  1. I'm cool. No offense at all. Unless the paint scheme changes, I won't be getting exactly what I thought I would.
  2. Here's a photo from Saturday. And another showing how it blends with the surroundings. Now that you've pointed it out, I can see the cheap 80s perspective. Thanks! Just kidding. I like it.
  3. More progress today. The Renwick construction fence is done. Looks like they will be taking a part of the Hoefner Center parking lot along with the basketball courts. I also saw that 8th Square pre-sales are starting this week.
  4. The Renwick construction fence is 50% complete. These folks are starting to look serious. I also saw a lot of utility line/pole work around 6th & Davidson. Looks like they're about to move the lines to the south side of 6th.
  5. I love this house. It was on the market about a year ago and I was so tempted. The Observer did a piece on it in Aug. 2004. (PLUM PURPLE OUTSIDE - SHELLEY AND BOBBY WORKMAN'S HOME IN NODA IS, TO PUT IT MILDLY, UNUSUAL PLUMB DIFFERENT INSIDE) The couple was very creative. Urbana helped out. They put a swing in the kitchen. Their tub is on the second floor overlooking the first floor. There are 45 windows. A lot of the materials were salvaged to keep control costs.
  6. http://www.urbanplanet.org/forums/index.ph...01entry316201 Great comment. MStreet has a similar issue. People in those prime front corner units will be able to touch the poles from their balcony.

    Courtside

A few shots of Courtside's progress from today: My lighting is bad, so you probably can't see the silverish gray color on the fin where some of the protective coverings have fallen off. Not a great way to meet the street. Furman said he worked hard on this and that it will look better when it's complete, "but it's a parking garage". I am surprised he didn't wrap the garage with units. The other side (facing the elder home) is a bit less attractive.
  8. Took this today. If you strain your eyes you can see the little strings...
  9. Really amazing. Thanks for the pics. It'll be great to pull these up again in about 5 or 10 years. That car is a work of art! You don't see that in Cameron Wood.
  10. Everybody will be in their unit by the end of May. You could see some folks move in first of April, if not sooner. There's a lot of geegaw activity on the rear. I'll get some photos this weekend.
  11. This is a shot of M Street on the 7th St. side today. The brick has been added. It's a brown color. Not sure what is going on with the paint scheme. Renderings indicate a lot of red or brick, however this shot suggests a mult-color scheme. Or maybe they're re-thinking the red. The wife says I have to take a photography course befoe I can buy a new camera. So for now UP will need to suffer through my 3.2 megapixel.
  12. Interesting. What's the connection between Long's and Reese? You can also download Reese's presentation here: http://www.charmeck.nc.us/Departments/BOCC...as/06-01-18.htm So what's Jerry's background? According to his website, http://www.lawyers.com/tryonlegalgroup, he's from Hickory and he's had a lot of academic success. Where's he getting the money for the renderings and such?

OK. Pics. Not great or good. Just showing some of the new work on the back and progress on front. View from from the arena on E. 5th: Back view of striping and geegaws (the little white dots): Larger view of the photo above.

^ I had to look up geegaw. gewgaw (G(Y)OO-gaw), noun: A showy trifle; a toy; a splendid plaything; a pretty but worthless bauble. Then I had to look up bauble. bau
  16. Soil testing on the Quarterside/Citysquare site today.
  17. QUOTE(atlrvr @ Jan 9 2006, 02:14 PM) Sig Arnesen? If so, he works for Levine. Last I heard, Art got into importing and exporting, but was thinking about getting of the exporting and focusing on the importing. Yeah Sig is probably what my friend meant. Sid Farkus was a bra salesman. Can't see trading that for a stint with Levine. My friend is an idiot.
  18. Nothing changed that I know of. Couldn't recall a discussion and I was interested in what people thought of it. A friend went to the Secure office to see the model. He said a man there claimed to be working on the project. The man introduced himself as Sid Vargas or something like that. Wondering if it was really Levine. He was about 6', grey streaks, slim.
  19. QUOTE(swh1972 @ Dec 8 2005, 02:56 PM) * Construction to begin the week of December 12 per the developer. laugh.gif Still nothing happening. Now I'm wondering if the money is nervous with the new Furman project coming next door. Why not just forget The Renwick and the CHA apts. and leave this as a park? With all the residential in process the park wouldn't be isolated anymore. The county was planning to move the park a few blocks north, but with Levine's park coming, I'm not sure it makes sense to have 2 parks so close together. Just an idea.

    Courtside

Tri Stae Foam truck parked in front of Courtside this morning. Delivering EIFS no doubt. Bummer. http://www.tri-state-foam.com/
  21. What do you think of the parntenership with Faison just announced. They have some heavy hitters on their board, most notably Hugh McColl and William H. Grigg (formerly of Duke Energy). The underground parking/park need city help. Is this going to get it? BTW, does anyone know what Dan Levine looks like?
  22. First Ward Neighborhood Association had a good meeting last night. I was there for the last few minutes of the board meeting and all appeared very civil and productive. I think we'll see the group become more active this year. They will appoint committees at the next meeting to focus on specific topics. With new real estate developments on tap for the ward, plus the need for a new 1st Ward Park, the timing is good for a renewed organizational vigor.
  23. Things are a bit quiet so I decided to share the photos from my MStreet visit today. I took some exterior and some interior shots. I also noticed activity on what seems like the Quarterside site. Looks like they are digging up the 1st Ward Park. If the weather cooperates, I'll investigate further tomorrow. Starting from the rear of the site on E. 7th: Then at E. 7th & N. McDowell (from the Quarterside site): On N. McDowell from in front of the IME church (the new E. 8th St. ext. is in the background between the spires): Little further down at 8th & McDowell looking into the E. 8th St. entrance: At the rear on M St.: Looking toward the Square from M St.: Looking up the new E. 8th St. extension from M St.: Inside a unit on E. 7th: Only one of these signs and no English version. Good thing my son knows Spanish. Inside a N. McDowell unit: Looking at M St. from a N. McDowell unit: Another view from a N. McDowell unit. Nice:
