This might have been noted before, but Charlotte shows up on Google  maps rather prominantly at large scale.... and Raleigh is not even there.  Might be a cartography thing, where it competes with the "NORTH CAROLINA" text, but man.  Big snub to Raleigh.

of course it could also be a algorithm thing where google knows I'm biased toward Charlotte and showing me what I want to see, so it can sell me something.

Ok im not trying to ruin your fun but I think Raleigh is missing because North Carolina is covering it, the algorithim probably has some minimum distance between lables so it isnt too cluttered looking, same thing for the other missing cities @QCxpat mentioned

  2. I just drove back from the triad recently. They have finally opened up part of the 4 lane highway near to where that large ACN building overlooks the highway and south. The rest of the southern part of the expansion it looks brand new and ready to be opened any day now(probaby painting and removinf the temporary lane paint if i had to guess) In regards to the northern part of the expansion, it looks like the southern part did a year or year and a half ago did, its still a concrete base with exposed barrier holders and half finsihed bridges, probaby a year or 2 off until the whole thing opens to 4 lanes. But when it does it'll be a whole new world, i can go 85mph all the way to Greensboro and not sit behind a 50mph minivan in the 2 lane section anymore, I cant wait!

Or they could take a train! We’ve got a freaking train!

Honesty this is how I imagine Charlotte brands itself in presentations to companies like Amazon or others looking to move here

    CLT: We have a train

    AMZ: What?

    CLT: We have a train

AMZ: Ok a lot of cities have trains, what else you got, education? taxes? culture?

CLT: I dont think you get it, we have a train *winks*

AMZ: Ok.... ummmm..... we'll get back to you *crosses Charlotte off list*

  4. I think the city could get it cheaper than the $680k per acre @cltbwimob estimated. Could probably get it declared a Superfund site and eminent domain the entire place for around 150-200k an acre since a reasonable price for a federally declared hazard would be much lower than not. and give NS somewhere near the airport to put a new one it, plenty of space out there. Get it cleaned up and redevloped with highest bidders for a plan similar to the UNCC one @Desert Power shared above. The city would make money and we would get a new core

  5. So today while riding past the entrance to the CRI campus of UNCC at about 9:15pm I see cops all around the tracks where it starts to go down towards the tunnel. Looking around confused I see a car looks like it was tring to make a left turn onto Tryon from the shopping center and turned onto the tracks instead and got stuck in the gravel. Driving down a ways 3 trains were stopped a few hundred yards from each other. Was cleared up by 11 when i came back through though. Car was about where they grey car is but on the tracks in this Google Maps pic. I tried to get my own but with traffic/rain/night they ended up bad.

All of Florida, Ga, SC, NC, Va, Tenn, AL, MS, LA, TX, AR were part of the Confederacy. In addition, MD, KY and MO were slave states that were not allowed to secede for strategic reasons. They certainly considered themselves part of the South.

Good points in general. But not all of VA, the north west counties of VA were totally against succession and formed the state of WV which was formedand admitted to the union before VA proper was readmitted

My parents lived in the neighborhood behind Bojangles Coliseum, their first house, near Monroe Road and Eastway. They were extremely lucky, that neighborhood had a lot of pine trees, and while the house was surrounded by fallen trees, the doghouse and shed were smashed, the house itself saw no damage whatsoever. They were some of the last people in the entire city to get power back, 28 days if I remember correctly.

    Was the dog ok?
