I forgot about Dockery. But Dockery was in Tampa.  And if she was GOP, so was Mica, who got Sunrail going for his district. She didn't want that money going to benefit CSX and namely only Orlando while Tampa got left out of the mix. Straight up regionalism.

"Led largely by"- well, Sunrail did need City of Orlando as a partner with its 4 stations. How many total stations are there again?  Dyer did his part, but it was mainly because of Mica and CSX and a Republican governor which made this happen.

But, you don't have to respond to my prior post. I didn't expect a response; only to set the record straight as to who the players are and where peoples' ire should be directed...if anywhere.

You are so hung up on who is Red or Blue that you forget details. Or maybe you don’t, I wouldn’t know.

For the record, if DeSatan was a Democrat I’d probably be an Independent myself. This statement has nothing to do with what actual party I choose to support — just sayin’

so, when John Mica was our rep, we got Sunrail.  Then, Dem Stephany Murphy was bankrolled in.  She represents our district for transportation issues etc.  So, who exactly is to blame here?  Mica got us Sunrail; Murphy hasn't done squat.  What DeSantis has to do with this, I have no idea.

You seem to have forgotten that Paula Dockery pulled every trick out of a hat to kill Sunrail and then governor Scott continually delayed state funding for it through legislative delays.
It was the local counties in bi-partisan measure led largely by Buddy  Dyer who fought tooth and nail against Tea Party Republicans and they eventually won.

You're right.  Cory Mills is the 7th District, which is north of there, now predominantly Seminole and areas to the NE, etc..

However, Dems Darren Soto and Maxwell frost are of the 9th and 10th Districts respectively, which comprise the Beyond Ultimate Corridor to the SW.

So, where is the blame for the democrat(s) directly responsible for that corridor?  @Ivanhoe You blame spending $$$ on new RCID replacement signs for the shortfall, and a the false presumption that I-4 traffic near 429 trumps, say, Miami rush hour traffic, or even Tampa traffic along I-75 near the I-4 Interchange.  have you even been to those places during rush hour?  Is it that out of the realm of possibility that maybe money has been prioritized for those regions over this one?  Why do you think they created the OOCEA to begin with back when places like Jax, Tampa, and Miami all had bypass freeways built and Orlando didn't? Because they were bigger than Orlando and, for the most part, they still are.

Also, @jack, Volusia and/or Daytona Beach had to hire a lobbyist to secure funds for the redone I-4/US 92 Interchange, otherwise it would not have gotten done when it did- and Volusia is red.  However, Isn't Osceola blue?  Isn't Orange blue?  So why have those two blue counties sat on their butts and not done ANYTHING to secure more funding for Beyond Ultimate?  Why haven't they gotten with FDOT and pushed them to ask the Fed for more money?  Volusia did.

And, @Ivanhoeit is hypocritical to blame a Republican for not allotting enough money for the type of project that Dems probably wouldn't support anyway (in lieu of say public transportation).  Maybe those two don't care about the Lexus Lanes (versus public transportation initiatives).  And if that's the case, how is it DeSantis' fault if they aren't lobbying for it?

And on the public transportation front, what has Soto done to get $$$ for the Sunrail airport link?  He's been in office for 3-4 terms now, and that's squarely within his district.  That's public transportation, isn't it? And it benefits his district, doesn't it?  DeSantis's fault too, huh?

And I find it ironic that the Republican representing West Volusia (6th District) has gotten funding (or will get the credit for it) for the DeLand Station of Sunrail, while nothing has been done for the airport link which falls squarely within blue-controlled territory.

So, @Ivanhoe, before blaming DeSantis, first learn the political landscape of the affected area and look to there first when assigning blame- because it starts at the local level first.

I have no plan to respond to you point by point as this entire post is conjecture and little to do with anything I said. As par for your course.

...because FTL and Broward are way bigger than Orlando and Orange...

It’s more than that. They are significantly more land restricted than Central Florida and their economies are more diverse. Construction is the second largest economy driver after tourism in Orlando and that endless sprawl has a lot to do with it.

That did get funded, but original plans called for a double decker which has been deemed necessary to get 4 express lanes in that area and there isn't enough money for that... that has been put on hold in favor of temporarily adding 2 express lanes. The 4 express lanes were funded in Osceola County. If Disney paid their fair share of impact fees, its likely the full project would have been funded, but they seem to have escaped that.

If there isn’t enough money for it, one must ask where it’s going instead of the most clogged artery in Florida.

Why is DeShameless wasting your tax dollars to put up signs at the entrance to  Disney called the Central Florida Oversight District?

Florida is doing a lot of things wrong right now but term limits are not one of them.

    I dunno.

I kinda like it the way it is.

