be a major look and feel for the city..
  6. Agreed, My boss and friend were there and seated in the same general area as you and it was wonderful. We've taken clients there often being on the other end of the block ( Where the WRIR affair was) and always been very happy!
  7. They were quite attentive and alert. ( As well as stiking! )
  8. The intersection of Parham Road and Quioccosin Road is where Regency Square is, on the opposite corner there is a Ramada inn that the Velocity Room Club is in. You an see each although they are aprrox a block from each other and a major Intersection. I Think that would be great to be murder free for a bit.... Burt I edited the previous post with all the Tidbits from Texas De Brazil
  9. That is a shame, There was also a shooting at a club near the new Texas Brazil, " The Velocity Room " last weekend, where one person was taken to the medical services. This club seems to be very popular and offers an over 30's night on Friday and from what I hear in the street some youngsters wanted in and got mad. What happened to going out to have fun? I don't remember taking a handgun along for the night out with friends. I realize life may be tougher but Come on. Burt the club you mention, Caffein's, also was in recent carnation "The Cherry lounge" while the Matrix room but the crowd was rough enough that they moved on. BTW the DEA closed Caffeins, also known on Saturday nights as Boom ( A few years back) Strangly enough we have a cafe in the building that the gentleman worked his fulltime job. He was busted in the parking lot of the building and taken away. The club operators got into trouble since they knew he was selling his wares to the patrons. I've not ever understood looking the other way and allowing someone else set the course of my business. Might as well leave the place open 24/7 so others can decide your fate. Night life in the city is certainly brisk even though I feel that I need to look around after dark and be VERY aware. I know we certainly add sercurity to our parties for that reason , They run off many deadbeats, Panhandler and vagabons to keep our guest happy and the downtown experiance as nice as possible.
  10. Food was great , The salad would have been quite enough but we went all the way. Some notes to mention later on Sunday . Overall was a very nice evening! Party of 5 , bill #312.00 plus tip Great decor, Pleasing hosts, ( they are new and you can tell) Waitstaff rather a bit scattered and messed up drink orders twice, plus coffee order couldn't get we needed 3 coffee's not 2. The table of 5, I thought we were way to far in the up front area myself , We were seated at the entrance to the first Dining room on the left. Table was directly center in the door so that was a bit harsh, We crashed 2 waiters as we were getting up for the Salad area and the restroom. A bit too tight IMO. The food. Very nice extended Salad bar , This is not the ordinary bar bar. Spicy Crab Roll, Sushi style, Cured meats that were nicely displayed and tasted wonderful. Marinated olives, Several Nice greens for salads, A very nice custom drssing all thier own and 2 more popular one. Fresh Vegetable selections, Smoked Salmon ( YUM) Seared Tuna ( YUM YUM) and plenty more as well as Black Beans, Wonderful Rice and a Very Nice yet rich Lobster Bisque. Ok so you start with drink and then Help yourself to the foods bar. When you are ready you flip this grren or red coaster over to the green side to signal your ready for the meat entree's . That when the Goucho's start rolling in , And BOY do they. Roasted meats of all kinds, Chicken in Bacon, Seared Top Round, Flank steak that melted in your mouth, Filet Mignon, Lamb Chops Petite, Saddle of Lamb, Side of Turkey and plenty I just can;t remember. When you want to stop or slow down you flip the coaster to red. Each of the Party had one. We ate, had a few beers and ate some more. Dessert was nice and the coffee hearty enough to compliment the Super sweets for dessert. Burt, No they weren't full, as a matter of fact one room was never opened and we were there from 7pm till 9pm. They seemed to have plenty of servers available. I overheard the hostess on the phone while awaiting some of our group state that they were sold out for Saturday night, Perhaps they are just not ready for the full swing yet. All in All a Very fine dinner. 5 star... not , but if the servers and goucho's resolve some of the heavy accents that they have when they have to tall you repeatedly they sure could be. For those that care, the decor and buildout is very nice and the Gas torches outside are a nice touch, bathrooms quite nice but not well kept well from start to finish. Opps forgot the Valet Parking, Very nice Touch!!! For the others I am really a critical guy on restaurants, I eat at shoney's and many local and other chains so I'm not thinking I'm a snob, I feel I say what I see and Feel. Do Go to this one, I don't think you'll regret it,
  11. hmm are any of u running with foxfire as a browser? Mine automatically clear any cookies on exit which I think is what up has to leave on your system for it to remember you ...
