  1. I thought this would fit well in the Arkansas forum because there are so many forumers from different areas of the state. The pictures could be from a modern metro like Little Rock, a small town in north Arkansas, or a town in south Arkansas. So post your favorite picture/pictures of Arkansas! I'll start it of with a picture that I really like; ^This was taken by a friend of mine, he is living in Hardy, Arkansas.
  2. ^Great Piccs, sial and serhio 79!
  3. I know I'm a bit late on this, but you did a great job, ironchapman! The profile was very resourceful. How long did it take you to get the whole thing put together?

    London Projects Thread

Yea, those buildings look great! I hope the skyscrapers dont draw London away from its historic buildings and areas. But, cities like New York, New Orleans, Boston, and Philadelphia all have skyscrapers and manage to keep their historic structures. Congrats London!
  5. ^^Great Shots! The Aquarium looks nice, it looks similar to the Aquarium of the Americas in New Orleans. I think the top of the BOA Plaza is beautiful, hell the whole building looks great IMO. Here's a picture I really like, I love the sprawl of Atlanta's skyline(this may have been posted before in this thread) Here's a cool site I found showing ATL's sprawl ^^this looks great if you have a good graphics card on your computer!

    Welcome

Yea, I can see that some of the Alabama forumer's werent to welcome to the Mississippi events you posted there But youre certainly welcome to post any MS news over here! I love hearing about whats happening in Mississippi, especially in Jackson and along the coast. Please tell any Mississippi forumers that you see on UrbanPlanet(there are a few) that they are welcome to post MS news in the LA forum. Im sure that will also help create more of a demand for a Mississippi subforum.
  7. I've always liked Jackson. I go up there every few months just to see the area and see what is going on. I always have a great time. Im glad to hear that there is new development going on there.

    Welcome

Well, would you should do is post a poll in the Southern USA section, and ask "should there be a MS forum" or "Would you contribute to a MS forum?" Anyting that could help show the interest level. That is what I did for the Louisiana forum, and a few days later there was a good interest level, and enough replies to make the moderators try it. It seems to be working out well now, so I would definately try that with the MS forum. I would certainly contribute, there is alot going on on the coast, and Jackson seems to be having plenty of new developments as well. I would love to here more about what is going on in Mississippi.
  9. I saw something about that when I was up in Jackson for the Black & Gold Scrimmage. It looks like a very nice building. Thanks for posting tombarnes, Its nice to hear about development in Jackson.
  10. It is supposed to be in the CBD overlooking the Mississippi River on River Road. Right inbetween the State Capital building and the rest of the downtown area. Im sure it will look great!
  11. It was just approved a few weeks ago, construction is supposed to start very soon though. Official Site
  12. Great point Rural King, I dont know why I forgot Morgan City. It is truly a great place. Like you said the heavy accent it there and the cajun food is GREAT, and VERY spicy. Avery Island is where Tobasco Sauce is made, and the cajuns love to add that in with all their spices and peppers when they are making their food. I suggest that anyone planning to take a trip through Louisiana or anyone who will be taking I-10 through Louisiana, to stop in any of the cities in cajun country, get something to eat, talk to the people, and see how rich that area is in history and culture. Believe me....You wont regret it!
  13. Baton Rouge still has a small cajun side to it, there is some cajun food there and some cajun people living there, but there is not much cajun to it at all. It has always been that way, most people seem to associate Baton Rouge with "Cajun Country"...but it has never been that way. There isnt much french in Baton Rouge anymore. New Orleans has moved away from french architecture and style in most of its buildings, but there is still the French Quarter and some of the older buildings in the city. Baton Rouge doesnt have a French Quarter, or anything like that. They have old plantation houses that have french/southern architecture to them, but that is about it. There are still cities in LA that have a cajun flavor to them. Most of them are in Cajun Country. Lafayette(population 111,000, and most of them are cajun or have a cajun heritage) Lafayette still has a considerable amount of french architecture and french heritage to it. New Iberia, many people consider New Iberia to be the heart of cajun country, that is where most of the cajun festivals are held. Breaux Bridge...it only has about 8,000 people, but it is definitely a cajun city, there are many cajun festivals here as well.
  14. Glad you liked the pictures, Rural King. Monroe is an interesting city, IMO. The buildings have that "old-original" styling that I really like. That is also the same for Alexandria,LA. But I couldnt get any pics of Alexandria's skyline. Lake Charles has their "new" downtown area, and they still have most of the original downtown left. The tall building in the Lake Charles pic is the tallest building between Baton Rouge and Houston. It, along with many of the other buildings in the new downtown area didnt go up until the casino's started popping up throughout Lake Charles in the 80's. Lots of people from East Texas and the Houston area go to Lake Charles to gamble, so a big chunk of the money in the L.C. enonomy comes from the Texans, the rest is oil and chemical production.
  15. Here are some pictures of the skyline's of six Louisiana cities. Please post any pics that you have of any of the skylines...Enjoy:) Lake Charles Skyline Shreveport Skyline Bossier City Skyline Shrevepor-Bossier City Skyline Monroe Skyline Baton Rouge Skyline New Orleans Skyline
  16. I think it will stand out, in a good way. If you took away the LA state capital from B.R. it would just have two "high-rise" buildings. Im glad they have a new real high-rise building approved for construction.
  17. Many people dont know much about Baton Rouge, as it is often overshadowed by New Orleans, so I thought I would make a profle of the city..I might make profiles for Shreveport and Lafayette as well. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Baton Rouge,Louisiana Founded-1699 POPULATION City Population(2002 estimate)- 225,702 Metropolitan Area Population-728,731 CMSA Population-751,965 PORT of GREATER BATON ROUGE The Port of Greater Baton Rouge is 80 miles upriver from the Port of New Orleans and is part of the Gulf Intercoastal Waterway. The port is growing in terms of tonnage, and now it ranks 10th in the country in total tonnage. It is well known for its productivity and the handling of cargo. It is also one of the busiest inland-ports in the country. The port's growth plays a MAJOR role in the growth of the Baton Rouge area. HISTORY Baton Rouge, meaning "red stick" in French, was named after French-Canadians saw the sticks marking the land of local Houma Indian tribes when the city was founded. The sticks were bloody and had been used for hunting. And so, "Baton Rouge" was born. Baton Rouge was a small town through the Spanish and French colonial periods, but after the Louisiana Purchase it started to grow rapidly. The state capital was moved from New Orleans to Baton Rouge in 1849. Then it was moved back to New Orleans during the Civil War, and then returned to Baton Rouge in 1882. The old state capital building(you could call it a castle really) was used as the capital building up until 1932 when the new state capital building was completed. It is still referred to as the "new state capital building" today by many people, even though it is over 73 years old. Old State Capital Building/Castle it originally had structures similar to turrets on top of the towers, but they were removed "New" State Capital Building BATON ROUGE TODAY Today Baton Rouge is growing, and is seeing new high-rise developments. Just like New Orleans, there are new plans for condos to go up in the city. And as the port continues to grow, so will Baton Rouge, or at least it is projected to. This is a picture of "RiverPlace Condominiums" it will be 36 stories tall and will overlook the Mississippi River from downtown Baton Rouge. It has already been approved and construction should start even sooner then originally planned, due to the high demand for many of the condos.

