  1. Thanks .....what is going on with Ms. Wilson? Always seems to have controversy and conspiracy surrounding her.
  2. This article is in today's Anderson Independent Mail on-line... city wants to buy Kroger River St. site for offices. http://www.independentmail.com/news/2007/j...go-renovations/
  3. Zara is trendy ....we live in Bucharest (Romania) and there is one here ....women's store with men's next door. It is ultra-cool and popular. Most people think Bucharest and think poor, but there is money here and we have all these names I read here.... Miss Sixty and all those are everywhere here. BTW, from SC, so ATL was our 2nd home and Lenox was always a 1st choice for a day in the city.
  4. Where exactly is the new Bi Lo verdae?
  5. As I understood it, definitely the neighborhood. Sometimes the theft late at night was so brazen people just carried things out of the store. Employees were too afraid to stop them and the police were there all the time. They finally cut their losses and closed shop. It seems that they were told the River St. store was a really bad idea, but not being a local chain, all they saw was a lot of potential customers.
  6. The Kroger downtown Anderson closed after a short run because of theft. The store was carried out bit by bit. I worked for a "rival" at the time and it was common knowledge that they were being taken. They finally cut their losses and closed. No one ever even tried to go there again.
  7. Wednesday's Anderson Independent newspaper's on-line version has an article about Bi-Lo and Food Lion joining Ingle's at Hwy. 24 and Whitehall Road. (andersonindependent.com) I grew up out there in that area..... hard to believe it. Anyone remember when the ONLY thing out there was Davis and Elrods?
  8. For what it's worth, maybe the Hwy. 29 area could handle a Super wal-Mart to accomodate all of the people in Williamston / Belton and northern Anderson County. They often drive to Greenville (White Horse Road area) to shop and the Honea Path people go to Greenwood. 29 at Hwy 8 (if the roads were better) might be good place, or at the 81 / 85 exchange.
  9. Yes, thanks for mentioning B & N or Borders.... I think it could fly at the mall, especially if tied to the front or the food court. I have a dream where Sears leaves (to do some Grand thing at the Kmart down the street) and then that could become a big bookstore. Or, in another senario, Sears leaves, Dillard's rebuilds there and the bookstore takes the old Belk Men's location after we force them to move!
  10. I wanted to throw in a comment about Anderson Mall.... it really has potential to make it. I think that Belk should consolidate everything to their wing of the mall, Dillard's should raze the "Men's store" and build a simple 2 story site there and then Dick's Sporting Goods should build a store where the old theater is now. This would give some new blood to it all. There are several national chains that could do well there if the mall were postioned a bit better.
  11. I'm from the Upstate but we live in Romania right now ....what actually defines "midtown" for Greenville?
  12. How long will this outdoor lifestyle trend last? Can we expect more in the South and if so, where is it most likely? Does it always even need a department anchor?
  13. When it was still Rich's at Perimeter, it was consistently the chain's highest performing store. Perimeter, in my opinion, just screams "upscale and casual wealthy."
  14. ...never been to CVM but love reading about it. I like it when these older malls can kick it to be better than the newer ones. I wish McAlister in greenville could have survived. Want to say that the Lord & Taylor logo is the best ever ......only thing ever any better was the old John Wannamaker logo ...something about that cursive swaying!
