  3. I found a rendering "Gateway Towers" Norfolk, Va. They are twin towers and look like they would tower over every building downtown.

  6. According to Wikipedia the Hampton Roads Metro is over 1,400 square miles
  7. Raleigh metro has 1million compared to 1700000 Hampton roads. Including the triangle is like combining Hampton roads and Richmond.
  8. Quebec city has been a concern geographically. The developer wants to sell suites as an early bird special to companies only on the hrcofc as a way to thank them for their arena support but I think there is more to it and they r not telling these companies that they have interest from a pro team NBA or nhl imo.
  9. There is either a team that has committed or is highly interested and that is the reason why they are trying to sell suites before the arena gets built. Imo Hampton roads is also much larger than raleigh.
  10. Houston and Kansas city don't actually have enough of a hockey fan base and have already missed deadlines and quebec is not yet allowed to put in an application yet for an expansion team. They can only lure a relocation team right now. Governor McAuliffe also was in touch with the developers here and put a call into the commissioner of "a certain league" last year. The Florida Panthers r looking at a move as well. So we could have a relocated team. But companies don't want to buy suites at an arena that has not yet started construction unless there is confirmation of a pro team. Concerts will not be enough to interest companies looking to buy a suite. I never said vb is getting the hurricanes. Nba is not considering relocation/ expansion for a long time.

The fact that companies don't want to buy suites just for concerts and only the chance of pro and/or college sports teams playing at an arena/stadium and the fact that quebec city is interested in a relocation team (Carolina hurricanes), Las Vegas having been awarded an expansion team in June, and Seattle not being courted much and Virginia beach as the only other city showing interest tells me one thing. Virginia beach is the other expansion city or one of the expansion cities if more than 2 expansion teams. (nhl). IMO.

  14. Apparently there is some hotel being developed on princess Anne rd. in vb.
  15. I was told by someone at divaris. He said they are focusing on residential and I think hotel development. This was before the reannouncement of cityview. He made it sound like there is no development planned to be taller than the westin. The another tower comment I made may be the tower currently planned.

Last week, Virginia Beach City Council approved a deal with United States Management to build a $210M arena that would seat 18,000. “We feel confident that this market is right for an NHL team,” Andrea Kilmer, USM’s President and CEO, told The Virginia-Pilot newspaper. “We have had discussions with NHL officials themselves about this possibility, about what we are doing. Now that we have our approval, we can certainly pursue that more aggressively.” The article brings up the possibility of relocation as much as expansion, but you know how the league feels about that. According to a couple of sources, the city did request an expansion application, but did not want to spend the $2M fee to apply. Without approval for a new arena, that could have been wasted money.
