  1. The hyperlink says "grocer" but the article title and body both say convenience store.
  2. Well, its not exactly a theater, it is a concert hall. Designed to be a great venue experience for performers and attendees alike (at least according to Gilmore). To contrast, the capacity for 20ML is larger than for DeVos Hall. DeVos is a theater, this is nothing like that. Still a blah name, and maybe it will become a HOB eventually?
  3. I would have thought they would have a digital marquee, but i guess this one is more in line with the retro style they seem to be going for. I highly doubt it is going to be a black box theater. With the long-held ambitions to make this a HOB, and with their affiliation with the HOB, I expect it to have lots of character and style. These are by far my favorite type of venues to see concerts. large crowd but intimate and with incredible acoustics. But I am also pretty confident that they will want to have the place aesthetically pleasing inside as well with their intention to hold non-concert events.
  4. I know there was mention last month that the name may change, but why would we expect a surprise name at this point? With no announcement, after going from "the venue" to 20ML, having all of their facebook ads and website 20ML and opening concerts in a week? Color me skeptical I suppose...
  5. Any chance the Hyatt Place at Byron Center and M6 rebrands with this development?
  6. Okay, this didn't really occur to me until skimming that article just now, but they are talking about having access for kayaking & boating right there at lyon...I understand that the river downtown will be a destination once the rapids are restored, but I would think people putting in and pulling out would do so in less congested spots where there might actually be places to park?
  7. No love lost from me. Went there once and was unimpressed. It was fine, but nothing to write home about. Chains are certainly viable downtown. MJLO already mentioned Friday's, and BWW is doing quite well as far as I know. It also felt like an awkward spot to me, but I suppose having plaza towers right there helps.
  8. http://www.businessinsider.com/sears-failing-stores-closing-edward-lampert-bankruptcy-chances-2017-1 Really interesting expose on Sears' CEO and how he is running that company into the ground. I didn't even make it to the end of the article, and it is very illuminating. Here's hoping that the shareholder suit bears some fruit and they can find somebody who takes their fiduciary duty seriously to try and save the company. As for Chick-Fil-A, i have only had it a few times, but I have found their food to just be better quality chicken meals than other fast-food joints. And, except for the occasional Taco or Roast Beef, I almost always prefer chicken to any other offering when I eat fast food (seldom when I am not on the road).
  9. I saw one during an open house about 2.5 years ago. They were quite spacious with high-end construction and finishes throughout. The "developers" (really just a neighborhood couple) lived across the street and talked about the project. They took a lot of pride in what they were doing and definitely made some money along the way.
  10. This is so cool to me. I never knew that those buildings were just covers of the original buildings. Will be interesting to see what the final assessment is form CWD
  11. The height would be great, but I think the view should still be good. The view from the top 3 floors of the courthouse are very good.
  12. Definitely agree there. I am not inspired by these renderings one bit. It is too bad that they couldn't find other office tenants to make a statement at this site, but it is way better than what we have been seeing.
  13. So about the same height as the courthouse. I am picturing it out my office window now...look forward to the SketchUP.
  14. I think I would end up singing the Star Wars "Imperial March" every time I go into WN&J's offices. Just has a sinister feel to it. The curved facade is a nice touch, and at least it seems like we might be breaking through the 12-story glass ceiling. Still kinda wondering what is up CWD's sleeve for downtown office space. If/when WN&J does move, they leave substantial vacancy at 5/3, with the completely vacant Calder Building and 50 Monroe (still expected to become a hotel??)
  15. Admittedly, I don't know too much about the HPC or its standards, but I would guess random sheets of metal would not survive the Commission's scrutiny. More likely to be a brick or stone facade to enclose mechanicals??
  16. Rosa Parks Circle @ Monroe and Louis. I don't know, but I can't imagine they are closed during art-prize. The lobby of the Amway Grand also comes to mind.
  17. I don't think you are reading that wrong. From driving by there on Monroe nearly every day, the seats will definitely face toward Monroe. 200 shows a year? Incredible, and I can't wait!
  18. Last year it was a food truck lot with a few smaller art pieces. I know this for a fact because last year was my first time visiting ArtPrize (for a number of reasons), and I remember having trouble deciding what to eat before finally settling on a delicious sandwich from Electric Hero. The BOB also had a mobile bar built out of a shipping container that was really cool. Maybe they can do all of that in the lot on the other side of 50 Monroe. As to the venue tower, I saw it peeking just above 50 Monroe heading south down Monroe, which was cool. Like everybody else would have loved a few extra stories. But man, walking by it on both Monroe and Fulton, what a great piece of infill.
  19. That is a great idea IMO, and could/would highlight the sculpture.
  20. This will be amazing, especially with New Holland just down the road. With all of the potential new residents, and being supported by what should be an impressive grocery, hopefully we can see Bridge St turn into a more significant and impressive retail and restaurant destination.
