  1. Also I'm pretty sure it was required since if I'm not mistaken this property is on a former McDonald's and was probably part of the terms of sale
  2. Also Chorizo freaking rocks it doesn't fit as a GameDay place but go grab a bite from there at some point it's great
  3. Just go to North Colley, which is closer to ODU and both big stadiums than this project. Dirty Buffalo, Cogans, and University Pizza all give that vibe. There's also Hank's, Elation Brewing, Reaver Beach, and that new Craft place. If you must be on campus, go to hair or the dog or mojo Bones. Other good food options include Del Vecs and P Franks
  4. It's also an overhead view from a render from a proposal that was made over 2 years ago. I've attached the 3D render from the proposal. And yea, those two pronged buildings look similar. But a) since they are more interspersed with the rest of the buildings it doesn't give it that same "soviet cookiecutter" style he's so worried about, and b) is a render that probably is just a stand in for an X-square foot building that doesn't look like a cube, and probably wouldn't actually be built out in that precise manner. Mint, my man, these renderings have been here for a while, why now for this very focused concern on these buildings?
  5. You mean, you don't want buildings around the arena portion? I have no idea wtf you're trying to say here
  6. Why didn't you just take a bike?
  7. Would love all of those. I've been hoping for a Utah connection for a while. Soon after graduating college I went on a road trip out there and it was absolutely beautiful, and would love for an easy way to get back to see it all.
  8. I mean, I don't like it, and have said as much. Right now we have this, the project near Chrysler, the potential development on the Greyhound plot and the potential development on the Church parking lot and if I remember correctly none of them have street level businesses, which to coin a phrase: "sucks" It's sad that City Council is so short sighted with allowing it. I also agree, density>height. Tall buildings are 'sexier ' but getting a good use of space and higher building density is much more important. Get a good set of building plots, and tall buildings can fill in later as property values go up.
  9. It's absolutely bonkers to me that you would think that folks that live downtown don't make up a "sizeable" pedestrian user group. Sorry that I would rather make life better in Norfolk for Norfolkians, rather than more convenient for Chesapeake or VB folks. Your rapid fire absolutely wild responses really feel like they're being made in bad faith to me.
  10. Oh yea I forgot about Brambleton, if we're gonna put Waterside on a road diet we should do the same to Bramby too. Would really help connect downtown to the arts district a bit more and make it more friendly to pedestrians
  11. Did they mention a timeline at all? Love the way it looks
  12. ? It looks basically the same. Maybe this render has less of a "modern" finish on the apartment complex?
  13. So you're saying empty store fronts are good?
  14. Scotty Quix announces they will not be reopening after being forced to close by the City. https://www.wavy.com/news/local-news/norfolk/scotty-quixx-not-reopening-after-being-forced-to-close/?fbclid=IwAR0_8PKOkQDgXiDe93Forg8-chA_SfLxpJvQnhdyc1mBuTTIkuRYeaMiCvo
  15. Maybe we can add a nicer pedestrian bridge that better connects Downtown and Fort Norfolk
  16. Hard disagree there, but whatever. Still isn't "like Ghent" at all. I'd also say that "Good urban character" isn't "good urban development" since it feels like it's made more for suburbs that want to look more urban, but once again what have you.
  17. Why do people keep calling it Ghent like? Cause it has 2-4 story townhouses? Behind those houses are oceans of parking lots that ruin the urban fabric that Ghent is able to make. Think less Ghent and more Suffolk
  18. Doing that would put the road through the pedestrian walkway. Looking at the plans, right now it looks like they're going to keep arrival pickup where it is, and make a mirrored departures dropoff at the current dropoff building.
  19. That corner is facing the radio store that refused to sell their land to ODU, and right now there aren't any plans to update the parcels around it. It might not be the best look arriving north from Hampton blvd but it is the least active corner they could have chosen
  20. I'm personally surprised there aren't routes from here to Puerto Rico or the US Virgin Islands. Caribbean vacation while not even needing a passport.
  21. I don't think there's anything physically preventing us from having international flights other than an airline seeing it as a good business opportunity. I think right now the changes we need to make are more to incentivize airlines to make routes, and that's where I think the one security area and terminal improvements really help us
  22. If they wanted to bring further investment why did they do so poorly with Waterside? Like even if Waterside is just a "placeholder" they did a pretty awful job with their design and vendor selection. The best part about that place is that it has the big light-up WATERSIDE letters that look good in pictures. I'm also not a big fan of how Cordish has acted in-regards to the City, and honestly I am not really worried if a company with Cordish's temperament doesn't get the keys to keystone developments.
  23. If the third crossing can get made, hopefully Norfolk can scale Hampton Blvd down to 2 lanes each direction for the whole length of the road, and add more traffic calming infra especially near Ghent and ODU. Would also love to get some actual regional rail at some point. Doesn't have to be The Tide but being able to go between Southside and the Penninsula without a car is something sorely needed.
  24. As long as they can wrap the structures in buildings, maybe reroute the entrances a bit. The view from the south parking garage going south is fantastic and wasted on a god damned parking garage. But yea, city grid or at the very least a pedestrian path thru the middle needs to come back.
