  1. From reading the article i dont get the feeling that this is going to fall through. I just think it may delay the vote a little bit but i hope the county commissioners as well as the city put their ego in check and make sure they come to an agreement.

i HOPE YOUR RIGHT.i SORT OF TOOK IT THAT WAY ALSO.NOW ITS GOOD TO GO OVER ALL THESE ISSUES BUT WE HAVE BEEN SQUABBLING OVER THIS FOR 2 YEARS.jUST BUILD THE DAMNED THING.tHE TAX MONEY DONT BELONG TO HARRIS ROSEN OR ANY OTHER HOTELIERS.THE TAX BELONGS TO THE STATE.COUNTY AND CITY LETS USE IT FOR US SO WE MIGHT GET A LITTLE ENJOYNMENT OUT OF IT.i THINK THE MAGIC ARE DOING THE RIGHT THING THEY ARE LOOKING OUT FOR THEIR OWN INTERESTS AND I DONT BLAME THEM.lET JUST GET THIS THING DONE SO ORLANDO CAN BECOME A FIRST CLASS CITY.GO MAGIC

  2. this is fascinating stuff.

great project; of course I will say too bad on the loss of height. But, that is as they say is that.

thanks for your insight and input, Michael.

Thanks Michael hope you guys build this thanks for the rendering also!

  3. I still think that if u want to build new road, you should toll the people that use it to build it. Not increase the toll at somewhere else to build new road and then toll us again when the new road is done. Loan enough money to build the new one and paying it back with toll.

We all know that they are not going to remove the toll or reduce toll when they make money. Increasing toll is a just a one way street to higher cost for consumers.

I agree or take all the tolls off the roads and make them free to use thus maybe not having to spend more money on other roads. What i dont get is they use tax money to build these roads and are supposed to stop charging tolls after the roads are paid for good example is FLA turnpike!

  4. Don't get me wrong, I really love TT. But seriously, TT wouldn't be as stunning or novel as it is now without being two towers connected by the skybridge. What was great about 215 E. Central is that it added another layer of depth to downtown. Having a tower that tall on the north side of Central and corner of Rosalind would have made both streets significantly more urban and important to pedestrians. Just my HO.

I agree.Does anyone know why it was rejected?

  5. Yes and the demand for rentals is high because of all the condo conversions that have happened in Orlando. Rents are supposed to go up almost 10% next year because of this.

I pose this question and this is just everyones opinion.Potentially how many renters and how many owners do you all think will live in the downtown core?Or how many project do we have uc or proposed that will be apartments for rent versus owners?

  6. I love these recent pictures

    This place is so amazing

I can't believe this used to be a rotted out ghetto, a shell of what once was

    Kudos to Kuhn

    Kudos to Dyer

Thank god someone like Dyer stood up to the preservation board and made it happen

    I agree

  7. Welcome back (I hope)!

Me too i miss ya Orlandonative.I dont know squat about this stuff but i sure do like to look at the photos.Go Magic!!!I also love your posts.I really do meant it

  8. Didn't notice that until you pointed it out.

I still say build a baseball stadium where the current arena is and get the Marlins here. A stadium with downtown Orlando as the outfield backdrop would be dramatic. If we can't get MLB then go for minor league ball. AAA baseball would be great too, and probably more competitive in a city of Orlando's size.

MLB or nothing.I think that we could support it here and in the future.Small minds need to think big.Gotta spend money to make money!

  9. Are you talking about high-rise projects? That proved to be the wrong solution in the '60s and '70s. High concentrations of poverty create their own set of social ills that are hard to combat. Didn't Chicago demolish all of their high-rise projects and replace them with mixed-income housing? In parts of Manhattan, public housing dominates some neighborhoods like Central Harlem so much that "gentrification" will never take hold even when condos are selling for more than $1M two blocks over.

I personally won't be happy with the government warehousing the poor. I'd much rather the government invest in the schools of Parramore and give the children a realistic chance to dream of being something more than football/basketball players and drug dealers. The aesthetic of the built environment of the neighborhood does matter a lot, but high-rises that look good from the East-West or I-4 as we drive by aren't the answer.

    Good point

  10. Just wonder why taxpayer have to subsidize cost so certain people can live downtown and those of us want to live downtown but cant afford it get nothing.

Good question, though the answer is very difficult and delicate. I would love to live downtown and Parramore is my only option. But I am not elderly and do not currently live in the community, therefore I am not on the priority list. But I would like to think that I would add greatly to the community if I lived there.

The elderly should be the priority for the community. 1st come 1st serve for everyone else. If OC and the City provide options for the elderly, I believe that they will have 100% support of the community. The rest of the pushers, pimps, prostitutes, slumslords and whomever else (i.e non voters) can kiss my *** and leave.

As i have commented on here before. Why cant the government county state and feds build some nice high rise Apartment complexes in Parramore.Just thing 2 or 3 30 or 40 story high rises in the area.Everyone would be happy even all of us her 0n Urban Planet!

  11. Hi, I just joined but have been reading for quite some time. Thanks for the news on the closing schedule. I have a unit at the top. I hope the closings go from bottom to top!

    Nice to meet you all.

    -Michelle

    Welcome aboard Michelle

  12. I've glanced through these posts very briefly, as there have been quite a few in a short time period. My thoughts personally are fairly simple but also tend to be a bit biased so I will suffice it to say that I too love shiney new toys, so bring it on. In the end I think it is safe to say that someone always feels like they are getting screwed.

This whole debate kind of reminds me of the time when we were discussing Cameron Kuhn getting city incentives for The Plaza.

What this whole thing boils down to is this.Does Orlando want a nba team here and hopefully get a fottbal and basball big league team here eventually. We all know that in a matter of a few short years we will have the population to support all three. If we want to play with the big boys we have to shell out the money just like any other big city imo.

  13. If the PAC doesn't get more money they're not going to move to Tampa.. if the Citrus Bowl doesn't get any more money they really only endanger two bowl games. If the Magic don't get their arena they most likely end up leaving...or blackmailing the city more overtly. It's nice to have standards but for sports teams/arenas when there are maybe 100 other cities with markets suitable for your team that are happy to build a castle for free for them getting any contribution might seem like a victory. Denver bent over and happily asked the Denver Broncos to rape them with their new stadium, on the plus side the team not only stayed in Denver but the stadium was still downtown and not in a suburb, the tax dollars that will be reovered from the fans going to the arena really probably balance out what was given to the team for the stadium in the long run. I would imagine the same thinking about keeping the fans not only in the Orlando area but the city itself and close to a downtown that's basically being born from scratch in the next 10 years would mean it's probably a better deal than not for Orlando.

I agree.Or let just run the magic out of town dont build an arena and the old td waterhouse can set empty and we all lose out.

  14. Personally I don't think it's the place of tax dollars to go to pay for any arenas, pacs, art museums, ect. Unfortunatley it happens all the time across the country. I am not for it but I think Orlando deserves an arena and that's how the system works. What can ya do?

Or we can give all the tax money to rosen and the hoteliers and they can put more ads on tv i dont get your point.Tjis is good for all of us the live in Central FL.