I sorta like the way the pyramids kinda blend in, fade and disappear against the sky in certain light.

Anymore white on the building would be too much, IMO.

I totally disagree. Why should the tallest building in Orlando simply disappear?

Universal didn't even build their centerpiece hotel that tall. That is all I'm saying. That hotel is too tall for the area. I never thought I'd even be the one to say this, but I understand things a bit different now and it's just bad zoning, but of course people are going to defend it because of the brand. Orange  county does not zone well and it's going to start to show and reveal it's ugly head real soon if not already . those apartments and 7-Eleven should've never been built the way they are.

I agree it’s bad zoning, but on behalf of the apartments, 7-11, and Vista Cay. Those were built knowing that Universal was putting a theme park and hotels literally in their backyard.
Universal Blvd was built as an extension of the tourism district of I-Drive. For that reason, I think it’s fair game for W to build a 22 floor hotel there. It’s less than mile from the 428’ Hyatt Regency and even closer to the 15 floor Rosen Shingle Creek.

  8. I think W hotel will help to bookend that area nicely keeping in mind that it’s quite close to the EPIC hotels under construction facing Universal Blvd.  Most of all though, I find its offerings most exciting — the restaurants, bars, pool deck and venue all guarantee it will be a runaway success. And if it is, this could bring similar brands to Orlando that aren’t here right now (let’s say for instance, the Standard brand).

    That's all I ask.

That you go by my words when responding to them and not replace them with your own or those that you'd like to substitute for mine.

IMO, a slender, 200' - 300' tall building with a footprint small enough to be contained within that one parcel would be perfectly acceptable and even preferable.

You are entitled to your opinion as am I.

The important thing to remember here is that neither yours nor mine will have any bearing on what if anything ever gets built on that corner.

I’m not getting why that is funny to you.

It, use to have a grand pipe organ, but it was parsed out and sold. So did all of the theaters in town.

There should still be a vision.

It was done to create an atrium/lobby.  I agree, its hideous and that buildings use has reached its life limit, but should be preserved.

There are options. The acoustics were never it’s strong suit so instead of trying to create a performing arts venue I could see it used for smaller events and with a mixed-use flexible ground floor.

Removing the atrium glass structure would make sense then as it was only added on later when space was limited. It’s never going to get Broadway-event style crowds again so it should be removed to let the building shine through.

  12. ^Something about how downtown Orlando has deteriorated rather than even stagnating seems sad and different from peer cities. I’ve tried to go out downtown a few times in the last year and inevitably we just end up in the Milk District or Virginia / Mills area because it’s more hip, edgy, and well, more safe.

  13. I don’t understand the emotions surrounding this non-existent development (height, density) on any side. I do understand what a shame it was that a beautiful hundreds year old tree was lost by a fast move on behalf of the developers.
If the city is interested in buying empty lots, this would have been a good contender for a park space especially in an area unserved by a decent one.

After riding brightline, the stops are negligible. Literally like 90 seconds

Trains don’t start and stop on a whim. It is not negligible.
Brightline will not reach its potential as true high speed rail in Florida.

Nevada and CA will get it.

Guess he's gonna have to start selling off properties.

As I opined on another politics forum I post at.... how funny would it be if Barack Obama bought Trump Tower and renamed it Obama Tower:D

I prefer the Clinton Foundation Tower.

They are “New Yorkers” after all.

Well, based on everything that was put out there last year, Disney wasn't ever going to pay for any part of the BL station- BL was.   But when Sunshine Corridor was proposed, Disney bowed out with a thud like the butt-hurts that they are because Universal was going to pay for a station and donate land for it.  I think Disney was also going to charge BL rent at Diz Springs on top of it (but not sure- prior articles that have been posted laid it all out).

As for ridership numbers, the Orlando segment to MCO is outselling the SoFla segment like 51% to 49%, and the SoFla segment was already profitable to begin with. So that's a success.

On the subject of taking Florida cities for a "ride," um, since time began, developers and landlords have done the whole build to suit thing to lure companies to their cities.  Sure, some companies financed new skyscrapers and stuff.  But why should BL pay for a station in a city where they didn't plan for a station to be when its that city that really wants the station there?  Last I checked cities give incentives to companies for their presence there (see KPM&G, etc.).  Why should BL be any different?

What are you referencing with regards to BL's next focus being Cape Canaveral?

I’m not claiming Brightline should be any different from a money grabbing corporate entity. I just find it laughable that Rick Scott and  anti-Obama Floridians told the federal government to take a hike on true HSR and are now begging for federal dollars to complete a segment that would already have been built right now. Hypocrisy at its finest.

But hey, it’s good business for BL and yes, they’re taking you for a ride and not just on those tracks.
