  1. Different angle of Lofts on Grove. It looks like the shell of the building is mostly complete and that they are beginning to start on cosmetic/interior. While driving up Plainfield today, I also noticed that 2156 Plainfield in Cheshire Village is for sale. It has been used as office space but it would be nice to see it converted back to retail or restaurant. https://workwithmoxie.com/brokerage/#/property/611a3ecb7596b70009799178
  2. American Seating to move headquarters to a different location in GR. Location has not yet been announced… https://www.crainsgrandrapids.com/news/real-estate/american-seating-co-leaving-legacy-headquarters-for-new-site-in-grand-rapids/?utm_medium=social&utm_source=linkedin&utm_term=grand+rapids+business+journal&utm_content=53f18324-407e-44fa-8c32-40ea1dc72927
  3. Not really exciting, but since it’s been a slow news day: I think the catholic diocese is leasing a portion of the former Sun Title space run a “toddler and baby pantry”. By the way they repainted the old Sun Title space, it looks like they are breaking it up into multiple tenant spaces.
  4. You could be on to something… “With (Corewell Health’s) development to the south and the direction of that neighborhood, the buyer has plans at some point in the future to sort of reimagine how those surface lots are utilized that were part of sale,” https://mibiz.com/sections/real-estate-development/mixed-use-building-adjacent-properties-in-gr-s-monroe-north-district-sell-for-22-6m

  6. I'm pumped. How many apartments do we have to build before something finally goes into the Madgrub/Red Ball Jet building?
  7. https://www.crainsgrandrapids.com/news/retail/wine-and-floral-shop-coming-to-long-vacant-site-in-grand-rapids-creston-neighborhood/?fbclid=IwAR1xtqiJqrlV00EsU2AEQ6SAHbmDw9W1hplgApTi1WsqpKf56QnZTj9B6pA&mibextid=Zxz2cZ
  8. Maybe I'm disoriented but one of the renderings looks like the courtyard opens up to the parking garage while the site plan looks like the courtyards are fully enclosed. It seems like from the resident's perspective it would be nice to be able to walk from the garage to the apartments without having to go outside.
  9. What really excites me about the three housing developments for Creston is that all are planned for properties that were vacant/abandoned. We aren't losing anything, but we are gaining 700+ units of housing and a few retail spaces.
  10. Call me crazy, but I actually really like the aesthetic. Also noted this from the article:
  11. I don't....the neighborhood association email didn't provide much detail other than "mixed-use" and 500+ residential units (!!!). Going to the neighborhood is usually a first step, but we have seen proposals for this property fizzle out in the past. I am hoping that with all the new apartments on Plainfield and the upcoming work on the riverfront along Monroe that this one will be different. I have no inside information, but it would be awesome if the ground floor of the building was a Bridge Street Market-style grocery store. That is really needed in that area.
  12. The developers of the former Display Pack property are bringing a proposal for a mixed-use development in front of the Creston Neighborhood Association this week. I don't know many other details, but it will be interesting to see if this takes off.
  13. Has there been any update on that soccer stadium stuff? Maybe I am being greedy, but I feel like we are overdue for some kind of big announcement. It sure would make this week of crappy weather more bearable.
  14. for those interested, it looks like MiEN is offering a tour of the Baker building next week. Link to register: Michigan (a4le.org) also included an additional rendering for the corner of Ann and Monroe:
  15. oh wow you weren't kidding. big overhaul. Fingers crossed!
  16. There's a interior demo permit submitted for the commercial building at 1590 Plainfield. Not a ton of information but indicates that the future use of the building will be "retail". It looks like the building has been vacant for quite some time. A facade was removed in 2020 or 2021 exposing the original masonry. Google streetview from November 2020:
  17. Curious if anyone has the scoop on what is going in to the spot at 1414 plainfield? ( between Rez Lounge and Sun Title) It had a for lease sign up for several months. The sign is now gone, and the windows are call covered in some reflective sheets.
  18. Sorry if this has already been discussed, but there is an item on the agenda for the next Historical Preservation Commission meeting for a proposed mixed-use development at 241 State Street
  19. yeah the southern end at the corner of Grove and Plainfield will be a commercial space. that portion hasn't been constructed yet. An article said it's a 3,275-square-ft retail space.
  20. I'm really enjoying this transformation - I wonder if they already have a prospective tenant for the commercial space. From the permit records, it looks like they could start moving dirt on the Quimby/Plainfield site in as soon as a couple of weeks.

  22. It's true. More and more adults are choosing not to have children. I used to think I wanted kids, but we have been very happy with the DINK (technically DINKWAD) lifestyle. 1 in 5 adults choosing to be "childfree," MSU study finds (michiganradio.org) More childless U.S. adults now say they don’t plan to ever have kids| Pew Research Center
  23. The north end of the building is now at 3 stories. Still kind of in awe at how fast they are moving. It looks like the commercial space next to Rez Lounge has leased. The windows are all covered so I’m interested to learn what it will be used for. I also noticed that the old Sun Title offices have been divided into several tenant spaces. Will be interesting to see what goes in there too…
  24. someone may have better intel, but this is from the demo permit application: edit to add this:
