  1. Thanks to Toyota, two separate companies investing in EV jobs in the Triad (Davidson County and Burlington) If this keeps up North Carolina and the Triad in particular could become a major U.S. hub in EV associated production. We knew that Toyota would attract suppliers to the area. https://www.bizjournals.com/triad/news/2023/11/27/matthews-industries-pittsburgh-burlington-nc-ev.html https://www.bizjournals.com/triad/news/2023/11/28/japanese-manufacturer-ev-factory-lithium-battery.html
  2. I do know they were talking about a potential food hall at the other depot. I've always thought it would be a cool place for a blues club/bar. If there weren't so many breweries nearby, that would be a cool use for it as well. But whatever the use, it needs to be something different. Not the typical bar or restaurant.
  3. Redevelopment of Greensboro's first train depot from 1899 is in the works. No word yet on what it will be transformed into. But I hope they restore it to its original architecture. https://1899depot.com/ The depot before changes over the decades were made. Greensboro is lucky to have both historic train depots standing downtown. The newer and larger depot which was built in 1926 is the Amtrak station which is a part of the multi modal transportation hub.
  4. Renderings of the Crown Events Center for downtown Fayetteville. It will include a main event hall that can fit 3,000 attendees, more meeting and event space on the first floor and VIP spaces on the second floor. Its basically a theater and convention center all under one roof and will host concerts and even Broadway productions. Rendering of a planned 7 story hotel in downtown Fayetteville Stadium View Apartments will be built on top on an existing deck by the ballpark making it the tallest in downtown Fayetteville.
  5. Greensboro based Arch Mortgage Insurance aquires fortune 500 company RMIC Companies. https://www.bizjournals.com/triad/news/2023/11/14/arch-mortgage-insurance-old-republic-international.html
  6. Driving down I-40, I noticed steel rising out of the ground on the TopGolf site where the main building is suppose to go. Looks like its officially under construction Here are the plans on a bidding site. Plans show a two level TopGolf. https://www.mechworksinc.com/topgolf-greensboro/ This is not the actual rendering below but based on the elevations in the architectural plans, this is the version they are building.
  7. Job growth in the area is leading to more housing in Greensboro. The site will be annexed into Greensboro. The final approved plan called for 314 single-family homes and 193 townhouses. https://www.bizjournals.com/triad/news/2023/11/08/dr-horton-brookhaven-mill-southeast-greensboro.html
  8. High Point has a unique opportunity as well with its gorgeous showrooms which gives a more modern look to its downtown than its two larger Triad siblings. Yes the showrooms have gobbled up a good portion of downtown but just imagine if these showrooms could somehow transform into mixed-use properties that work for the furniture market and downtown High Point year round. Then there are the development opportunities on other vacant properties. It speaks volumes that developers from Charlotte and Raleigh are now looking at downtown High Point for building projects. High Point's downtown is not only unique in North Carolina but its unique in the United States as well. There is no downtown in America like it and the city needs to use that uniqueness to its advantage.
  9. Photo tour of Downtown High Point ("North Carolina's International City") one thing that is unique about Guilford County is that it is the only county in North Carolina that has two cities with urban downtown cores. High Point's 2023 population is 115,347 Greensboro's 2023 population is 301,807 High Point
  10. Old AP store is being demolished at this moment.. for the Lofts at 110 MLK project
  11. Article hints that Toyota will make a major announcement next week "bigger and better " than previous announcements for the Greensboro-Liberty site. It appears to me that the announcement will likely be about Toyota building an electric automobile assembly plant adjacent to the battery plant. Toyota spokesmen have hinted that in the past when they made the announcement about the battery plant but the news could become official next week! Hundreds of people have already moved to the Greensboro area from other states to work at the Toyota plant and more could be on the way. Liberty will be seeing a development boom for new housing as well. https://www.wfmynews2.com/article/features/toyota-battery-plant-north-carolina-job-near-me-greensboro/83-120847ed-f4c8-49b5-a07b-db5b50e4df52
  12. Construction begins on 128 room downtown Sringhill Suites by Marriott in High Point. It will be within walking distance to Truist Point Stadium. Downtown High Point's first new hotel in decades. https://www.bizjournals.com/triad/news/2023/10/26/springhill-suites-marriott-downtown-high-point.html
  13. Zack Matheny gives another hint about some unannounced downtown projects. One of them is likely what the Ryan Companies has planned for the News and Record property but I can't wait for the announcement of the others. Could we finally see multiple skyline additions? $800 million is a lot so these are some very big projects. All the planned downtown development is probably a direct result of all the jobs announcements within the past year. "We have a lot to celebrate this year, including a staggering number of visits to downtown, new business openings and tremendous progress on several large transformational projects for the future" https://www.downtowngreensboro.org/articles/post/growth-momentum-and-robust-pipeline-take-center-stage-at-dgi-annual-celebration/
  14. Very impressive. I can't wait until the "exciting" things are revealed once they get permission from the developers. $800 million is a lot so there must be multiple big projects under development.
  15. I think once we get about 10,000 to 12,000 people living downtown, the center city will reach its "critical mass" for a lot of retail services downtown. That's when we start seeing stores such as urban Targets there. At that point downtown, which is a square mile would be the most densely populated area of the city.
  16. $800 million in the pipeline for downtown development projects some of which are unannounced. Also construction on Carroll's ballpark development with the AC Hotel will begin next year. https://www.bizjournals.com/triad/news/2023/10/20/downtown-greensboro-restaurants-housing-tourism.html
  17. The old AP store is about to be torn down at MLK Dr and South Elm Street. These 7 story lofts are supposed to be built in its place.
  18. Here is the rendering of the redeveloped office building which is an achor for the 73 acre mixed-use development called CrossPoint. The Greensboro Science Center is a mile north on Lawndale from the development and I-840 is two miles north. This is what we need to see more of in other areas of the city outside of downtown. More mixed-use infill urban development. Also brochure info on the development https://www.kourycorp.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/brookhollow-brochure-NEWEST-2.pdf
  19. Little bit of "retro" business news Came across this old News and Record article when Greensboro got its first Walmart some 33 years ago. At that time Kmart was king in Greensboro. https://greensboro.com/wal-mart-to-open-its-first-guilford-store/article_22204199-3afe-52ed-adde-7f5d80a2a79e.html
  20. More cool stills from the TLC show My Big Fat Fabulous Life. I can see my apartment!
  21. Noticed that the I-840 shield has finally been placed on the directional signs on I-85 westbound
  22. Downtown Greensboro's newest coffee shop Melrose Coffee Lounge at the corner of East Friendly and North Church Streets.
