  1. Even not being one of the more architectur-ie types in here, I found this very interesting: " The building

Warwick Beacon: "Gilbane gets green light for intermodal" http://warwickonline.com/warwickonline/ind...6&Itemid=30 Here are 2 older articles that didn't get posted yet: Warwick Beacon (5/27/08): "Intermodal project already $34M more than first projected" http://warwickonline.com/warwickonline/ind...4&Itemid=30 Beacon (5/27/08): "Editorial: Balancing needed road repairs and the intermodal project" http://warwickonline.com/warwickonline/ind...5&Itemid=33
  3. OK, then. The existing plan between RIDOT and MBTA is for 8 trains in/out of Warwick to South Station. I assume there will be 8 between Wickford and Warwick as well. There is currently 15 weekday trains between Providence and South Station, so they plan on extending just over half of them. As I have said before, the Woonsocket to Quonset commuter rail would be awesome and could really work given the factors involved (P&W is rumored to be interested, they have rolling stock available, the tracks are easily accessible and won't need to be 'paid' for, and AMTRAK is minimally involved for access to Providence Station). SLE seems like a no-brainer too, but that is harder to pull off logistically and financially.
  4. Is this new information? I had heard that there would be 8 per day on the MBTA to South Station. 12 would be great! I also am a firm believer in the Woonsocket to Quonset line using the P&W freight rail (the State owns that), which would save lots of money in not having to pay to use those tracks and P&W could provide the service relatively inexpensively. As far as AMTRAK goes, they were supposed to have a vote on the agreement last week, but have seen nothing in the papers - never mind that they will stop there if there is demand. The Shore Line East has been talked about publicly as well. I hope you're right!!!

  7. The work is mostly being done in front of the airport right now. The construction trailer complex has been put in place on the east side of the tracks and they just finished knocking down a building on the southern tip of the project area (formerly part of the D'Ambra construction property). The garage & station are mostly per-cast, so that will be put together towards the end of the overall project.
  8. so out of the above list, Sierra Suites is the only one that is pretty certain to happen, while VDT, 190 Dyer, and Metro Lofts are perhaps better than 50/50 in the short term?

  15. when I have time, I'll grab some photos of the work that is already underway...
  16. well, hay bales are an obvious sign of erosion control, as required by RI & DEM laws and the fence is also obvious to some sort of activity/construction to protect the public. I'm very curious to know what is going on there as well.
  17. it kind of sounds like they are still pushing for additional weekend and/or any Amtrak service.
  18. I know the rail runs right next to route 95, which is just east of the PBI airport - I don't think there is a rail link from the PBI terminal though...
  19. yes, we are talking about types of rail/transport between airports and downtowns/city center, etc.
  20. St. Louis has direct light rail service from Lambert to downtown too, but no Amtrak or Commuter rail that I kow of.
  21. Shore Line East, Amtrak Regional, and even a TBD operator (P&W??) could all someday provide more service.
  22. so what you're saying is that it's a little behind schedule? I simply can't wait for this thing to get going. I can promise all of you that I'll have frequent pics until it's DONE!!
  23. the added costs for an automated people mover wouold have killed the project that has already been a decade in the making.
