If you want really cheap parking UNCC doesnt check parking on the weekends from Friday ~7pm to 5am Monday, just go to lot 25 or N Deck and hop on the rail if u dont mind the ticket cost and walk from station to stadium

There are multiple Bird scooters around campus here at UNCC now. I guess they brought them from uptown on the light rail? But they have even less regard for pedestrians than the bikers and skateboarders, so if u need one please come take it from UC to wherever you want it to be that's not here.

I'm confused. Where is this 44 story tower going if not at 650 S Tryon? Are we getting a 3rd tower on this site already?

Has Charlotte had any tall buildings like 10+ stories been demolished? I feel like tall old buildings are good for a city like ones in WS, GSO, or even the oldies in NYC and it would be a shame if we have lost some

I wonder what BoA is hiding. Are the CEOs secretly lizards? Are the buildings disguised missile silos? Does anybody actually work for them? We demand answers now

They should put a public atrium in the pyramid, tired of not being able to go high in any buildings if i dont work for BoA or Duke

Also half the lights just went off during the game, should probably throw away the whole place
-
Need a dome over the stadium ASAP, have been forced out 3 times now due to lightning this game

Comparison of NC Colleges and Universities by Endowment
N.B.: Figures are latest available online with dates indicated (largest to smallest)
A. Endowments Greater than 1 Billion
Duke $ 7.9B (2017)
UNC Chapel Hill $ 3.9B (2016)
NCSU $1.35B (2018)
Wake Forest $1.141B (2016)
B. UNC System Universities with < 1B Endowment
UNC Greensboro $251.8M (06/2014)
East Carolina $207.9M (10/2012)
UNC Charlotte $181.5M (08/ 2014)
UNC Wilmington $98.11M (2015)
Appalachian $ 94.643M (06/2015)
Western Carolina $66M (06/2016)
UNC Asheville $40.5M (06/2016)
UNC Pembroke N.A.
C. Other Charlotte Area Colleges & Universities
Davidson $780.9M (2018)
Queens Univ. $100M (2016)
Johnson C. Smith $51.1M (05/2006)
Wingate Univ. $48M
CPCC $16.7M
Belmont Abbey $8.02M (2014)
Pfeiffer N.A.
N.B.: School with Charlotte-based satellite campuses, such as, Johnson and Wales University and Northeastern Univ. are part of larger universities whose main campuses are located in Providence, RI, and Boston, respectively. Endowment figures for those universities do not break down the endowment figures for their Charlotte-based campuses.
UNC Charlotte getting the short end of the stick, lower budget than schools way smaller than us, how are we supposed to become world class if we cant get properly funded. We definately have the lowest per capita funding out of all state schools

I think yall are missing out on something important with this Shake Shack thing. The type of millennial that lives in South End is the same type that loves basic, overhyped chains and trends, SS will do great there and most wont care about any long-standing businesses at all since they just moved into the 704 in the last few months.

The movie studio made sense, it just wasn't done well and things have fallen apart since. At the time, North Carolina had great film incentives and was doing pretty well accumulating a decent portfolio (Nell, Juwana Man, Shallow Hal, Last of the Mohicans, Dawson's Creek, The Color Purple, Homeland, Banshee, etc).
Having an actual studio where intricate sets could be built, difficult scenes could be shot, television shows could have audiences, and professionals could gather, work, and share ideas would have helped move us closer to Atlanta's film industry - which is doing quite well.
There were plenty of people here ready & willing to get to work. The film classes at schools around the city were always full, alumni (some with impressive achievements) were eager to come home and start something special, a few networks were sniffing around, and there were some relatively well-established media professionals around town or otherwise connected watching carefully & meeting. Lots of people were vested in film here the way we're vested in cranes and TOD. Most people wouldn't want to join in on the conversation, but they're excited to see the end results.
To this day, "Film = Jobs" stickers can still be seen on cars, but a few of the pros threw up their hands and left. I think it would have been something unique for Charlotte; that "Look at me!" and character/creativity we're always striving for, but between the planning fiasco here & the bumbling mess in Raleigh, we're way behind where we were at the start of the Eastland process. I mean, just think of how much better our Amazon bid video would have been if real film people had a hand in it...actually don't think about that video. That was a total embarrassment.
But imagine this, the FC Barcelona camp pans out and we start making soccer talent out the wazoo. Imagine having the next Pelè, Ronaldo, or Messi coming out of Charlotte or the Carolinas. That looks good and brings in many people. Also sports players love to give back to their communities and hometowns, have you evrr talked to someone from WS, cant go 3 sentences without them mentioning Chris Paul and how he is from there and does things there. Also a new hub in the city isnt a bad thing no matter what. Also soccer is the worlds sport and may bring moee international attention to CLT if we create talented players regularly.

My favorite part of the light rail. The curve leaving UNCC main station. I like how it is one of the only parts completely surrounded by nature on the entire line
Also the Hyperloop is a scam, there is literally no way you could keep a constant vacuum in a space that large unless only 1 group every couple of hours is using it. Elon is only having this plan to boost the value of his Boring Company

Is there no hope for CLT-Stockholm service? I would have thought it would be a relatively strong business route.
I would think CLT-Stockholm would be a no brainer. There is a large Swedish population in NC especially Greensboro because of Volvo Trucks. I grew up there and live there in summer and there were like 100 Swedish students in my high school alone, probably many more in others and many adults with no kids, and they all travel to Sweden regularly. So if someone does start the CLT-Stockholm route they would be rolling in the $$$

It may just be my lack of architectural knowledge, but that seems like an awfully small plot to build a tower on. As long as it doesnt look like that super skinny thing in NYC I guess it will be ok.

Here at 9pm on a Wednesday students are still using. I was coming back from the store and use the station to cut through to dorms from lot. About 10 students were waiting for it and about 3 dozen disembarked from the train. So even at this late hour the train is getting steady use from the 49ers. Here are 2 photos of it coming in and disembarking(please excuse the quality, took them with 1 hand while holding groceries in the other)

Charlotte-Douglas Airport (CLT) Expansion
in Charlotte
Posted · Edited by Trickbot
IDK if it jas been mentioned here before but today I took a career trip to the Carolinas aviation museum and their president spoke to us. He mentioned that they have plans to move soon to a purpose built building along Wilkinson Blvd as part of a "Front Door" project that the airport is doing that includes hotels amd breweries. They are starting a $30 million capital campaign soon to help fund the move and building within the next 3 years
