  1. I would be surprised if the city didn't put a bid on it, similar to what happened with Military Circle
  2. I fall directly in this camp but with Military Circle about to be redeveloped it would be better if we have these large projects more staggered. Going to be hard to instantly fill a brand new MC and Macarthur space
  3. Also it's official! ORF had over 4 Million Passengers in 2022!!! https://www.facebook.com/NorfolkInternationalAirport/posts/pfbid0DJ7dzKrWh5x778aZKW3mxTrLFb3vBELtivCaDdUKKoa5884SqYKyKcqrG6HYu9Z3l
  4. Went over there to check out what they were saying and yeah they're just talking.
  5. I have no inside info but I would imagine that's just speculation.
  6. I thought city council was trying to close Baxter's down too
  7. I encourage y'all to watch the video of the presentation on the Norfolk.gov website. President of the airport authority presents a lof of good info that isn't on these slides. I'll post the link sometime after work if I remember. Highlights off the top of my head: Expansion of Concourse A is near term, hoping to get that started and completed soon. Airport hotel is something that could come together really quickly, due to location it seems there will be less paperwork needed. Still in the very early stages but there's a desire to get this thing out to bid sooner rather than later. People movers will be returning soon, hoping to get federal funding, but if not will just put the bid out at risk Airport is performing well, not only compared to previous years but also to competing/similarly sized airports. Norfolk is now a Medium Class hub, only one in Virginia (IAD and DCA are major, RIC is regional). Apparently this also means that ORF will be getting $1.25M from the FAA instead of the $5M they would get if they were a regional airport. San Diego is the biggest demand that isn't yet filled. "I am confident that we can fill a plane to San Diego every day" International flights were brought up multiple times, but nothing to announce right now. Spirit was mentioned as having an extensive Caribbean presence as an opportunity. Meeting with Breeze this week. Didn't mention specifics but hoped that they would be able to have more good news after this week. Concourse C is in the plans for the future, but is more medium term. Plan is to consolidate security into one checkpoint by bringing it into the main area that is currently occupied by Burger King/The Local. This was presented with the plan to construct a new check-in/ticketing area and a changed drop-off routing. He didn't specify if these things would all need to be built together or what the timetable would be on it. Plan to get a second runway is still present, but due to Norfolk now launching larger planes means that the actual number of takeoffs is down, which takes the pressure off of the second runway for the time being, and allows the authority to focus on the terminal and more passenger facing problems in the near term.
  8. Well then by all means, please demonstrate.
  9. Well duh you have to pay for parking in Downtown Norfolk. When the land value of a parking space exceeds the value that space brings intrinsically then you have to do something to help make up the difference. Virginia Beach doesn't have this problem, it seems.
  10. "take no sides" HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA you're hilarious. Your bias is obvious
  11. I think there's more real estate being dedicated to parking instead of housing/businesses. Really frustrating to watch the City have so little imagination with this project.
  12. Norfolk has increased the Police budget every year for the past 3 years, and the Police is the single biggest line item out of General Fund expenditures outside of Debt Service and Norfolk Public Schools.
  13. Lol trying to hide in the DMs.
  14. https://www.pilotonline.com/government/local/vp-nw-scotty-quixx-closed-20220928-gojbuzo3p5dmlfsq3wwz3tfekq-story.html?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Breaking News&utm_content=6251664323383 I don't want to hear the City try and say its trying to attract young adults and build a 'vibrant downtown' again seeing how hostile they are to what actually builds those things. Stupid moves by the council that are going to kill downtown nightlife.
  15. The Tide stop right there is called the "EVMC/Fort Norfolk" stop. So I'd say that it's called "Fort Norfolk". There's also a difference between calling an area a "midtown" and something name being "Midtown". Norfolk is designating an area bordered by Church, Monticello, and 25th as "Midtown" so I would wager that that area's name will be "Midtown"
  16. The area is currently known as Fort Norfolk (as shown here https://www.norfolk.gov/DocumentCenter/View/1632/Downtown_Norfolk_2030?bidId= ), what I'm saying is 'why change that name?'
  17. Home Games vs: Virginia Tech - 2022, 2024, 2027, 2029, 2031 Virginia - 2028 Wake Forest - 2023 ECU - 2024, 2027, 2030 Liberty - 2025 Army - 2030, 2033 JMU - 2022, 2024, 2026, 2028, 2030, 2032, etc App State - 2023, 2025, 2027, 2029, 2031, 2033, etc I think ODU's gonna have teams folks wanna go so see for some time to come. I think a 30K stadium is a no brainer, but y'all can hate for no reason if you want.
  18. What if we called it "Fort Norfolk"? It's a somewhat unique name and given the location of a nearby fort makes sense, imo.
  19. An entertainment option could be good too. Isn't the flashy hub they advertised but I think it'll be decent at least for the neighborhood and surrounding area
  20. I'm not sure why y'all are surprised, the layout they showed before was very suburban. Not really a ton of density outside of a few apartment complexes. I am pretty certain the new SPQ will have less density than what is pictured above
  21. ODU hosts Virginia Tech four more times through 2031 (something that can not happen if we were still in FCS), and we're now in a conference with App State and JMU. The only mistakes were heading to C-USA instead of the Sun Belt, and keeping Wilder for as long as we did. As an actual ODU fan I'm very happy we made the move cause if we didn't we'd be left behind by all of our athletic peers.
  22. I find that folks from Richmond can have an inflated sense of ego, I wouldn't pay much mind to them. ORF is a great airport and is making major improvements seeing how we both got money from the federal government for facilities improvements.
  23. Well, we've got *some* movement here at least: https://www.facebook.com/EastCoastDemo/posts/pfbid0JMZtoPeP6JTA4WYWgnByy5q7BW9HoJ16tTm37W352Ze5ik5WyE5xBs5KDJBWr9cLl
  24. Chrysler Museum's 2018 Master Plan. Seems to incorporate acquiring that and the Red Cross sites for use in future expansion. https://wparch.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/ChryslerMOA_2018CampusMasterPlan-Rev2-Web.pdf