    Welcome

Thanks alot guys...I'm sure I can bring more people to come over and post from New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Shreveport, and throughout Louisiana.
  20. Well i guess the im closest to the Texarkana metro....even though im 300 miles away from there
  21. Thanks alot arkansas bluff...i dont know much about north arkansas so i will definately be asking some things about that area....
  22. Thanks for the hospitality guys...i'll just be your eyes and ears in Louisiana. Thanks for the map Mith im not to familier with north-east Arkansas. I do have some more news about I-49 in Shreveport, construction is supposed to start very quickly and they are bringing in construction workers from the Baton Rouge and Lafayette areas, so I-49 from Shreveport to Arkansas should be completed soon.
  23. Well i dont live in Arkansas, i actually live in Covington,LA (pop. around 10,000) in the New Orleans metro area, but i own 84 acres of land in foreman,AR and have family there. I am up in Arkansas every chance i get, i love it up there. I think many cities in arkansas and the state itself is overlooked to often, it really is beautiful up there. I really think Little Rock is an under-rated city, the first time i was there i was suprised to see such a nice skyline on a city with 180,000+ people and that the area was so nice, it puts parts of Baton Rouge to shame. I'll probably be posting alot on this forum(that is if you guys dont mind..) because I would like to know what is hapening in the different areas of AR, and there isnt (and i dont expect their ever will be) a Louisiana forum..it seems im the only one on this whole site from Louisiana. LOL Well best of luck to a great forum..
  24. 1.Mobile...Miami, the gulf coast of Mississippi, and now New Orleans are home to many cruise ships...IMO Mobile is next on the list..and tourism can bring alot of growth to a city 2. Birmingham... great city with plenty of things to do, almost 1.1 million in metro and it continues to grow..and if the buildings that blazer85 is describing are built, it will only add to the beauty. ^^Alabama has a VERY bright future ahead of them... Baton Rouge.... it has city population is about 225,000(growing slowly) and the metro is around 750,000(growth has gone up) and the port is growing in tonnage of goods every year and unlike New Orleans, Baton Rouge is not below see level or surrounded by water, allowing for easier development of land. There are now plans to build a 35-45 story condo tower and a 30-40 story office tower in downtown. and a 32 story mixed use tower has already been approved. BR is often overshadowed by New Orleans, but it really is a beautiful city(in most areas) and the history of the entire area is great. i would also say Knoxville...very beautiful city and seems to be growing rapidly. Little Rock...not much about Little Rock on this forum..but it is a very nice city and seems to be growing at a steady pace
