This future is not far off. Cars will be parking themselves soon.

Has anyone seen a rendering? I would expect it to look similar to the Raleigh tower.

What does bidding entail? I didn't know there was bidding for the RNC/DNC, I thought they just went wherever they wanted. If this involves tax breaks or discounts, that would be truly disgusting.

They're putting glass in on the webcam side now. -
Snapped a couple pics of the new student apartments at the corner of University City Blvd and Suther Rd. We have brick!

"Light rail privileges are tied to your 49er ID Card, so that means you don’t have to have a ticket to board. Just show your card if asked by a fare inspector on the train" I was expecting to have to pay as an alumni! I'll just carry my old card with me.

I think people like to romanticize car ownership. Sure, we all have fond memories of days in cars with friends. But if you think about it, aren't these moments actually few and far between? For every one great drive I have, there are 30 that are frustrating, tedious, or at best totally neutral. I believe once people really do have the option of never needing to drive, the majority of people will take that choice. I know I will. As for the rest of you holdouts, well, eventually you won't have much of a choice. All of the associated costs of car ownership will go way up. And soon public opinion will shift. People won't want you on the road because you will be seen as dangerous, an unnecessary risk. And that will be entirely true. How often do you see a horse and buggy on the freeway?

Guys...there will be no new light rail lines in Charlotte after the BLE. Human transportation is going to look very different by 2030. Ordering a self driving taxi will be faster and cheaper. Mass transit is going the way of the dinosaurs.

What if the City of Charlotte purchased the team? I'm guessing the numbers wouldn't work, but it'd be nice to see the public have some stake in this instead of yet another oligarch.

Why release a shortlist at all? To pressure the cities on it to offer up even more incentives?

Err, not that I know of. I have seen several examples of garages being built recently with a future conversion in mind. I doubt our developers have that foresight though (which makes no sense to me). Inclined floors complicate things quite a bit I imagine... Necessity is the mother of invention though. Something will be done.

Everything is temporary. The garage will be converted to another use in 10 years, when we no longer need parking spaces.

Burson is almost done! I've noticed the same about the bricks. It's really bad next to Rowe. I've seen them reset the bricks more than once, but they don't stay even for long.

I went to Greenville, SC for the first time to see the eclipse. It was great, but possibly even better was seeing how totally awesome Greenville's downtown is. I found it very walkable with many mixed use spaces, art galleries, restaurants, boutiques. Falls Park was especially cool. I left the town feeling quite envious...

It'll always be Covfefe Plaza in my heart. -
Construction on the new plaza starts in October last I heard. But yeah, it doesn't look so great right now. I do miss the tower.

I think it's a shame. They're one of the largest banks in the world, do they really need to remind people they exist? -
I would think all of the defective concrete ties have been replaced by now? They've sent the train all the way to UNCC as recently as a couple weeks ago.
-
What do you think "value engineering and cutbacks" means?
-
Last Sunday, a train arrived at the UNCC station for the first time. This means that the entire line has now been traversed successfully. https://inside.uncc.edu/news-features/2017-06-19/‘light-rail-connects-us’-–-first-train-arrives-campus

Does the city government have no authority over what kind of mural can be put up? Or like, a neighborhood association or something? The developer can do anything they want?

A decade from now, we won't need parking in Uptown. Cars will park themselves elsewhere.
