  1. Pile driving is underway. I'm guessing we'll see this start going vertical by the summer.
  2. This city, man, I tell you. We can't even build a road anymore... Laskin completion delayed until at least 2025. No word on how this affects The Canopy, though I suspect it will have a significant impact since they delayed construction until the expected (already delayed) completion time of Spring 2024... https://www.13newsnow.com/article/news/local/mycity/virginia-beach/laskin-road-project-delayed-2025-virginia-beach-hilltop/291-a6ce404f-1696-4ad5-b85c-fec5a8291dd5?fbclid=IwAR1CacCF0HXuzUiDsaPI356gxjSFmEEmIuZK-YgVf6SUa3_be_y9WlYu6wA

I don't know if it's just my phone display but I am not liking the new forum layout and display. Looks less clean and kinda wonky. Actually, seems to just be my phone. Doesn't look like this on my iPhone. On android it looks like a cluttered mess. Anyone else having issues?

    Waterside Tower

I got sooo excited when I saw a new post in this thread.
  5. Miraculously, it appears that this project is still alive. Leasing activity began in September, and was most recently updated January 11th. https://www.crexi.com/lease/properties/699017/virginia-698-st-pauls-blvd
  6. Sounds like the Pamunkey, AGAIN, tried to submit some bs and the city, AGAIN, said no. Good on the city for holding them to the requirements of the referendum, but I'm becoming less and less confident that this casino will happen at all...
  7. I think we talked about this in another thread. I'll have to see if I can find it later.
  8. Another study… https://www.pilotonline.com/2024/01/11/virginia-beach-proposes-study-of-covention-center-development-other-sites-in-oceanfront-area/ “ A proposal to build a convention center hotel, apartments and shops on city-owned land along 19th Street warrants further study, particularly of costs the city would incur, say some City Council members. At last week’s council meeting, Mayor Bobby Dyer and others asked for an economic impact study and infrastructure cost analysis of not only Capstone Development’s proposed convention center hotel project, but also of several other core sites in the Oceanfront resort area, including the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art property and 17th Street. The study will likely cost about $200,000, according to City Manager Patrick Duhaney. On Tuesday, the City Council will vote on authorizing the analysis after hearing public comment. If approved, the study would be the seventh in two decades to examine the idea of a hotel development at the Virginia Beach Convention Center. Six studies over the past 19 years all concluded the convention center needs a headquarters hotel and a bigger, mixed-used project that can go along with it, according to the city.” These folks just can’t get anything done. Just make a d@mn decision already! This is beyond maddening…
  9. I’ll let this stand for now, but for future reference link only posts are not allowed. Please be sure to post a short description or excerpt from the link next time.
  10. Third terminal is still planned.

It appears that the reporter is confusing a decline in share of population, with an overall population decline, which is incorrect. Hampton Roads was stagnant, but registered no actual population decline in the final years of the report. Additionally, Virginia is indeed growing at exactly the same rate as the United States as a whole. Nothing to write home about, but again, not a decline. Accuracy matters in reporting, and they should clarify or issue a correction.
  12. There are some new renderings in the design review packet. Nothing much has changed with the design.
  13. I think some barbed wire and tank traps will spruce Granby right up don't you?
  14. I'm not exceptionally read up on the details of this controversy, other than the people in that neighborhood clearly don't want that brewery there, but threatening the city BEFORE they've voted on your permit typically is not the way to go. I'll be very surprised if this gets approved. Sounds like the owner/spokesman can be a bit of an @ss... https://www.wavy.com/news/armed-forces-brewing-company-attorney-challenges-legality-for-denial-of-conditional-permits-in-norfolk/

We've always had that attention. "Home of the Atlantic Fleet". The Soviets had more than a few nukes with our name on them back during the Cold War. Russia probably still does today.
  16. Yes, they've seen the site. No, they're not purposely tiptoeing around suggestions. They're not going to make decisions based on what a handful of people say on a website. We are but a minority in a sea of voices in this region, and many of us (myself included) are not Norfolk residents and therefore are not constituents and have no official say in the process. I firmly believe that they feel they're making the right choices in the governance of this city, but that's not going to stop me from calling for new blood on city council. All we can do is express opinions, just like anyone else, and hope that at least one of our suggestions is taken to heart. I was very pleased with how they decided to hold the Pamunkey's feet to the fire and made them adhere to the original agreement. That was new, and I believe that was due to, in large part, some of the criticism they received for past decisions.
  17. These people are STILL crying about this tower... It's over, move on. https://www.13newsnow.com/article/news/local/mycity/virginia-beach/opposition-grows-as-westminster-canterburys-22-story-tower-gets-approval/291-b82899c5-0f10-4741-af12-d7361662ac70 "VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A company that manages a senior living community in Virginia Beach is moving forward with a new 22-story tower on Shore Drive. Tuesday night, Virginia Beach City Council voted 9-1 to approve Westminster-Canterbury's request to move the public beach access point." "Now, neighbors are voicing some of the same concerns they had three years ago. Residents told 13News Now the proposed building will just be too tall in comparison to the surrounding area. It would be the third-tallest building in Virginia Beach. But their concerns don't stop there. They fear the building will increase traffic and reduce the value of their homes. "
  18. Of course delayed for another "study"... I don't even have the energy to discuss this now, just completely uninterested. I'm not paying any further attention to anything they say until piles are being driven into the ground. Rudderless, helpless, hopeless, feckless, such is Norfolk City Council. I'm done.
  19. Land clearing and site work has begun.
  20. There's a Richmond thread where it seems like the casino developer said some exceptionally objectionable stuff about the local population in a live interview that seems to have sealed it's fate. Too bad, because the proposal itself was quite stunning, and something that I would love to have here instead of whatever it is the Pamunkey think they're building.
  21. Obviously the voters in Richmond, for whatever reason, do not want a casino. Perhaps it’s time for local politicians there to move on. This does benefit us here locally though IF Headwaters ever gets off the ground.
  22. What am I missing here? The city specifically, and CLEARLY, stated that the developers were NOT allowed to build in phases, yet they ignore that guidance and submit a phased development plan anyway? This thing is DOA. I'm done
  23. Here we go...The people in this city are unbelievable. https://www.pilotonline.com/2023/10/11/letters-for-oct-12-virginia-beach-doesnt-need-a-hotel-across-the-street-from-the-convention-center/ "Virginia Beach Mayor Bobby Dyer should not waste our time and money on a hotel across the street from the Virginia Beach Convention Center. We already have a rather large hotel not far away. Building a new hotel will only take away occupancy from existing hotels. I read recently that the era of big conventions has passed, and we will be wasting our money, similar to what we did when we tore down the Virginia Beach Pavilion and replaced it with the costly convention center. The city is probably going to have enough expenses trying to make Pharrell Williams happy with his grand plans"
  24. It is, but I feel like Chesapeake doesn't listen to their NIMBYs as much as VA. Beach listens to theirs. They've pushed through several developments over objections, so I think this has a good chance of coming to fruition.
