Mature trees dropping like flies on the westside…makes sense when they’re defoliating and under strain because of disease induced by increasingly frequent drought conditions, but when they’re lush and healthy and get felled because of site clear-cutting due to incoming dense development, it stings.  Tree below was cut and not sure why, but looking into the reason.  It’s on or along the greenway.

It's happening absolutely everywhere on the west side. There really should be more stringent rules around protecting the existing canopy. Most of the time on these projects, they'll cut down all the mature tress and then plant a few new trees upon project completion - half of them end up dying. Absolute shame.

  2. Anyone know the situation behind this property on West Trade?  So many changes happening in this neighborhood and so many people moving in, and yet the front porch to the district looks so despairing along West Trade right near I-77.

If I remember correctly, the duke endowment purchased it a few years back to avoid it being bought up and turned into a dollar store. There was talk of some plans to turn it into a food incubator, but never materialized.

  3. well you know how secretive Publix is LOL. But they must have signed a letter of intent.
from the Atlanta which has  unique names for their Kroger stores.  First the Murder Kroger was plowed over and rebuilt and I have visited the new store (and survived)  Now the Disco Kroger is getting plowed over for a mixed used complex in Buckhead.  Why the Disco Kroger?   "" "Disco Kroger" was one of the first 24-hour stores in the city when it opened in 1976. When the Limelight nightclub opened next door in 1980, the grocery store became a favorite spot of late-night partiers, earning it the historic nickname.""

Atlanta has cute names for their grocery stores does Charlotte??  if not we need to start some.   I guess we do have the Taj ma Teeter in Southpark and the Tiny Teeter in 4th Ward.  anymore I am missing?

  4. Anyone have any experience with the UNCC Masters in Urban Design program that they can share? Dabbling with the thought of enrolling part time but don't have any personal references or connections to speak to the quality of the program and potential partnerships/career paths in Charlotte post graduation.

  5. There’s so much going on in this area with old warehouses.  I’ve probably read but forgot. What is going in this warehouse project?     Restaurants, office, retail? Thanks
Office and retail but don't believe any tenants have been announced

  6. Foot in the door opportunity here. Charlotte would look great on tv and the lack of fans would be much less noticeable in Romare Bearden Ballpark than in a more bowl like stadium.

Actually just heard Charlotte mentioned as an option on ESPN during the Mets vs Yankees broadcast.

  7. Traust is progressing but was slowed by covid. I met one of the investors the other day as I was passing by. Mentioned that the building next door will also be a brewery but didn't offer any details. That would make 2 breweries and a seltzery next to each other on Thrift Road

  8. I think it's an interesting idea. It's a parcel right next to the Greenway leading uptown. So I assume that part of your target demo is someone who works uptown and wants to walk or bike to work but not live or pay uptown/south end prices.

    It could work?

I will be very interested to see how they enforce the no car rule. I'm not sure it's possible to enforce? When I lived in DC there were plenty of people living in apartments that would just find street parking in the neighborhoods and leave their cars there until the next time they needed them - could be a week or two. Definitely annoying for neighbors but is it really a reason to petition against a development?
