  1. Is that still happening? The site sign was missing last time I went by there a few weeks ago. Their website is offline too.
  2. Excellent work. BTW The Towns is a project in Winston-Salem. It's listed on their curremt site. http://www.blvdcentro.com/wsalem2/towns.htm
  3. Also said he's making the residential 90 units/acre instead of 50, which is good I think. He said the total # of units is undetermined. He also said the office space may be scaled back while the retail may stay as planned. Sounds like everything is undetermined.
  4. Here are the renderings for 7th & McDowell (top) 8th & McDowell (bottom).
  5. Court6 progress as of 12-19-05: 6th & Davidson: Davidson at Hoefner Center:
  6. The spires at M Street (at 8th & McDowell) have been installed: Siding has also been added to some units on 7th (bottom sections will get brick):
  7. With all the discussion of a ballpark, I think it's worth remembering the success of Cameron Yards. http://www.cameronyards.com/history.asp Discuss!
  8. Well said. I was thinking the exact same stuff, except I didn't know about the Matthews projects. Also Elric is right on. If Levine waits, his property can only go up in $. And it's not like we really need more development Uptown at this moment. It's kinda nice knowing there's a project waiting when other projects subside. I'm wondering if we can't force an historic designation for those buildings somehow.
  9. I like the class this adds even wihtout a more dramatic change. I think what we give up in the level of change will be made up by the fast transformation. Of course we still have an opportunity for larger scale improvements, as they have hinted at changing the land around the hotel. There's a great opportunity to connect to and leverage the midtown re-building and the greenway.
  10. Yessir, 6th to 7th unless that changed since we backed out more than a year ago. Wish I kept the plans they gave us. I remember all the 2BR taken on the 6th street side. Remember too that the developer will add an apartment building between Myers and The Renwick. That was still the plan as of October according to the Charlotte Business Journal. http://www.bizjournals.com/bizspace/charlo...tory_id=1183310
  11. He means the rec center, etc. Yeah, that's it dub.
  12. If you think about it, and Courtside's backside aside, we are damn fortunate Furman is the major influence in First Ward. Imagine if some hack architect had the influence Furman has had.
  13. I love Reid's so I'd vote for them to move from 7th St. Station into an expanded location here. That would keep competition up and provide choices, especially with Whole Foods going to Elizabeth. An ethnic grocrery wouldn't be bad either. Another grocery will probably be needed though.
  14. Dr. Hoagland spoke during the arts plan presentation at the City Council meeting 11/28 (if I recall). He is against moving the African American Cultural Center from 7th St. in First Ward to S. Tryon across from the new Wachovia tower. He specifically cited the council for a lack of public input to the decision. In calling for a process similar to the West Park public comment process, he said West Park would be the greatest U.S. urban park ever. He had a good point, but I think it was lost in the over-dramatization. Plus the AACC will have a wider audience on S. Tryon.
  15. I walked through the site today. Yes there are 2 bulldozers there. Also, a big steel thing that looks like a giant wedge. New markings have been made too.
  16. I could use some drama. What happened? Did they see his speech to the city council last week?
  17. Of course Parkisde next to condos would be consistent given that there's no garden in the Garden District.
  18. I wasn't aware of phase 2. Do you where that would go? Are they taking the old houses on 8th/McDowell? I hope you're right about leaving it alone. It's nice to have it so close to the community center with 1st Ward Park going away. Went by the land in question today and got a photo for those who are unaware. The AACC is behind the little white houses on the right. Alexander meets E 7th in the foreground and Parkside Terrace is in the background with the houses in front of it. In the foreground left is First Ward Place. The community center is behind me.
  19. That's actually great news. Would be exciting to see something developed that's not just a hotel and parking lot. The land is a key connection point between Uptown, Dilworth, the LSC greenway and Midtown.
  20. AACC is moving to the Wachovia 1st St project, according the Observer this morning. Guess that means the city will pursue selling to Furman. Good to hear about the retail space on Furman's project. Still, I think the loss of greenspace to build the Episcopal school should mean the city makes it up somewhere else in the vicinity. Parkside seems like the perfect space and the old church there could be integrated into the park with retail and eating establishments. Besides, how could we call it Parkside if there's no park?
