  1. Can I quote you on that? My advice: relax.
  2. Ellwood's & Fresh Market really don't have that much overlap in products. Ellwood's tends to have local and organic foods. Fresh Market has some organic goods, but most of their stuff tends more towards high-end natural foods (and, yes, there's a significant difference between "natural" and "organic"). Whole Foods, on the other hand, will be in direct competition. I suspect that's why Ellwood's is playing up the local connections (as they should).
  3. Underground tanks get replaced all the time. That's perhaps the worst argument against moving away from oil I've ever heard. Companies will sell whatever makes them money. Today it's oil; tomorrow, it could be hydrogen or deionized water or used cooking grease. Besides, I thought you were the big Republican? Any good Republican knows that there's no reason for government interference in such matters. I honestly don't get what your point here is (maybe it's because I didn't go to Henrico County schools?). Do you really think reducing our dependence on oil, most of which is controlled by entities who are either borderline or outright hostile towards the US, will leave "your" country in worse shape? I'm not ComRE, but when you call people stupid for not agreeing with you, don't be surprised when people bite back, especially when you make yourself such an easy target.
  4. We get it at work and I read some of it most days. That doesn't mean I pay for it or think it's a good paper.
  5. No surprise here. I worked for them (they were then First Union Securities) back when they bought Everen Securities, and it was only through last-minute lobbying that the whole operation didn't up and move to Chicago. I understand a move to NYC was seriously considered during the Prudential merger as well. The Richmond 'loyalty' died with James Wheat.
  6. Maldini's makes a good pie. It's part of the Piccola/Mary Angela's family, so expect a similar product. Another new place is due from them soon at Sheppard & Park, which will be great for that little retail stretch.

    Richmond Sports

Call me a NIMBY, but I'd rather my elected officials not commit to spending my tax dollars behind closed doors.
  8. Right now, John Rolfe Parkway only exists between Lauderdale Dr and Ridgefield Parkway.
  9. I'd welcome it, so long as it's a better piece than the Ashe statue. I just don't look forward to the SCV (et al)'s inevitable beotching and moaning...

    Retail in Richmond

    Not according to the article.
  11. I eat breakfast there frequently on the weekends. And, apparently, so does most of the Forest Hill corridor. The couple who owned Karen's Diner sold that business to another family member and opened Paradise, bringing a fair number of staff and patrons with them.
  12. And you've spent how much time around the Plant Zero folks?
  13. Hey, it's where I'd send my kids (if I had any) to school. Assuming I could afford it, that is. (and no, I don't work there)
  14. BK Music is right across Midlo from Cloverleaf Mall. Used to be a Peaches way back when. Mall stores like FYE are a waste. Prices are even more expensive and selection is limited to only the most popular items. If you can't find it at Plan 9, order it online from Amazon, Insound, etc.
  15. Here in Richmond, there's a small cottage industry of wine & beer shops opening in the same center as (or very close by) Ukrops stores. I suspected someone would open one up at Ivy Market. Has anyone actually been in Wine Gourmet? Roanoke's severely lacking in quality beer merchants and it would be great if they were able to fill that niche somewhat.
  16. I cross via Chippenham at least twice daily, and most of the time it's not very crowded at all. It's puzzling to me, as Huguenot can be at a dead crawl while traffic flies down the Willey. I realize it might not be the preferred route, but if a few folks shifted their routes a bit west, their commutes would be easier.
  17. The much-discussed episode of "Throwdown with Bobby Flay" featuring Buz Grossberg debuts May 31 at 10PM, with frequent repeats in June.
  18. Yeah, the Thai chicken noodle is pretty good. I still think the lobster bisque is the best, but the mushroom (only occasionally served as a special, not a regular menu item) is great too.
  19. I'd rather not just yet, 'til we hear whether a couple of important details are indeed true. The last thing I want to do is spread untrue details about this.
  20. Yes. If the word on the street turns out to be true, it was quite an unfortunate turn of events.
  21. India K'Raja is OK, but that's about it. I much prefer Royal India and Malabar. Shish Kabob, which is tucked in behind Fuddruckers at Broad/Parham, is a quite good Pakistani place (and perhaps the only one in town).
  22. Yeah, I think the Nolde response wasn't quite what they anticipated. They were still all for-sale units when I toured the place (and wasn't terribly impressed with the units themselves).
  23. Jon Sarvay has some interesting stuff about Kitchen 64, Northside Grille and the changing face of Northside restaurants.
  24. Weird- it wasn't too long ago that he went there. Between the disaster that was Duro, the shelved burger place and now this, I'm beginning to wonder if he's got some personal issues going on.
