  1. Agreed. Although everyone here would obviously prefer the shiny new 20-story building, it's going to beat the heck out of what's there now. While that shouldn't be the standard, it's a start in what's been a pretty dead area of downtown for a lonnng time. Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good!
  2. Saw it mentioned on another forum and confirmed it on Breeze website. Just go on their site and do a search for that flight, it shows up as connecting (or, Breezing Thru) through RIC.
  3. Also, in lesser-announced news, Breeze is now offering flights with connections (called a "Breezethru", cute, right?) in addition to the point-to-point routes. RIC is showing up as a connecting airport for flights such as New Orleans to Hartford. I may be wrong, but I'm not sure any airline has offered connections at RIC before. This is obviously far from a hub, but a step in the right direction!
  4. Based on their intro: "A new low-fare airline from JetBlue...", and "...currently serves three nonstop destinations from RIC...", both of which are incorrect (the first one very obviously), I'd say this is a lazy reporting error. VERY excited for the new destinations, especially the restoration of LAS service and SFO!!! This is huge for RIC and RVA. I'm yet to try Breeze, but it appears that RIC passengers have embraced the new airline. I have a SFO-RIC flight scheduled on United in September right now (with a connection); I'm strongly considering cancelling that and trying out the SFO-RIC direct.
  5. I always liked the old one over Marshall St. at MCV. I believe it was 5 or 6 levels high. It was replaced with a single-level one during a renovation at some point.
  6. Any thoughts on what this morning's announcement of Frontier buying Spirit (assuming it goes through) could mean for RIC? I've long thought that Frontier could do well here, especially looking west. This could be an opportunity to re-establish service to Las Vegas which JetBlue cut after a short run.
  7. It sounds like Breeze is adding a 4th city from RIC starting in February - West Palm Beach.
  8. LAX nonstops are back starting in early May. I have a hard time thinking that RIC won’t get west coast flights again sometime soon. I can’t imagine that RIC’s “shot” at this was a trial run in the middle of a global pandemic which destroyed air travel. I think we’ll have a chance with Breeze once their A220s are delivered. I also can’t figure out for the life of me why Frontier doesn’t fly out of RIC…
  9. Are you just looking at the available seats on the flight? If so, I think Breeze is doing a lot of the seat-assigned-at-checkin thing that ULCCs often do, so it may be better than it looks...maybe?
  10. I love how a few short years ago we were talking about how Denver would be so great and now we're debating London vs. Paris!
  11. It sounds like Southwest is finally adding a route between RIC and Midway. Starting 4x per week and going to daily in May. Great news! Southwest has prime growth opportunities here.
  12. I see what you did there ;). I find myself personally excited at the prospect of having a casino nearby, but I do agree with you that it needs to be done correctly. The upside can be very high, but the potential downside could be destructive to a neighborhood. Although I definitely don’t want to lose the movie theater, that’s one reason I might lean slightly to favor that location over Manchester. The Scott’s Addition area, I think, is better able to support a successful casino because of all the other entertainment options nearby. I’d be concerned that a Manchester casino would be an island, and a depressing one after the newness wears off.
  13. I think best case scenario is that Saks takes the vacant Nordstrom space when their Stony Point lease expires.
  14. Damn, that sucks if it's true. Hopefully you're wrong about the likelihood of never coming back. Although unlikely in the next year or two, there's now at least a record of an airline seeing some demand for this route. It would be pretty unfair to the Richmond region if our only shot at a Vegas flight was in the middle of an industry-crippling pandemic. Here's hoping the LAX route is doing well. Edit - on second read, I don't think that article necessarily means this is a permanent cut by JetBlue. This is just their February schedule, which hopefully means that it can and will be reinstated.
  15. Where did you see this rumor? I'd hate for RIC to lose Southwest, even though it seems they haven't at all tried to tap into the potential market here.
  16. JetBlue to add Richmond flights to LOS ANGELES(!), LAS VEGAS(!), and TAMPA later this year!!! https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20200910005309/en/
  17. My understanding of the TIF is to earmark the real estate taxes collected for the properties in the TIF. The tax assessment for the WestRock building wouldn't reduce if it lost Costar as a tenant, so that shouldn't affect the city coffer's bottom line. The real estate taxes for new Costar building would obviously go to pay back the city's bonds for the arena (until those are paid in full), but that would be additional (i.e. new) taxes on a previously untaxed parcel - essentially creating something where there is now nothing - and the city would continue to collect the same taxes it's been collecting on Costar's previous home. Then, of course, you have the additional taxes the additional Costar positions would bring to the City such as sales tax, personal property tax, etc. etc. Am I understanding the idea of the TIF incorrectly?
  18. I went to school in Winston-Salem for a few years and I recall most locals having a less complimentary name for that building...
  19. There are several of those old Arby's signs rusting away in a lot off of Hermitage (I assume the local franchisee HQ). It's a shame to see the former highway icons like that, you can see them if you zoom in on Google street view here: https://www.google.com/maps/@37.5627689,-77.4604075,3a,15y,267.77h,89.72t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sUcsIuPE6h5x_EPyxRUSazg!2e0!7i13312!8i6656
  20. New update. We now have some structure in place.
  21. Concourse A expansion well under way!
  22. Is it possible to "unpin" some of the pinned threads on this board? It's obviously a very minor inconvenience in the greater scheme of things, but needing to check for new threads at the top of the page and then scrolling down and checking again under all the pinned threads seems unnecessary, especially when the newest post not in this thread or the "Richmond Developments" thread is over three years old. Perhaps only those two could be left as pinned topics. I may be the only detractor, but thought I would throw out the suggestion...
  23. Did United pull the Denver route off of their mainline? I recently booked a flight for mid-March and it seems like all the planes flying at that time are Embraers, no 737s or A319s. The last Airbus flying that route I could find was scheduled in February...
  24. I saw some articles today about United expanding service and adding 22 new routes, mostly at EWR and IAD. All of the articles mentioned that United was also adding service to other destination including, among a few others, Richmond. No new routes were mentioned from RIC, so does anyone know what this means? Upgrading existing routes, adding additional service on existing routes? Would love to see some new destinations along with the expansion of currents...
