  1. i mean, we have entire parks in uptown with plenty of trees and seating lol. we also don’t have many buildings with place-making on the street. there’s concerts and events all the time at romare. look at twitter/instagram comments when charlotte SHOUT is here. people are yearning for more street activation and cool things to do/look at. every year people want all of the items to remain in uptown permanently. why do you think that is?? 2. lololololol so now art isn’t a part of urban development? got it, [emoji1474] wait, wooooah… hold on, this is an urban forum? had nooooo idea, i appreciate the clarification. these things aren’t mutually exclusive, art can exist with, inside of, or without green space. also don’t appreciate the slick “minor league baseball” comment. i’d argue that we esp NEED something more inspirational to look at on our way back to the train after leaving bofa stadium watching the panthers hand in another mediocre season. but hey, at least we have shade on this one corner! yay! 3. lol no one “hangs around” the firebird. just like chicago’s bean - people observe it, take a quick pic of it/with it and keep it moving. i love how much attention it gets, as i walk uptown everyday. wow, how prescient of the developers to plant an oak tree to help with the increasing temps lol. i don’t think that’s what happened. i think they wanted a nature vibe and went for it. and that’s cool and great, but i believe that incredibly busy corner of the city, where 10s of 1000s of biz/sports tourists will venture, would have benefitted more from something much more unique and interactive and picturesque. but i digress, i’m just a cpa who only knows spreadsheets.
  4. i like everything about ally, from the eco conscious build to the retail it offers, but none of you are going to convince me that a tree is more interesting and valuable to that particular corner than an original work of art. if you want a nature experience go up tryon less than a block and chill at The Green. great park with some solid food options!
  5. boom! great idea dude! Norm... i was simply stating that i don't care whether it's ugly or not ugly, as it wasn't point i was trying to make. read to understand, instead of reading to respond and grandstand. try that first.
  6. LOVE Metalmorphosis! I used to work out there when I was in grad school and we would have lunch at the tables surrounding it and plenty of people would take pics. again, nothing wrong with trees used as art. the more greenery the better in most cases. but geeeez, that intersection of brooklyn & tryon has so much gravity and i would've loved to have something a little spunky and experimental that made people say "ok this is cool as hell. this is thing everyone takes a pic with when they come to charlotte."
  7. ugly, not ugly, don't care, your opinion. that's not the point - the firebird is way more interesting and attracting than a tree. a few more feet and branches won't ever change that... we cry everyday on this app for more street activation and here ya'll are defending an oak tree no cares about but the people on this app.
  8. a tree, in comparison to an actual work of art, is not insipid? look, i’m not anti tree. i’m pro interesting. pro unique. and i’d beg to differ that a tree surrounded by concrete and an unkept flower bed is “tying the space together.” no one is taking pics of, or with, that tree. and no casual tourist values it the way you, an urban enthusiast, does. tourists and casual uptown strollers are just looking for something cool to take a pic with. developers putting something cool and unique there could’ve drawn people there to experience the retail even if they hadn’t planned to. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalkeveryone enlighten me on how the ally tree is anymore beautiful than this one in front of the parking deck. i’m not an arboriculturist, but come on.. 9. i found it frustrating that developers decided to place a tree there. such an insipid decision. i live in uptown and walk along tryon/brooklyn nearly everyday. i cannot count how many times i’ve seen people take pics with that weird disco bird in front of the bechler. it’s ugly for sure, but at least it gives people something interesting and unique to take picture with to say “this was in charlotte.” similar to chicago’s bean. just wish ally would have given tourists another option. there’s plenty of trees along the sidewalks in uptown already. 10. she’s a beauty. (damn i wish someone would redevelop those two parking decks below the wells fargo building because geeeez what a waste)
  11. so how much taller will this residential project be than the original building? will it be as tall as the catalyst and element? very impressed that they’re not demolishing because this building seriously looks like the jail in uptown lol
  12. This city is absolutely BOOMING! I can't keep up! Does anyone have a consolidated list already started? sheesh!
  13. apologies if this is the wrong thread. is this site ever going to be developed? this is on tryon right before the railyard. seems like a prime parcel for something cool.
