  1. Between this and the hotel on Central/Hawthorne that is proposed there is going to go from zero hotel space in this area to a decent little bit. I am curious how long longer the UPS Store retail center will be around. Definitely not the highest and best use for 7th and Hawthorne.
  2. I live directly in front of a streetcar stop and rarely use it. It isn't consistent enough to be reliable to get to work in the morning. Every now and then if I can afford to wait 45 minutes if need be it's fine. I took it to and from the CLTFC game on Saturday and it was solidly filled going there and moved at an OK pace. After the game was a nightmare. After the game it took almost 25-30 minutes for the first streetcar to get to Gateway Station (toward Eliz/Plaza -- we front ran and tried to get the car before it filled up at mint so the delay it wasn't because of traffic). Then it was so packed people were literally fighting each other (alcohol plus long waits plus a packed car is a dangerous combo). Moving through uptown was at a snail's pace. There were cars leaving both MLS and NBA games so there was going to be traffic, but they have to (1) have a system for getting multiple cars in uptown to pick people up when a game lets out and (2) have ways to keep it moving despite the traffic. Easier said than done but I can't justify taking it leaving a game again unless there are major changes.
  3. It says complete. Does that mean the city views this as connected?
  4. Are there any plans to connect the Cordelia Park portion of the Little Sugar Creek Greenway to the urban/midtown portion? It feels like such an important gap.
  5. Sustaining 70k+ is obviously unrealistic but the goal is to average 30k for the rest of the season and that isn't crazy. They had over 20k season tickets sold before Saturday. Atlanta saw a big bump in season ticket sales after their first match and I would expect CLTFC to as well. It's gonna take the team a while to get the on-pitch product up to a good level but I would expect Tepper to spend money in the summer (Europe's transfer window) to buy at least one and maybe 2 big signings (you're allowed 3 players that don't count toward the salary cap). Especially with how bought in the city has been given attendance and the amount of merch I've seen around, I would be shocked if Tepper doesn't try to invest in the team to get quality up.
  6. I REALLY hope they fix the sidewalk/pedestrian infrastructure up Hawthorne at that part of Central as part of the redevelopment. The apartment across the street did a great job with the sidewalk and trees, but this side is pretty awful and gets worse the further you go up. Culture shop is incredible and should be a nice walk from Central but it is pretty bad at the moment.
  7. Things like turning 2 single family lots into 10 townhomes is exactly what the city should be aggressively pushing through. It is a win for pretty much everyone. Increases housing units (increase in supply to help alleviate the increase in prices) while dramatically increasing the property tax revenue from the lots and creating density to help support the local business.
  8. Thanks for the quick work. The retail will be huge for Parkwood and the new protected bike lane.
  9. There construction on Parkwood (I think around Siegel). Anyone know what is going up?
  10. I really hope they end up breaking the record. 10-15k in the next month is ambitious but definitely feasible.
  11. Just bought 2 tickets for pre-sale. Looking forward to this.
  12. It's pretty amazing they've sold 50k without releasing individual tickets for sale yet. They should at least come close to 75k. Plus with so many people already going, I think there will be buzz around going when the time comes. Also, they still haven't announced any Designated Player (i.e. big name) signings yet. If they splash money on a big name that could increase exposure even more in the next month or so.
  13. Well, the 7th and Caswell was only after the lot was vacant for a few years because the ECA killed the prior project (partially because it was residential).
  14. 11 months of the year, I think the lobby is unnecessarily large (the side with Parliament/Waterbean to Tryon would have been enough) and having that space on Tryon available for additional retail would have been useful. But when Christmas comes (except last year ), I am so happy they have space for the train set.
  15. Just walked the route hoping to hop on a train as it came by. Walked from Trade and Tryon to Hawthorne and 8th and no train ever passed me. Was curious how long it would take. Waited another 11 minutes before one finally came. I take it occasionally but it is SOOO inconsistent, it would be impossible to regularly rely on.
  16. The Christmas train set is back up in the lobby this year. One of the best Christmas decorations around uptown (better than the dancing bears in my opinion).
  17. The parking lot across the street needs to be developed. If you have a 5-7 story apartment building at the corner of Elizabeth and Hawthorne with retail down Elizabeth opposite the existing retail it would create a symmetry that is needed (plus the residents would utilize). It's a big lot that extends to 4th. So much wasted potential.
  18. Does anyone know if there is any plan to connect Little Sugar Creek Greenway between the portion near Alexander Street Park and the portion by CPCC? It's so close, but soooo far given how unfriendly the roads are in between.
  19. Plaza Midwood/Elizabeth being a 10 minute neighborhood getting some solid press in support of the 2040 plan. https://spectrumlocalnews.com/nc/charlotte/news/2021/05/27/10-minute-neighborhoods-strive-to-make-charlotte-more-accessible-?cid=app_share
  20. To any Elizabeth residents, the ECA sent a survey to residents about transportation preferences. If you live in Eliz, you should all consider responding. If anyone needs forwarded send me a DM.
  21. That location is going to be demoed, it is just a question of when and what goes there (i.e. how many stories). I'm a little surprised it hasn't happened yet.
  22. Does anyone know if there are any regulations that prevent the City from making the bike lanes along the Streetcar Route (Elizabeth Ave./Hawthorne) protected? There are lines painted but nothing else so no sane person would actually think it is perfectly safe to bike on it without risk of being hit by a car.
  23. They're tearing up the platform at Hawthorne and 8th. Must not have been built correctly because they just finished jackhammering the ramps.
  24. Obviously there are far more rental buildings being built than for-sale condos, but does anyone have any numbers on how many condos were built? My suspicion is that they would sell reasonably well but I'd be curious if there was data to back that up.
