  1. Not yet! The arena presentation is September 12th during the county meeting. The Citrus Bowl and PAC are before that, both in August, but I was distracted when Ms. Donahouge announced the dates.

It looks really really good for the Arena and PAC at this point, aside from Harris Rosen it seemed like everyone found the proposal reasonable and if they had concerns it wasn't anything that would causehuge problems.

I hope your right.Iam really interested in seeing how much money Devos is going to give. The paper quoted as saying it would be a substantial amount.I wonder how much that is?last time around he offered 10 mil.I hope its alot more than that this time cause thats just a drop in the bucket.Go magic

  2. I was driving West on Washington through Parramore and noticed a sign near the new Federal Courthouse that said "Luxury Condos Coming Soon." Anyone know anything about this? Is it apart of the redevelopment/gentrification of Parramore? I will see if I can get more info on this.

I really would have thought--especially considering the recent housing price crisis here in Central Florida--that Parramore's redevelopment would cater more to the middle and lower-middle class rather than otherwise. If Dyer wants to truly revitalize downtown, I think he should start attempting to bring the middle-class into Parramore.

I agree.I have said this b/4.In Indianapolis they had the same problem. The city state and feds got together and built 2 low to mid income apts downtown. They both are 45 stories each and really add to the view downtown.Looks to me like that something like that could be built in Parramore there are monies available for these type projects.

  3. The old facility needs to be quickly demolished, and the land sold to a private developer (so it gets taxed).....

The last thing we need is a long drawn out process on "what to do with the O-Rena"

Downtown Orlando does not need a large conference center.....

Why is everyone so ready to tear down the td waterhouse.I still think it could be utilized for something.Maybe ucf could use it in some way not as an arena but something else.It would be a shame to tear it down.

You all want a bold proposal (unless someone has already said it before)?

Here it goes: Build the new arena on the Pizzuti block-- then, you would have Lynx next door- future train terminal; and the lot would even have room for a slender tall hotel tower. put a couple of skywalks across Amelia for the parking deck and a mini-conference center for the new hotel.

Its a great idea... B/c of Orange, it would develop the hec out of the whole area.

    or... not.

As for a conference center, Former Radisson has meeting roms as does Marriott. We lost Expo Center. I think that those meeting areas were rationed based on 20 year old population numbers. DT needs a decent-sized facility to compete with other DT's in this state. Nothing too huge, but adequate.

Is that site large enough for a arena?

  4. Thanks for the update on that

I agree with you 100%, we need a new arena, no question

If Miami can get a new one within a decade and Jax can get a stunning one with no definitive tenant beyond JU, then certainly we deserve one also

My question is this, if there is a chance that the tax increase is not approved (God help us) is there any clear idea as to whether or not the Magic well finally "screw this, we're going to Vegas or elsewhere" or are there any other options beyond to prevent it from happening?

Also, where in downtown can we realistically expect the new arena to be located?

Personally, I think the Magic should find a temp home whether at UCF or Tampa/ St. Pete Times Forum for 2 seasons while the TD Waterhouse is imploded and a new one built on the same spot

But, if this is not possible and Magic have to still play at TD, where else in downtown can new arena be built and still be viable?

I think the further you push back into Parramore or out towards the Citrus Bowl, the worse it could become

I disagree.Play at td waterhouse till new arena is built. Then the td waterhouse can be used for other things. It would be a waste of mney to tear it down.
  5. Another good view of the Vue is driving in towards downtown north on Orange Ave. You can see it at a pretty good distance now.

How bout some nite photos from a distance

  6. Well Orlando might not get the Marlins but according to this weeks OBJ it looks like Disney is making a hard push for the Cleveland Indians to move their Spring Training Home to the Wide World of Sports. They would share facilities with the Braves. Apopka was also mentioned as a possibility along with a few other SW Florida Cities but Disney looks to have the most serious offer. The Indians will definetly be moving out of Winter Haven soon...

To heck with spring training i want a major league team here in Orlando.Anyone else feel that way

  7. Vue is quickly beginning to overtake the Eola Center bldg. I think they are adding 1 level per week now.

I would love to see some to photos of Vue's progress.Anyone got new pics lately.

  8. As someone quoted in the Sentinel said (maybe Mel Martinez?), he has as much say as to how that money is spent as the manager of a 7-11 as to how their sales tax receipts are spent. Which ain't much.

I agree.Martinez is onour side and i understand he and Rosen or not allies. In fact they dontr like each other.Maybe Mel will help us out down here.

  9. My sources tell me that Crotty did not say it. It was a low level staffer. The CRA is not going anywhere. Parramore is still blighted and they cannot do away with the CRA until all of downtown is not blighted.

I agree with all of you guys about this tourist tax thing.imo the problems isnt so much with crotty as it is with the big hotel owners like rosen and all those people. He thinks that none of the tax money should be spent on downtown orlando. He and his buddies want all the money for advertisement and the convention center. Now all that said how does any of those things benefit any of us poor folk that live here and only want to enjoy some of the venues we have and need updated or a new one.I dont help him out at all.

  10. There is a lot of silence around this project. I would think with the spectre of much higher gasoline prices, they would be taking the opportunity to push the project as much as they can.

I agree. But on the bright side just think the higher prices for gas equals more people wanting to live closer to their work.I think this is really helping those folks dowtown to sell their condos

  11. Another way of looking at it the last picture. From the left, are Capital Plaza II, then Capital Plaza I (both blue), the the shorter tan Embassy Suites. The next building in that row would be TT.

Thanks then tt would be closest to the lake?

  12. some points on why so many pedestrians get run over. i haven't looked at any studies, but just some thoughts...

SUV drivers (that think they are driving a car instead of a truck)

Some major crosswalks have signals, but they don't ever give an allotted time for pedestrians to walk. They are always on the 'hand' signal. This makes it very confusing for pedestrians.

    Cell phones while driving.

This one may be a stretch... but with Florida being very flat, during peak drive times, the sun is either directly in your face or your rearview mirror going East-West.

Your right.Iam a deputy sheriff and have seen my share of accidents. One thing in particular is people running red lights. When entering the intersection and the light turns yellow what do u do.Slow down and come to a complete stop as the statute reads or try and beat the light.Everyone that reads this forum knows that ur supposed to slow down and stop but 99 percent of people try to bbeat it because they are in a hurry add to that cell phones and you have a total plan for diaster
