  1. 85% of the pay with 50% of the COL. Charlotte workers come out ahead.
  2. Yeah, Terminal 2 at SFO is very nice. The lounge is only a few months old, feels fairly spacious for the number of flights, and it's close to the gates. You step outside and you might have a 5 minute walk.
  3. LGA spent $8 billion on their revamp and, last I checked, CLT is spending $3.1 billion for "Destination CLT" through 2035. The new spaces will be better but E will still be E.
  4. Delta putting skyclubs in both of AAs largest hubs is cracking me up. Granted, AA has a lounge in ATL but they don't have one, yet, in MSP. I wonder if Delta intends to upgauge at Charlotte in the future and compete on other routes just to be a pain to AA. LAX, SEA, SFO are all in dire need of competition.
  5. Which is interesting because as I understand it, the retirement taxation situation is less favorable than many other states.
  6. Madrid airport is top notch. Glad to see it and Dublin back.
  7. Unless you're a premium market for AA your terminal is going to be lackluster. Even their flagship terminals are suspect if we are being honest. We are AAs most profitable hub and the AC is getting a modest renovation because of a fire code issue. Not because they actually wanted to compete. The flip side of that is that we can fly nonstop to damn near anywhere in the country. Try doing that from Nashville or Indianapolis.
  8. What AA probably meant was 87% of their flyers learn their lesson to never return and the other 13% of us are captured by DFW and CLT.
  9. Wow, that's a lot of non-AA O&D. Frontier, United, Delta, etc. Would kill for a JetBlue expansion. They won't but I would love Mint to SFO or SEA.
  10. Can't wait to see this terrazzo flooring look like unkept trash after 2 weeks like B&C.
  11. Yeah, agreed. NRT isn't bad but even with NEX it's still a hike, especially if you're going to Shinagawa. I'd shoot through Itami just to have an excuse to visit Osaka.
  12. ANA flies direct to IAD from HND. I know VA is iffy on Southeast status but it's an easy hop with United. Would love direct HND flights but I'm not sure we really have the O&D to support a 787 rotation through CLT. We might eventually swing a Qatar flight to get to India. They have already done cargo flights to CLT.
  13. This is still accurate, at least there's been nothing to the contrary produced. A North will be a viable expansion for Delta, United, Spirit, Frontier, Air Canada, and Southwest. I bet Jet Blue sneaks a few games too with their Northeast alliance.
  14. Pricing out some international travel next year and it looks like United is consistently undercutting American for most 1-stops. I'll gladly take some downward pressure on CLT tickets.
  15. Construction will start this month on more than 300 apartment units in University City as part of a large redevelopment to be the area’s “future town center.” The 311 apartments, called Novel University Place, are being developed by Crescent Communities and will be spread out across four buildings, each with three to five floors. They will be a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom units. Crescent will also build three separate carriage buildings, similar to a townhouse, with tuck-under garages, according to a company news release. The first units should be completed by 2023. The company did not disclose the cost of the project. The apartments will be part of Waters Edge, a larger development project around a small, 15-acre man-made lake near the intersection of J.W. Clay and W.T. Harris boulevards. So far, a small cluster of box store buildings, including a Michaels and Ross Dress for Less, have been demolished to make room for the project. The stores were relocated to vacant buildings across the street. EB Arrow, a Dallas-based developer, is leading the Waters Edge project. In 2019, Charlotte City Council unanimously approved a rezoning request for the project, which will sit on about 20 acres. It will also include an office, retail, lakefront park and a refurbished 1-mile pedestrian trail that runs along the lake. ADDITIONAL PLANS FOR THE AREA The development is less than half a mile from the J.W. Clay Boulevard light rail station. The project falls in with what has been a flurry of development along the $1.2 billion light rail extension from uptown to UNC Charlotte, the Observer previously reported. There have been discussions to relocate the nearby University City Regional Library to the project site. Darlene Heater, executive director of University City Partners, which advocates for economic development in the area, told The Observer Thursday that negotiations remain ongoing. It’s been a “difficult and slow process” to get the pieces in place, Heater said. Heater’s group has advocated for the library relocation. It’s the second busiest branch in the system and could be served by higher visibility and better accessibility if located on the project site, Heater said. The library currently leases space near Atrium Health off W.T. Harris Boulevard. If relocated to the project site, EB Arrow has plans to double the square footage of the library, Heater said. Heater said the makeover to the lake’s waterfront will also open new space for events like live concerts. Work is also progressing on a new pedestrian-friendly bridge over Interstate 85, which will help better connect University City with the area’s research park. The I-85 North bridge will be a two-lane road with a two-lane bike path. Current work includes land acquisition and finishing final design, according to the city’s website. There are also plans for a new streetscape at J.W. Clay Boulevard, which forms a ring around the lake. The project proposes to add sidewalks and bike lanes by widening the street. Utility relocation was expected to start this summer and bids will go out late this year, according to the city’s website. “I can’t even find words to express how transformational these three things are for the area,” Heater said. Among the tasks on the to-do list: name the 15-acre lake, which is actually a stormwater facility that was formed by damming a stream underneath it, Heater said. For now, those in University City just call the spot “the boardwalk.” Read more at: https://www.charlotteobserver.com/news/business/development/article254999427.html
  16. I doubt we see one before the next expansion of A. It'll be really interesting to see what happens then once the next phase completes. I would welcome additional carrier options from United and Delta. Would love to see United provide an alternative to non-stop SFO.
  17. Those 700 jobs probably average 340k. Lots of execs making millions, directors making around that and plenty of people downhill from there.
  18. Maybe Amazon would create an Amazon GO or one of their five star storefronts. They are fantastic stores.
  19. I imagine that cross taxiway is to help cargo? Nice to see some movement on the ground traffic issues.
  20. I have serious doubts on them leveraging the A321XLRs from CLT for international flights. They could have placed 752 here and opted not to, I think you will see them in BOS and DCA to smaller markets in EU if they plan on them being international at all. Of course they could but I would bet on them upgaging 319 markets to older 321s and moving the XLRs to use for South America, transcon, probably Caribbean from West coast. Ah, yeah, thinking of MAD, not BCN. CLT is a huge hub, will probably be North of 800 daily AA flights, and will have a 4th, 10000 for runway by 2025. International traffic may have shifted but it will recover easily in the next 3-4 years. It will be well positioned but, again, PHL. Completely agree on JV but AA has a decent 7X7 fleet with plenty on order still. They'll do something with that fleet and it won't all be DFW, PHL, MIA, SEA, LAX. CLT will see more connecting to fill those seats.
  21. Paris could only return on a 772. They aren't going to allocate a 787 to CLT and they don't have any other wide bodies now. CLT is a 777 base and they 100% aren't going to put a 773 here. Munich, Frankfurt, Dublin, etc. will return. Barcelona will return as it is a One World hub. The real question is will CLT get new international routes such as to ATH? If we were to expand it would be to other hubs such as HEL or DOH. At the end though I would put money on no. Not as long as PHL has a ton of capacity and JFK exists. They might also expand DCA a bit but after CLT.
  22. Both B and C will branch out in addition to being widened. Not sure about making the ceiling taller. I think the long term plan for FIS involves elevated walkways.
  23. MUFG is enormous but salaries are lower than almost everyone else in Charlotte from what I hear. They've got a substantial operation in PHX so maybe they're testing the market with similar salaries. Still is a great move for CLT.
