Has anyone ever pondered the thought that maybe there was never any consideration to move the facility outside of Fayetteville and that maybe this was just a way to get the parking situation taken care of on Dickson for the center? I mean, it worked and it's really not a bad idea.

Hmmm, seems a little generic to me...

In other new, SWEPCO began erecting the new utility poles on Dickson today. They are as obtrusvie and ugly as was expected. I honestly felt a little sick when I saw it...

I hope everyone realizes that the state would have more money for these kind of projects if our current administration wasn't spending hundreds of billions of dollars on the war in Iraq! Don't blame it on the city wanting the medians. We need the medians as well as the bike lanes, blame it on the national level and for God's sake vote accordingly in '08!!!! Don't be stupid!

OR, (crazy idea, I know), you could take that money that it would have taken to build a huge cross and give it to people who are STARVING! I dunno, just seems like something Jesus would have done...

I HATE the speedtables. They're so ugly and clumsy looking, roundabouts and the circles they've installed around wilson park are much more appealing, both aesthetically and practically.

So am I crazy or did we not just pay Dover-Khol to map out a general plan for 2025? We sure aren't taking it too seriously from the looks of this confusing and most definitely NOT pedestrian-friendly approach to making north Fayetteville more "accessible." For a forward-thinking town, our plans for this future network of roads is eerily similar to, oh, every other suburban area in America with its impossibly wide highways and intricate intersections that are just begging motorists to get into accidents. Why not actually consider the idea of turning both College and Fulbright into large, wide boulevards where pedestrians can walk the outside and high-speed traffic moves down the center, while slower lanes of traffic service businesses. Sound far-fetched? Check out the Champs Elysees in Paris, it's exactly what Dover Khol was alluding to. And by the way, the fact that they referenced a survey asking people whether or not they would use alternative transportation in that area was very dissapointing seeing that those surveyed had probably NEVER considered or were aware of the better alterntives. I thought that the charettes put forth actually meant something, being attended by citizens of Fayetteville who actually gave a damn about what the city would grow into.

Lindsey is def. bad, but the bottom of the pit would have to be Mansfield. I don't understand why Fayetteville has so many horrible management companies. Given it is a college town, I wonder if the city could do anything besides deny their next projects!

This is a question that has been getting under my skin for a good time now. Does anyone know if Jim Lindsey has an archtiect? First off, if he does, the architect should be fired. Secondly, if he does, how could he even call himself an architect. I've heard rumors that he does have one and he is a good ol' boy from the Delta (explaining alot). Third, if he doesn't have an architect what in the hell is wrong with him. I have had enough of driving around NWA and seeing the same building multiplied a thousand times in a different location. I recently heard he is placing another one of his developments out on Rupple Rd. here in Fayetteville. So much for that being a nice boulevard. And don't even get started on his headquarters, besides it being six stories tall it has nothing going for it ( besides some excellent landscaping). I realize it's cheaper but does anyone else see a probelm with what Jim Lindsey is forcing us to swallow every time he plans another development. I just had an epiphany that his apartments are really bad. If he could simply change the design one time it would make me giddy as a school girl. Wish in one hand and sh*t in the other I guess but this is getting ridiculous. How many times is he going to do this before we have whole areas of town covered in these monstrosities?

For once I think those are actually worth it. The views are amazing and the location is second to none. Very nicely done as well. I don't think he will have a hard time selling these.

Just a little note to add. I was in Seaside FL this last week and noticed that one of the squares is named Ruskin square as well as one of the major streets in town. Seaside is amazing. You will not find a home in that town worth under 1 mill. If the project in Fayetteville is 1/10th of what they have down there this will be a major success. These are practically the inventors of New Urbanism. I am really suprised this has not gotten more attention from either the media or just local gossip. What about Pinnacle air in Rogers. Do they not offer private commercial flights. I could understand a company like that benefitting from a location at Drake. Those wishing to just fly in and out of Fayetteville.

An article in todays paper said the work will begin once the city of Fayetteville pays the extra funds. They gave the rise in construction costs as their reason. The city said they would do this if the state helps pay for Township upgrades after the widening of Gregg. Apparently, this all happened in Rogers not to long ago as well.

