  1. I believe the Daytona Beach area has much to contribute. Embry Riddle University, Daytona Beach International Airport and the Daytona Speedway and Halifax are all in the same area. Placing a station in that area alone will boost ridership. Also the area has the Daytona 500 and Bikefest events that draw thousands and thousands of participants.
  2. The blue islands of Deland, Deltona, Orange City and Debary are close enough to moderate Seminole county, maybe they should secede. LOL
  3. The first few lines that I can only read mentions a proposed plan to come into the county. What’s that all about?
  4. I believe that Stetson and Rollins need to step up. Not to the size of another UCF but at least big enough to provide variety to our area. They need to provide a different perspective, more convenience, more alternative.
  5. I heard from a well placed source of a rumor within Rollins college that the college quietly bought the soon to be vacant Winter Park library. If true it makes too much sense to buy that property especially with the expansion of the Alford Inn and the construction of a museum on the hotels property.
  6. More eateries. Large space will probably be divided.
  7. If the Mayor Demmings Orange County transportation tax passes then that could indeed be the game changer for development. I can envision Sunrail expansion westbound with inevitably a stop at CWS or at least nearby. This will tie in CWS nicely to the CBD. A renovated CWS with reliable transportation could draw an MLB team to the stadium. IT can also push us over the hump in being awarded FIFA World Cup games for 2026. There is a lot riding on this tax initiative. Fingers crossed!
  8. Well I say let’s use the stadium more often by encouraging an MLB team and incorporate the stadium into downtown...
  9. Gotcha ya..... Here is a pic
  10. Just got back from Charlotte and I had a chance to ride their CATS train. Very impressive!! Trains run every 10-15 minutes. This interval serves to encourage ridership. If u missed your train “ Oh well I’ll wait 10 minutes for the next train, no biggie.” Unfortunately for Sunrail if you’ve missed the train the wait is 30-120minutes and you’ll be late or avoid the tardiness by taking an Uber or commuting in your own car. This defeats the purpose of commuter rail. Equally impressive is the development all along the 26 stops that I quickly counted on their system map legend. Their was also a trail system alongside both sides of the tracks that residents used for jogging, walking, scootering, and skateboarding, etc... All along the trail there were fancy supermarkets, snazzy eateries, delightful ice creameries and breweries galore. All the meanwhile sleek modern trains whizz-by down the center of the trail. I also noticed that the last stop of CATS was UNC@Charlotte thus the trains were packed with students. There also are plans to expand by two more lines by 2030 at the cost of 8billion into Charlotte International airport. The frustrating part of this is that their system was built with money originally awarded to Orlando. That money Catapulted the development and modernization of that city. So why didn’t Charlottes train system make it onto the top 25?
  11. Sunrail does not run 365 days of the year. The train operates 5 days a week multiplied by 52 weeks =260 days. Minus federal holidays, which I’d say 7 days throughout the year=253 days give or take. Ridership is around 5929 a day I guestimate. This is awesome! As I ride around town I see riders at the many stations at all hours of the day.
  12. I apologize if I lowered myself to a lower level. I mostly ignore ppl like that and when I do engage it’s in the most polished English and polite way possible. But some ppl only understand a certain technique, the language of plebeians or plain folk. I’m just fed up with intolerance and backward thinking.
  13. Ummm and I just deliver mail. Your right about the crickets observation. Not a peep! We shall what’s the next move on the chess board.
  14. Seems like your already identifying a target group. I for one after spending hours at a theme park WILL NOT be interested in a baseball game. Seems logical that the ones who are spending time at the beach will likely take in a baseball game. Your case assumes that all tourists come solely for the theme parks. Not all visitors come for that, Orlando has a GiNormous Convention center industry. As a matter of fact 1.5 million ppl attended our convention center in 2018/2019 that’s 2 % of 75million ppl there alone. There is a big enough influx of ppl from the 75 million pot to identify a target group. Uand I who are not statisticians can identify ppl imagine what a well thought out plan with real Stats can identify. Also all this minor league baseball stuff and failed MLB attempts is based on different facts and a different time. Orlando now has a population of about 2.5 million ppl. If we factor in our visitors we have approximately 8-9million ppl living here on a monthly basis, the size of NYC proper.
  15. Interesting take Spense. I don’t entirely agree but he does bring up valid points that can be solved. 75 million is a number that can’t be ignored. If that number is broken down a target group can easily be identified. Also the gentleman states that no one likes to visit a stadium in the oppressive Florida heat. That’s so true because I flee into the shade every chance I get, but an indoor stadium will easily solve that. Another point is that Tampa still has 8 years left on their lease, that’s not that far away not to mention Orlando has time. 8 years might be the time Orlando needs to put its bid together. Hey long did it take for the outrageous Orlando Magic idea to become fruition? I do disagree however with Pat Williams that we should build a team from scratch. The markets between Tampa and Orlando are to close in proximity and even overlap. Probably better to poach the RAYS and some of their fans from Tampa, bolster it with a modest Orlando fan base and Seal it with 2% of the 75million visitors.
  16. I need not say anything else. I’ll let your stupid comments speak for themselves.
  17. Tough guy definitely not, but definitely fed up with intolerance. Your claiming private conversation but u put your conversation for everyone to read in a forum that everyone opines on. What do expect will happen? Just keep your intolerance in check or in the closet and continue to opine in a manner that everyone enjoys. If u can’t do that then Alabama is about a 4 1/2 hour drive away you’ll find more like minded ppl there.
  18. It is my business when u put on blast for everyone to read u d#%^kweed. If u don’t want ppl to opine let me suggest to take it to a private chat. Better yet go poof and don’t come back to our URBAN blog.
  19. That was a crappy joke. Keep your politics out of a baseball discussion.
  20. I think the Orlando Wizards would be more appropriate then the Orlando Dreamers. The name Wizards plays well with the Magic. Also instead of starting from scratch, it is probably better to poach the team from Tampa. 1. There is already a fan base. Albeit a tiny fan base but it can be expanded on. 2. They could follow the Orlando city model that taps into the 75million tourists that visit our city. Tampa can’t boast 75 million visitors. Imagine getting 2 percent of those 75 million to visit a ball game that’s 1.5 million from tourists alone. 3. Plus a modest market in Orlando. Those 3 factors can realistically push attendance into 2million ppl a year. It also cannot be understated how important it will be to place a baseball stadium in downtown Orlando with access to public transit. Apparently the biggest issue the Rays have with attendance is that the ball park is isolated and difficult to get to. Camping World Stadium is easy access and close to public transit. I may not be the biggest baseball fan but I do enjoy a good game. With modest support this could work if given a chance.
  21. Orlando is just to Sprawled out. The weather really isn’t helpful. Average joes probably don’t mind walking at least a block but biking 5-10 miles isn’t what they look forward to.
  22. Colonial drugs closed up their pharmacy and integrated all of their business with the one remaining pharmacy in Deltona
  23. Also what’s to say Sunrail will be using the Same stations. Just because a station works for Brightline , Sunrail May build another station along the same tracks that’s more accommodating to Orlando residents . A station that makes sense economically from a developer point of view for Orlando. Thanks for the information ppl I’ve learned a lot.
  24. Hmmm well I don’t suppose representative Darren Soto is an engineer and I certainly don’t know where he is obtaining his information. He is on public record saying that Sunrail is compatible enough to use Brightline tracks. This does make me wonder though, TriRail will be using Brightline tracks and I am under the impression that Sunrail and TriRail use the same locomotive and train sets. So if TriRail can travel on these tracks why not Sunrail. Please cure my ignorance if I am mistaken.
