Hurray! Charlotte’s first modern parkingless residential has been proposed for Seversville (per Charlotte ledger). The eviction thing seems a bit harsh, why should Grubb care if residents own a car and park elsewhere? Regardless, thanks to very good bike infrastructure (although the hill at the stadium underpass  could use some improvements) this is a very good place to test the economics of this in Charlotte. Hat tip to Grubb!

It's interesting to see the opposition to this project growing in the neighborhood. I've been here for about 5 years and have rarely seen any NIMBY-ism to any project EXCEPT this project. A lot of outrage over no parking . I got a flyer in the mail earlier this week asking people to sign this petition: https://www.change.org/p/charlotte-city-council-stop-seversville-rezoning-petition-2019-167?source_location=topic_page

  2. Just saw a white young thug try to break the windows at BofA Corp Center with another guy then  he ran across Tryon and was promptly taken down by a black guy who was shouting   "This is not about violence!  "  All live on WSOC  kudos to the black gentlemen who kept on the ground and I think police arrested him but not sure.
white thug in green shirt here is a photo of him

Unfortunately the same guy threw a brick through the window at 204 North. Seems like a small number of people escalating what has otherwise been calm.

  3. I get the nostalgic appeal of the Manor and the cultural need for access to art house movies, but TBH I never particularly enjoyed seeing films there. The quality of the experience just isn't great. #unpopularopinion
I agree with this. If we had other art house theaters, I wouldn't mind this news as much as I do. The city can support at least 1.

    1. agenda with the "11 breweries opening in the next 6 months"....and they're not including 2 in Cornelius.  I'd say the realistic o/u by Jun 30 on those 11 is around 3.5.   https://www.charlotteagenda.com/191508/quick-list-of-all-9-breweries-thatll-open-in-charlotte-within-the-next-6-months/

    2. went to Middle James on Sunday....they have a new wit on tap which was fine.  They also have a new Lime beer.  It's horrible.....I mean for me.  Maybe straight lime juice is your thing.  My wife, a proud Iowa grad, poured out the final couple oz.  The alumni association may fine her for that.

    3. I don't know if it was mentioned here, but Unknown has recalled their Imperial Teleporter and their Russian Roulette....due to wild yeast infection causing re-ferment and thus exploding cans.

On that last point, I was a victim of the Russian Roulette...

Any beer insiders know if Triple C had trouble with White Blaze this year?  Just realized the other day when I was looking for it that I haven't seen it being sold anywhere.  Even when I was at the brewery 3-4 weeks ago

Seen at the Wesley Heights rhino market today if you're still interested in getting some

Does anyone know why most of the small trees and bushes along the Stewart/Irwin Creek greenway connector were clear-cut? Not the most striking of trees, but it still made for a much more shady walk or run and I saw people regularly take professional pictures underneath some of the more attractive trees.

Hopefully they are replaced by something else, otherwise it seems like a massive waste to cut them all down.

According to a thread on nextdoor it has to do with concerns from Duke around trees under the transmission lines. Seems silly to me considering the trees were short cherry trees and have been there for years. Apparently county and Duke are in talks about what they can be replaced with. Wesley Heights community association is involved as well.

  7. I've been living in the neighborhood for 3 years now, and the building - whether it be house flipping, new construction of homes, new constructions of townhomes, etc has been relentless. I think one of the questions that is interesting about the west side of town - especially Seversville, Biddleville, Smallwood specifically - is when will the food/bar/service/retail businesses follow?

The streetcar and demand for in-town housing has made these locations attractive for new residents and residential building is booming, but the commercial side is essentially unchanged during this same period of time. If you look at W. Trade street from 77 on to past Five Points there hasn't been a single new consumer-facing business in the last 3 years that I can name.

  8. Mini rant... Warriors lose KD and are able to get Deangelo Russell, Celtics lose Kyrie Irving and are able to get Kemba Walker, Nets lose Deangelo Russell and are able to get KD and Kyrie. We lose Kemba and decide to hamstring ourselves with a bad, guaranteed contract for Terry Rozier.... If we needed to lose Kemba fine, but at least tank with confidence.

Surprised no one has posted this yet, but per Woj and ESPN, Boston is the front-runner to land Kemba this off-season.

I'm a big Hornets fan and will always root for them, but if Kemba leaves I will probably lose about 95% of my interest in the team.  Lets hope MJ realizes how important he is to the team and city and opens his wallet.

Makes me sick to my stomach seeing this play out. If you were going to pay him, pay him. If you weren't going to pay him, then should have dealt him for something of value last year. Just doesn't make any sense.
