  1. one would think, it should have happened prior to where we are now. I mean, the DOT should have alerted the Governor since this was affecting the future of mass transit that they have been aggressively been trying to grow...
  2. PROJO: "CVS offers compromise plan to preserve train station" http://www.projo.com/business/content/BZ_T...93.21adbe0.html
  3. OK, the 190 dyer one - I remember now that I went over and read it. I was confused with that and the rumored hotel conversion 'east of dorrance.' I hope either one gets going soon!
  4. is there a thread for 190 Dyer?? I that the once rumord FD tower??? Cotuit...???
  5. ooooh, ooooh - I just saw #6 - it's the 'new year' now. We could REALLY use a new office tower (with a tenant of course)...
  6. the developer has promised to build a T stop with his own money. MY ARSE HE WILL!
  7. the more I think about this whole thing, the more I wonder if there was anyone invloved that hasn't completely mis-managed thier interests - what a mess!
  8. what blows my mind is why wouldn't PAW/CF work on an incentive laden package with the developer, CVS, other retail/food venders, the DOT and the MBTA on a facility that would have provided all of the desired elements. Tax breaks for the developer to ease the risk of taking on the entire project. The developer could have been given a % of parking revenue for any CR parking lot or small garage. The developer would also keep most of the leased space revenues from CVS and any food vendors as part of the train facility. CVS could have built a unique intigrated pharmacy/convenient store as part of a new (or rehabbed) train station and shown community involvement/partnership in providing said venue as part of a much needed transportation improvement project. The community gets jobs, CR service in both directions (lets not forget that the trains will be eventually be going all the way to Westerly in years to come, including TF Green Airport), economic development, community development, improved infrastructure and value, and pratical amenities... talk about a win-win-win!
  9. Number of trains/frequencies that South Attleboro has that Providence station doesn't: 0, zero, zilch. They share the same exact number of trains (in fact they are the same exact trains themsleves at 15 per weekday). I do agree with this point of view, but must say that the fate of the current depot building does not prohibit or necessarily guarantee commuter rail to PTCT/CF. While I can't speak for the environmental groups, I can guess that the transportation people were not necessarily invited or needed to be there at this stage (why would they want to be under the circumstances) since any commuter rail is years away regardless if it's in the old depot or a brand new facility. My personal feeling is that a rehab of the current depot would be a quicker/easier step towards CR, but not an absolute requirment for it to eventually happen. The issue here is these 2 cities' inability to secure a spot for an eventual station and related positive community development (among other things from what I read in here) and subsequent tragesty that is unfolding with this location from a historical, cultural, and moral standpoint...
  10. wow - it took me all day to get caught up on this being away from my computer all day yesterday. I can only hope that commuter rail can still materialize in PAW/CF with or without the current building. It does suck that things went this way though...
  11. Station on Track for Demolition (PROJO) http://www.projo.com/ri/pawtucket/content/...4U.337f0d2.html This is getting uncomfortable for me. Why can't the city give the developers a huge tax incentive or something to pay to fix up the station AND build thier stupid CVS (maybe even incorportae the 2 somehow). ARRRGHH
  12. from the projo (11/11/06): TRAIN STATION BATTLE PAWTUCKET
  13. again, this is certainly a good thing and needs to keep moving forward...
  14. http://www.boston.com/news/globe/magazine/...10/29/going_up/ this is a MUST READ. Awesome article!
  15. Gilbane selected as Warwick Intermodal Station construction manager: http://warwickonline.com/warwickonline/ind...3&Itemid=30
  16. the whole commutaer rail package (Pawtucket/CF, Warwick, Wickford, Kingston, Westerly and maybe Cranston & EG) can't be in place soon enough for me!
  17. I don't disagree, but I would hate for RIDOT to secure service that ends up flopping terribly since it's easier to get new service than see service return on something that once failed...
  18. yes, people do travel 7 days a week. But the train may not support enough non-business day traffic to feed just the airport and weekend city events and shopping. Saturday is far and away the slowest air travel day (and the airlines schedule as such). To be honest, RIPTA express buses could run up route 4 and 95 on the weekends until enough train traffic was generated for the airport and city runs.
  19. from what I have heard, the MBTA has committed to running 8 weekday roundtrips between TFG and SoSta. I've posted a few articles regarding RIDOT securing 3.5M for the purchase of news cars/locomotive for the expanded service. Since we have until 2009 before the station opens, perhaps the continued success of the Providence weekend service will show reason to extend those down to TFG. Wickford Junction should also open in 2009, so it will take some time to see what the actual travel patterns and trends end up being. It will also depend when/if URI/Kingston and Westerly come on-line for commuter rail. Cranston, EG, and Pwtucket/CF are all hoping to get into the action as well. The more stations that come to fruition, the more likely we will see additional MBTA service and/or Shore Line East or RIPTA-run trains doing some runs. the runway extension is still being studied in the EIS process and will be for another year. not sure what you mean by saying an 'incoming and outgoing flights section" - sorry, but feel free to elaborate...
  20. they should be selecting a construction management firm very soon.
  21. thats what I thought - differant than the Hilton stuff...
  22. what plans have been released regarding the old gas station site?? I thought nothing was imminent yet. Leaks of a Hilton expansion and parking garage have been heard lately but that's not the same lot is it???
  23. The RFQ for a construction manager has hit the street and is due by 8/15... http://www.pvdairport.com/ktml2/files/uplo...RFQ%2020717.pdf
