  1. According to this Reddit post Rocky's is closing? Has anyone heard anything about this? https://www.reddit.com/r/grandrapids/comments/18gczgz/rockys_closed_for_good/
  2. Cool article. I remember going down there on a class trip in the late 90's before they stopped doing the tours
  3. I just drove by there recently and saw this. The curved roofs are interesting. I'm wondering if anything is going to be added to the exterior, or if it will just be pre-fab concrete like the castle?
  4. Hmm, that could be interesting. Back in the day the Elk bartenders would always joke that they were a Donkey waiting room, so if people can come and enjoy a drink and look at art I can see it being successful
  5. I've noticed while driving by recently that they've been moving dirt around near the 60th and East Paris intersection. Does anyone know if this is related to the liner buildings they initially proposed?
  6. This was back in about 2018 or 2019. I don't know the whole story but I believe it was after the co-founders sold to a new owner who wasn't a fan of the management at the Wealthy St location and cleared house. I knew a couple of the bartenders from that time and they all were let go instead of moved to the Comstock Park location and they had a pretty bad reaction to how it went down
  7. I've noticed quite a bit of activity along Patterson near the airport. The yellow lots had their tree's cleared out within the last 2 weeks or so. Anyone have any information?
  8. Wow, when it's finished that will be quite the contrast to the 5/3 building
  9. I agree. I'm also not really sure why they chose the already weathered/rusted metal look either
  10. Could be for anticipation of post election day violence unfortunately. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/elections/2020/10/29/businesses-boarding-up-anticipation-post-election-violence/6069157002/
  11. Wow, looks sharp so far. Between this and the new Amyway glass GR is finally starting to shed some of it's outdated architecture!
  12. Madcap is no more in the Downtown Market. I wonder if they will replace them with another cafe (Rowsters maybe?) or just revamp the space. https://grbj.com/news/beverages/madcap-coffee-closes-downtown-cafe/
  13. Then we definitely have seen each other there, since I used to be there on Wednesday's for trivia all the time! I still like to go there from time to time especially to enjoy the patio in the summer, but the vibe of the place has definitely changed.
  14. Hah, I bet we've been there at the same time many times since I used to frequent it often as well. I actually was closer to the bartenders who got let go and it seemed like it was the owners trying to take more control over the wealthy st location since the management there had been doing their own thing for a while. It was pretty shady and caused a couple other bartenders to quit. Steve, the brewer at that location is still there though and is a great guy.
  15. Just saw someone on reddit saying that Saugatuck Brewing has bought Creston Brewing. Has anyone heard anything about this? If true I'm wondering what possible changes might come. Went there a couple times but thought it was pretty meh
  16. Planet Fitness announced as the anchor tenant. Opening Spring 2020 https://www.grbj.com/articles/94771-health-club-plans-downtown-location
  17. Hah, I'm getting married there in May and I had the same thought
  18. I'm loving this building more and more as it gets built. The renderings looked nice, but just seeing it in reality and the effect it already has on the street level is incredible
  19. News on 710 Wealthy. Although I'm not really into pottery I think this would be a great addition to this stretch of Wealthy https://www.mlive.com/news/grand-rapids/2019/08/pottery-studio-to-renovate-aging-grand-rapids-building.html
  20. Are they painting the brick on the right building, or are they keeping them separate colors?
  21. Construction starts in July for 706 Wealthy https://www.mlive.com/news/grand-rapids/2019/05/retail-apartment-project-approved-for-former-wild-bunch-property-in-grand-rapids.html
  22. Went there last Friday for dinner and everything was great. It looks like they really haven't changed any of the interior besides signage
  23. East Beltline north is a mess now since they closed the WB I-96 ramp and the normal detour to Leonard is closed due to construction there. It was backed up yesterday all the way to Meijer Gardens with everyone trying to do the Michigan left at Eaglecrest Dr to turn right at Leonard
