  1. Perhaps the real answer is not being a nanny state with teen curfews, but addressing the root cause of the issue. Likely that is nothing for teens to do in Greenville. I grew up in this area (not Greenville itself) and it was very difficult to find something to do. If teens had a place to go this might curb the issue as well. Note that I do not know the offerings out there today. In general I don't think that curfews are something that the government should be involved, the parents should.
  2. My wife works downtown and sent me this (after seeing a part of the body from her office) Downtown suicide
  3. Is it the Embassy Suites off of Verdae? I think maybe at one time it was but not so sure about these days. I think pink was Embassy's "color of choice" for a while.
  4. For some reason I was thinking it was Belk's and not Penny's
  5. More info/rumours abound http://www.autoblog.com/2008/03/26/u-s-vol...-parts-locally/ But it does say "VW's head of production, Jochem Heizmann, has said that the requirements for a factory are that: it not be in a hurricane zone, it be near a major airport, and that there be "no other production car in the vicinity" -- or at least, Google Translate said that for him." So I'm not sure what that means in term of BMW, obviosly the author of the article is not aware of the BMW plant being in SC.
  6. I don't know who Fritzi Barbour is but I need to find out. I too could use a 22000 square foot home for only $182,500
  7. Which was the way I read it as well. Sorry if my posting sounded differently. The part I was most interested in and was not aware of before was that VW was building 3 different plants. This could account for the rumblings of Rocky Mount, NC that seem to keep popping up.
  8. AutoBlog seems to be implying that VW is building 3 plants in North America. Look at how South Carolina is a strikethrough right now.
  9. Just saw 2 articles in the autoblog feed Audi has no plans for a US plant BUT VW is looking at anderson but Rocky Mount, NC is the preferred location
  10. I think the city/county/state should focus on fixing the existing roads before they consider any "improvements". Potholes are everywhere in Taylors and yet nothing is being done to fix them. In my neighborhood the streets are cracked and in desperate need of paving, but I've heard nothing about it. All over Greenville, and any traveling within the state the roads appear to be in poor condition. IIRC there was an article no more than a year ago about the horrendous conditions of SC roads, and that truckers were doing what they could to avoid the state because of that. Not exactly a great way to lure industries to SC - particularly manufacturing, and/or white collar either with the poor conditions.
  11. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure they used to be in the mill that was torn down for Cherrydale. In addition they had a "true" outlet store in the old strip mall that was beside the Wal-Mart in Taylors. That strip mall was torn down as well so thta Wal-Mart could be expanded and a new strip mall went in.
  12. My wife had been a memeber of Ladies' Choice for a long time. After she had quit going there (now she goes to Pivotal Fitness when she's up to it - being pregnant she doesn't go much), she ran into someone that used to work at the front desk. It almost sounded like Ladies' Choice was mobbed up. Some bad bad stuff going on, or so she was told by the former employee.
  13. Thanks, Any truth to the part about "R15 makes it easier to change the zoning in the future"?
  14. Correct. (Galloway property on behalf of Cartee). What I am really trying to understand is the full implications of it as it does share a property line with me. One of my neighbours says she was told by someone at the zoning board that going go R15 would make it easier to do further development - perhaps even commercial at a later date. What I beleive is that in order to do anything commerical and or multi family they would have to do another zoning hearing that would be more worth the fight. I'm not necessarily opposed to the horses if that's what is truly being rezoned for I just don't want any surprises.
  15. Anyone know much about zoning and how it works in Greenville County that is willing to spend a few minutes educating me? I found out yesterday that the property adjacent to mine is up for rezoning to R-15. As I understand it, that can mean horses, manufactured homes, or be parceled out into multiple lots for residential development. I know that the request is up to the planning commission on 8/20. I'm trying to use the PDF http://www.greenvilleplanning.com/regulati...005-18-2007.pdf to understand exactly what all R-15 allows for but Table 6.1 makes no sense to me
  16. My wife uses the Spa @ West End somewhat frequently. OF the ones she's been to in the area it seems to be her favorite.

    The West End

Do you mean Pita House? the one on 291 across from Greenville Tech If so I've never had any issues there and I've been there LOTS (but then I call it Middle Eastern not Persian)- the food and the owners have always been great. That would be sad to hear if it was them - but I have to doubt it was.
  18. I just got info that Barack Obama is coming to Greenville this Friday What: Upstate Rally with Barack Obama Where: McAlister Square, Main Entrance, 225 Pleasantburg Drive, Greenville, SC When: Friday, June 15 @ 12:30 PM Tix are required you might can find some info on Barack's site
  19. We went to eat lunch on Saturday. We got there around 1 and the line was out the door for both "lunch" and pastries. There was a large crowd. As usual the food was phenomenal. The souvlaki line pretty much filled up the whole parking lot when I was there. That's an outdoor stand that i was near while I was getting some loukemmades (sp?). MMMM, loukemaddes
  20. Blabbermouth.net is reporting that Ratt & Poison are kicking off their summer tour 6/13 at the Bi-Lo Center. Not as big probably as an Elton John show but definitely more rock (and uh more hair even these days). \m/ Poison has been to the BiLo Center quite a few times - and my wife is a big fan (ugh) so I usually end up going along. They put on a decent show.
  21. I wont' say it's not a big show - but a big "ROCK" show. Not even. a big "Pop" show perhaps. All I'll say is that the Heaven & Hell tour is selling out everywhere - they have no southeast dates that would have been a HUGE deal. but for me at least this is just meh - the Bilo Center letting me down again.
  22. Actually FireFox has a built in spell checker starting w/version 2 I think.
  23. As far as Greek restaurants there's also Olympia (on Congaree I believe), Mythos (29 in Greer) and the ever popular (read always crowded) Olive Tree on 291 near Steak & Ale. I think Olive Tree also has a location on Mauldin Rd. You'd think with the lines the Greek Festival gets for meals some other folks would take a hint and step up. I think the Greek Festival should be every other week just for the food.
  24. VH w/DLR is a no go as of last week. Even the "Greatest Hits" collection from the early years has been "delayed" again. Megadeth is Metal \m/ but like I said it's wishful thinking on my part. I remember seeing them long ago at Character's The Police is probably a good guess.
  25. I'll throw out the Heaven & Hell tour. Heaven & Hell is essentially Black Sabbath with Ronnie James Dio back on vocals - I believe the only exception is that Bill Ward is not w/them thus not the Black Sabbath moniker. Openers scheduled for the Candian leg are Megadeth and Down (Phil Anselmo formerly of Pantera). Of course all that's probably just wishful thinking - but it's the only "big" tour I can think of happening in rock for May. Perhaps it's Megadeth kicking off a headlining tour? They have a new album due out. Otherwise I've got nothing. Sadly for me it's probably some more of that fine, fine, fine new "rock" (can you tell I'm a big fan) that I don't keep up with so wouldn't have a clue.
