Catch On was kicked out of their old location on Pecan because they were so far behind on rent. To claim the streetcar killed the business is bogus. That said, I'm sure it didn't help. Good management would have anticipated the road closure before the relocation.

Firing the guy that proved he could not be trusted with confidential info sounds like a perfectly reasonable reaction to me. There are no participation trophies when it comes to trust.

I live 2.2 miles from the center of uptown. At one point, on my daily commute, I passed 18 locations where there were two telephone poles within 5 feet of each other. Sometimes lines were moved from an old pole to a new one and the old was just left there, others, there were two poles both with lines, others, there was a leaning or broken pole and the new pole was installed to hold up the damaged pole. Can't fathom why this is allowed. It seems like litter to me. Duke Energy should be ticketed for littering our streets.

I think it has something to do with tourism/visitor info. Agree, progress is not impressively quick.

If someone is here and is willing to take the job, isn't any new job - regardless of pay - a good thing? Lower unemployment will drive wage growth. Is your argument that we are attracting population from other places by having an abundance of these lower paying jobs? If so, I guess I look at it from the personal side and assume the person moving is acting rationally and sees the job as a positive for them. So even then, I don't see how job announcements are a bad thing.

Bragging rights are great, but second or third...who cares? The ones above us are the two most expensive cities in the US. I'd say our selling point is still the low cost of doing business and that doesn't change.

I know we knew Libretto was involved, but not sure if it was previously posted, but Coaltranes Char Grill is moving in to the old John's Country Kitchen per Bizjournal. Article says it will have a rooftop! Apparently they have another location in the epicenter but I have never been.