Also, I don't know if anyone has driven by 540 and 62 but the new Lindsey project is going up in front of their horrible Southern View.( It's actually a nice complex, It is horrible in that it looks like the thousands of other apartments he has done). This however has been promised to the city to have it's own look. There will be a collection of three story buildings with retail on the first floors and residences on the top. I hope it turns out nicely.

Biobased fules is about to start construction on their new headquarters off of Cato in South Fayetteville. The design is yet another green building and is two floors at 60,000 sq ft.. Though I do not have a picture it is a very cool building sort of going with the theme on that part of town. Very sharp looking. They said they will be bringing with them 60-80 employees at the new location. This was all in a new magazine called High Rise Fayetteville. I know there are not that many but still more than most in the area. Most of the talking was done by AMA and the Barbers but it enveloped all projects in Fayetteville with colored renderings and everything else you need to know. I would like to know if this was a one time deal or an actuall new magazine. I'll stop by the chamber to see if it was their doing.

Ok, found out some more info. It is that land right across from the nursery. The name is Ruskin Heights. It is a new urbanism community with churches fountains and all kinds of interesting features. They highlight the development is being developed around the pedestrian and not the automobile. It is the hill off to the side of crossover. They look to have quite a bit of land and the land is bordered by the Park Place subdivision to the east as well as Mount Sequoyah to the south. It is still in development phase, but just as the downtown master plan it will have input from the entire city of Fayetteville. They have a design studio set up at Scarpinos off of Dickson. Many of the communities they mentioned this being similar to was Hyland Park, TX and Telegraph Hill in San Francisco. Sounds like a really neat development and oddly enough this would be considered as infill, so more power to them.

I was wondering what they were going to do with that land. Thanks for the info. I know there is a brochure floating around somewhere. I'll try to upload some of it on here. With all these developments Fayetteville building permit values are going to be sky high. Fayetteville is truly becoming the urban center of NWA.

No, atleast I hope not. I heard this was closer into town. Closer to dowtown from 265. This project is supposed to be really classy, and being done by some of the people behind Keep Fayetteville Funky.

Has anyone heard of the new development on mission in Fayetteville? From the rumors I heard it is supposed to be a massive community within a community. Sort of like a Seaside FL in Fayetteville AR? The whole thing with city squares and a real pedestrian community feel. I recall the name Ruscan square? There was a brochure at the new school in Fayetteville. If anybody has any info this sounds like a very interesting development.

Oddly enough, looks like Fayetteville and Rogers are growing almost exactly at the same rate. Rogers census came and they added about 10,000, Fayetteville added 9,000. Looks like Springdale, with their new minor league stadium is going to be the largest in the metro. We all knew that, I was just suprised to see Rogers growth rate more on par with Fayetteville and not closer to Springdale

Thats what I was told was in the plan. Like most, I have yet to read every page of the plan. I'm going on gossip, but with someone who knows the plan better than I do. If it's not it should be, If they are really looking for a true entertainment experience thats what it takes.

Why can Dickson St. not close. Beale St., Bourbon and hundreds of other major streets across the nation are blocked off to automobiles all the time. How would "college kids" interfer with this? Anyways I thought this was all in the Downtown Master Plan. Hell Huckabee will be gone soon. I seriously doubt Asa is even going to be given an opportunity to have a say in this.

It would work fine if they enact the downtown master plan and establish Dickson St as an entertainment district. The street would close around 8 and then the shops might be able to spill over into the road a little. It will be wonderful to walk down Dickson without all the crazy cars driving down it. It would also allow you to walk around the street with an alcholic beverage in hand. The grocery store in Evelyn Hills?

The Barber group would knock it down. I like how Greg House in his explanation of the changes constantly repeated the fact that they were not putting a 15 story building there. As if to make the changes sound less intrusive. Personally, I would have loved to see the AMA group pick this property up. They seem to have the intelligence and proper funding sources to pull all these historic tombstones back to their original glory, while still maintaining economic feasabilitly