  12. Me too Burt, A group of us are going this Saturday Night. I live near there and have been watching the progress of the building. For some reason they took one of the HUGE ! Torch lights down at the front end and I've yet to see the remainder lit. On another note. Sorry we never connected here in Richmond. I was a bit Busy opening an additional Cafe to our Business side of the Company. The office staff was scolded well as I notified them I was expecting you to come by and to show you around. Please accept my humble appologies . Dreadedly to catch you and the others up Since its been a while. Really busy Holiday Season, Power Surged the house at the end of September took out all the electronics, ( Yes all of them including the heat/ AC and My newest present 42" flatscreen. ) so I was using a cra py laptop until I could replace the stuff. We Closed the other addition that took most of the Summer to rehab, ( See the other posts) and thats it. Hope your wrists are well and MODERATOR you can move this over if you need but HEY the opening Site is pretty snazy!! :yahoo:
  13. Yes indeed, It is really a fine place !! They said this week and it sure looks like it. they said they had like 7 places in chicago, but this one would be lower key. By the looks of it, It will be fun !!
  14. Good Golly Burt, I am so sorry that I missed you and your Guest here in Richmond. We've simply never had a Wedding and Reception on a Tuesday Night, and for security of course we can't allow guests in teh Ballroom areas. Follow that with the Symphony Auditions Today and well what a week. Please try to come on back while you are here !!! Thanks for visiting !!

  16. Hey Gang, It should not be long now the Lights & Bar are in place but no evidence of kitchen equipment or Tables and Chairs. It looked like carpet was ready to be placed somewhere as there was a huge roll in the room today. The layout looks pretty kewl, ( forgot my phone has a cam ) more to come later
  17. Hey all Just letting you know that our Ribbon cutting should be in the Hopewell news for the "Point on The James" located on the Golf course at Jordan Point country Club. All you Guys and Gals come on by Tuesday evening the 15th between 5:30 and 8:30 and enjoy a cool beverage at the patio Tiki Bar or the 400# Carved Ice bar in the foyer, Add some emtertainment in the Ballroom and have some food prepared by yours truly! 18. Hmm I've not seen it out there, where is it?
  19. Please do come on by Burt Yes to "Point on the James" formally the Jordan Point Country Club. We are nearing completion of minor renovation Ie, Lots of new paint and Decor items. Light bulbs, Landscaping ect. The building while very nice had not been maintained preperly in quite some time. Quite a jolt as I had been blessed with memory loss from the first year at the Renaissance Conference Center Don't if I should so don't kill me but the web is www.(ourname).com it should show a few pics of the place as is now with more to come in the near future. shame you are now here on the 15th of this month we will have a grand open house! I could send you an invite
  20. FYI guys the starbucks in the Suntrust and Marriott hotel are B&I (business & Industry) mosels managed by their host food services. These differ in that they are not true Bucks and have lots of flexability in Food offerings but not the Coffee processes. The only Starbucks I know of is on Broad near the Lombardy intersection. Always busy !! Once the new hotel opens and now that some of the Apt on Grace are opening I bet it won't be long.
  21. Lunch sounds great! There is a restaurant called dockside near the bridge. but we are the restaurant formally called the shiproom. Ours is attached to the main house and banquet hall on the rivah. We don't do anything with the property of the golf course but we have the entire main building with the banquet hall ( under renovation ) and the restaurant. New name " Point on the James". the website isn't finished yet and I'm not sure if I can post it here
  22. Please do stop by any time but I may not be there unless its a Wednesday Morning and the W ends. We just took over the old Jordan Point Country Club outside of Hopewell on the Rivah and I have been tied up reopening the restaurant and remodeling the Hall and Banquet facilities to come of age... Just stop bye the office on the fourth floor and ask any of em to show you around
  23. The old Caffeine's has reopened as the Relocated "Cherry Lounge" It really seems to be hoppin on the weekends when I come through as does the cotton club. The building has a title over the door that has something metro in It I will look at it the next time I'm in the area.
  24. Is that a book fron the 1800's ?? We have her award for the building but did not know of a book ?? I want it ....................... hee hee
