NBA draft tonight. Anyone have any speculations? There is a lot of talk around Bol Bol right now. This is Kupchak era now, let's see what he can do.
I've been reading a lot about Rui Hachimura from Gonzaga being a likely candidate. Would certainly bring some jersey sales and Japanese attention to the Hornets which couldn't hurt.

about this... I like Jeni's but heard the feedback from some others on UP it might be overrated. Over the last two weekends, I took my son to two well-rated local places (Elizabeth Creamery and Golden Cow). I hate to say it, but I came away more convinced Jeni's actually has a superior product. Not only does Jeni's have more unique flavors, but I genuinely think the ice cream taste better. I am kind of meh on ice cream in general, but I love Jeni's. It might be an unpopular, trend-following opinion, but I can now confidently say I like Jeni's more than other ice cream shops. FWIW.
Agree with you on Elizabeth Creamery and Golden Cow - not as good as Jeni's. As for local, my favorite is Two Scoops. Give that a whirl if you're looking for more local shops to compare.

I did see a targeted ad on a website today that said something like "Google Fiber - As certain as downtown is called Uptown". Seems like they're making some sort of reinvestment.

I always felt that Martin Luther King Park was severely underutilized considering it's connected to the Greenway to uptown, Seversville Park, Frazier Park and an easy walk/jog/bike from uptown. It's 29 acres without adding in Seversville (11 acres) or Frazier Park (12 acres).

Community rezoning meeting was last Wednesday. Well attended and no opposition. New expected date for official rezoning with city council is February or March. Seems they've had a lot of back and forth based on traffic study.

Seems like Savona Mill redevelopment isn't dead yet. Community meeting tonight with the owner and K&L Gates. Hoping to have rezoning complete by December. Just signed on Viva Raw as a tenant to move all of their production and a storefront to the site. Talk of event venues as well, but nothing solid - had some conceptual artwork from cluck design but I wasnt quick enough to get a picture.
Also actively working with ncdot and CSX for the right of way for the Lakewood trolley. They've got the no. 85 car in storage and it looks in great shape. Have 3 other old trolleys as well that are in need of some serious restoration work.
Everything moving slower than everyone would like, but the owner has accumulated all 23 acres and seems to be in it for the long haul.

Has anyone been to Blue Blaze in a while? I went once with my SO and we were the only two there. I was kind of "meh" on their beer and the location is definitely not a walk to or bike to spot for most people. Does anyone know if they draw a crowd? That would be the one that wouldn't surprise me too much if it folded, although I did see they started canning at least one of their beers and sell it at Knights games.
I think they also do a pretty good business through canning and distribution - I know I've seen their beers the last time i was in Charleston. I think they can 5 beers last i checked. I do worry when Town Brewing opens in Wesley Heights if that will siphon off tap room business from Blue Blaze.

^^ Thanks and good to know. Didn't realize there were separate projects.

Surprised to see this, but then if you read the article it seems to mention they're still looking for investors - so I wouldn't say this is necessarily a done deal. Hard to really see where they fit in to the larger landscape, though maybe they sell better at distro than I'd expect?
I worry for Blue Blaze once Town Brewing opens up next to Rhino Market. Maybe they expect to lose some of the neighborhood tap room sales and realize that investment in distro is the best way to go? All conjecture, but that would be my thought.
Lack of movement on Savona Mill and Lakewood Trolley hasn't helped them either.

Good New Restaurants
in Charlotte Coffee House
Posted
Noble Smoke is looking to soft open shortly after July 4th. Some more details below. This place is going to be absolutely massive. Hoping it becomes a destination, otherwise it'll feel awfully lonely in such a big space!!
When Noble Smoke opens in July, meats will be smoked in a few different ways:
The restaurant will have a dining room and bar with seating for more than 200, an event space with capacity of 80 to 120 guests, a designated pickup area for to-go meals, a biergarten with seating for another 200 guests and its own brewery space.
