  1. The elevated Starbucks was the only thing I noticed, but I'll try again to see what you see.
  2. I went to check out Waverly, etc. the other day. WOOF. That is the beige-iest mass of I don't know what. I didn't even bother with pictures. I really wanted to like it, but holy mayonnaise in a bucket.... They need to bring in some large trees, flowers, shrubbery, add some sort of roof features if not structured roofs themselves, gargoyles... something! Even awnings would help and nobody likes awnings. It's remarkably busy for so much nothingness out there. There are so many businesses advertised, but the layout and color scheme makes it look like a strip mall in a desert with a cul-de-sac a few feet behind it. Something needs to make it feel more connected besides that lack-of-color scheme. They most certainly did not achieve what they were going for. I couldn't get too close to Rea Farms, but It doesn't seem like it will be much better.
  3. I was there with Creative Mornings. https://creativemornings.com/cities/clt It doesn't usually meet there, but I still encourage anyone who's interested to check it out some time.
  4. I was just up there for a little shindig. Thought you guys would appreciate yet another perspective.
  5. I don't think I've seen this posted here yet. Charlotte ranks #1 on this list. The 10 Cities Where Tech Salaries Stretch The Farthest https://www.forbes.com/sites/laurensonnenberg/2017/10/17/the-10-cities-with-the-highest-tech-salaries/amp/
  6. I think that's for the sake of protecting unfinished work on the linear park.? It's nice and relatively unobtrusive in person. The area to walk is pretty wide. It was nice enough and wide enough for me to move to the side as one of our more hostile, less mentally healthy outdoor residents paused his yelling at "somebody" long enough to admire it and say "This is beautiful.....really nice". It's having a peaceful effect already!
  7. I hope it looks nice. For some reason, all I can imagine is pinwheels cut from soda cans or something incredibly bland. Side note: I have long wished they'd paint replicas or something resembling Romare Bearden's art on the Charlotte Chamber parking deck facing that park.
  8. Again, I get what you're saying. My point was that these people were doing these things because it IS their neighborhood. I understand why you feel the way you do, I grew up here and Uptown was always some "thing" that wasn't really habitable for decades, but it appears, at least to me and a few others, that it is and does feel like a neighborhood of sorts. My own neighborhood is inexplicably vibrant yet lacking something special, so maybe that's why I see uptown differently than you do. Eh... Whatever.
  9. I make it a point to drive through or around uptown whenever I return from somewhere.
  10. I like First Ward park. The exercise equipment is particularly fun after a night of drinking. I do wish they would turn the fountain lights on more.
  11. Or at least get a new cookie cutter. This was fun in 2007, but this design style quickly lost its appeal with me, and I'm one to think everything is great.
  12. I'm hoping whatever amount of success they achieve will lead to a local donut shop heading to the area. I do have to say I wish there was a Krispy Kreme in the Uptown/PM/Noda area. Does that still count as local? Either way they are leaps and bounds better.
  13. I don't know where you think you are or who you think this audience is, but this was highly inappropriate.
  14. I get what you're saying, but while out walking last night - just an ordinary Wednesday night - there were a lot of ordinary Charlotte people doing ordinary Charlotte things: Loads of kids on skateboards; dog walking en masse; a few neighborhood guys walking home with their girlfriends trying to sound smart so they could get laid; a respetable amount of people having dinner in every restaurant that was open; bars had nice sized, chill, weekday crowds; light rail stops were busy; families walking into apartment towers and the kids had light up toys from some event I'm assuming; people walking home with to-go dinners; groups of kids, older people, and other individuals like me sweating our faces off just for the sake of being out & about; and several people not looking where they were going because they knew where they were going..... There were a lot more people walking around uptown just hanging out, having a nice evening, and going about their business then there were in Plaza Midwood. I rode through on the way home specifically for the comparison (expecting it to be the other way around). Actually, if you don't have a real plan in mind, it's easier to just fart around uptown. The encapsulated bubble feel, smaller streets with slower traffic, and loads of parks, benches, and structures to sit on and do nothing but enjoy where you are make it much easier and more comfortable than say, sitting alone looking crazy on the corner of Davidson & 36th. It may not be hip and funky, but it's clear that Uptown is "home" if not just a nice place to hang out and kill time to a lot of people.
  15. This is what concerns me. There are a lot of things we don't yet handle well (how's that BLE coming?) and we're still, in a sense, "finding ourselves" as a city. I have yet to shake that bad feeling about Amazon coming here and this article perfectly encapsulates the reasons why. I'm sure we will reap some kind of benefits if it comes anywhere on the east coast. .....anywhere but here.
  16. Hmm....... you learn something new every day. Tell 'em to throw that in the proposal!
  17. I know this is not a stellar picture, but this is the sunken patio at Angeline's, and a bit of the inside. It looks pretty nice, but I would have liked a warmer/cozier feel. Whatever, I'm sure it will be great. The chef was in there getting ready and he looked like he meant business!
  18. That's hilarious. I don't play, but I walk the course at Reedy Creek. Great scenery and it looked sufficiently challenging, in my opinion.
  19. Here is the night view from a few spots around the 43rd floor. And yes, that rent is ridiculous I love Charlotte, but it's still Charlotte.
  20. Usually I'd be lamenting with you (see my previous hissyfits) but this really isn't a memorable or useful piece of green space.
