  1. Great insight! And I was actually just thinking this, recently had dinner at 800 degrees over there and the layout of the shopping center reminds me of exactly what I'm talking about. Really hope they make a huge investment in Phillips Place and turn it into something special. The demographics of that area def support it.
  2. So with a bourgeoning mid-to-high wealth demographic in Charlotte, is that enough to attract retailers and build a buckhead village district (atl) or highland park village (dal) type of development, which is essentially the expensive wing of southpark mall with a lot of restaurants and bars? Edit: Hoped this sort of thing would happen for Epicenter, but it doesn't seem likely given how awful this building is and the amount of repairs/renovations it would take.
  3. The density part is what I love most about your post. IDK how these things work, but wouldn't it behoove LH to build residential on this final lot to make their vacant retail spots more attractive? Or does that matter when pitching to potential retailers?
  4. Not sure what your definition of “super-tall” is, but by my count, Charlotte has 1. And that’s 1 BAC tower.
  5. Yes, I love it! Love this energy! And moreover, our beloved Charlotte deserves it!
  6. Hey man, people might be giving you some pushback, but I love your ambitious goals for Charlotte and I hope LH has the same goals. Go big or go home! World class cities need world class buildings and pedestrian experiences, and I think they can accomplish both with this last parcel! (also I’m praying to the ancestors that LH does not buy the iron district land…)
  7. Took this the other night. Awesome seeing people grab ice cream and chill in the courtyard, enjoying another warm night.
  8. It's owned by Cheesecake factory but don't be fooled, it's excellent! Get the truffle bread as an app, and chicken parm for dinner!
  9. Me too! It's by far the project I've enjoyed the most in the past 5 years. I work in that building at a consulting firm (incredibly gorgeous office) and get my workouts in at Orangetheory. Love Summerbird, Stir and North Italia too (i know they're chains, but good food is good food lol) ... Love the courtyard and atrium area! Top 5 people watching spots in Charlotte lol Edit: The micro retail in the back is awesome too! Wish Uptown would adopt this sort of thing to help usher in more local retailers.
  10. Completely agree! And obvs the definition of "iconic" can differ from person to person, but I'm really in love with the designs of Portman Southend and Ascent Southend. I think both are damn good!
  11. ok that makes sense, just older decrepit buildings. i always thought it could've been transformed into a cool little strip of bars for live music but probably unsafe given how close they are to the racetrack ... i mean morehead lol
  12. Not sure if this is technically Gold District, so please forgive me if it's in the wrong thread. But what do we think about demolishing these older, single story buildings for a 15-20 story project? I like that it includes retail and frontage on morehead and church. Snippet below:
  13. Agreed! For me it's about creating density more than an iconic design. I want our retail options to go up a level. I hate going to other cities and seeing so many wonderful retail options in its urban core, while we have pretty basic options (i.e. - everything at the metropolitan outside of TJs and a couple restaurants). We deserve better and Southenders/Uptowners are ready! Edit: And by retail I mean clothing and apparel options.
  14. Thanks, dude! Been waiting on this rendering. I walk by there pretty often and I still can't picture that big ass tower fitting in between these two buildings, unless the building on the corner is going away? Or maybe I don't have the best feel for space lol
  15. *super yawn* These are the kind of tenants I’d see in a strip mall my small rural hometown of Sanford, NC.
  16. I was walking down Camden today and noticed how long this building is! Will have an awesome rail trail presence.
  17. Ahh ok, gotcha! Thought I was onto something lol
  18. Ok, so I'm a super novice when it comes to looking up permits and such filed with the city, but does anyone know what's happening at 130 W Bland (right behind the McLaren dealership)? Saw something filed with the city for this address.
  19. dude! i was walking down college street coming back from dinner and looked to my left and saw someone in the kitchen and it scared the hell out of me! haha
  20. sorry if was this is implicit, but does the consolidation of the towers speed up the project completion date? i saw 2025 but didn't know what the original estimate was. btw - idk why but seeing projects like these come to fruition makes me kind of emotional. it's amazing seeing this city grow the way that it is. such a wonderful time to live in this beautiful city!
  21. so you’re saying that on *that* particular corner plaza, the oak tree and lets say - chicago’s “bean,” or manhattan “LOVE” sculpture or even brooklyn’s new “unity” sculpture, inspire the same things? come on… i believe they are working at cross-purposes on *that* corner. again, i am NOT anti place-maker tree. i just don’t like the tree on that corner, but just my opinion.
