  1. Both buildings definantely beef up the skyline. When looking at this there is a huge hole in the skyline right where gateway is. Maybe the next big tower could come on a lot behind gateway plaza and be RVA's signature tower
  2. Definantely. That section of Broad will is definantely going to become a development hub once the pulse is built. What I would love to see happen is to add some more floors of apartments above the existing buildings and replacing the vacant lots with mid and high rise buildings. But with the Uphoff high rise and the future coluseum replacement, we could see development start to reach new heights.
  3. Wow great news! When do you think we will be getting more news?
  4. It also will be very visible from I64 when entering the city. That part of the skyline isn't very impressive so this should help out alittle.
  5. No that was the tower we were hoping that dominion would build. It should say that it is 20 stories and 413 feet tall.
  6. I do like the capital one idea. They have over 10,000 employees in the Richmond region so you'd think they could put at least 1500 downtown. I think that their are multiple companies in the burbs that would move downtown if the tax rate wasn't so high.
  7. It isn't confirmed that the second building will be built. It said on bizsense that they won't decide whether they will renovate the current building or build the new one. I also think that this tower looks like something you'd see in NOVA. That isn't necessarily a good thing but it does add variation from the current boxy skyline. bizsense article here: http://richmondbizsense.com/2016/05/13/dominion-to-build-20-story-tower-downtown/
  8. I was reading the "height above sea level". They really shouldn't have given its height by saying it was 506 feet above sea level. It's very deceiving and it makes it seem like dominion was trying to hide the height of their building. I also hope that dominion doesn't tear down their current building. It will be a nice contrast to the 2 modern office towers beside it.
  9. Just read an article saying that the total square footage will be 908,000. The floor plates for this building are huge(over 45,000 square feet!), don't see why they couldn't have made it taller with that square footage. However, I really like the design of the tower. It define you will stand out the the skyline and will be a good compliment to gateway plaza. Would have been nice to have had a new tallest but it's good to have density. After looking at the plans though, I'm starting to really like the building.
  10. That's not terrible I thought for a second that it wouldn't even break the 400 foot mark. Still not satisfied with the plans though.
  11. Hopefully, the one advantage I see from building a shorter tower is the possibility of a taller high rise behind it. The problem is, it couldn't be an office tower unless a large company moves here and wants their own tower.
  12. They were very misleading when first giving out the info. They made it seem like it was going to be a monumental skyscraper that would forever change the city skyline. I'm more frustrated because this was the only real chance for a REAL skyscraper to be built downtown until the vacancies have been filled( who knows how long that will be).
  13. seriously! And they said they wanted to enhance the skyline. If they really wanted to "enhance" the skyline, they would at least build a tower that would be the tallest in the city. Very dissapointed and who knows how long we will have to wait in order to get a tower that even passes the Monroe building. This is just pathetic for a company of this size.
  14. I definantely wish they were taller but I LOVE THE DESIGN!!! These buildings will definantely change the skyline for the better. Even though they aren't the 40-50 story monsters that we wanted, I still take them. Plus with the demolition of the current dominion building, it won't mean that we will have an extra vacant office building. The only thing that sucks is that we will most likely have to wait another 10-15 years for a large signature tower NOOOOOOOOOO! That's only 2 feet shorter than the VA beach Westin!!!!! Could they maybe make it 3 feet taller?
  15. Can they just finish this and build a mixed use development including a new stadium on the boulevard already?
  16. Not a fan at all of @hikendesign's description of the buildings. It's not that I don't like the eclipse design. It's more that it would take up 2 blocks when it could only take up 1. This seems like a waste of space to build 2 towers around 25 stories on 2 blocks when they could just build a taller tower or make both towers on only 1 block.
  17. I drove by the site last weekend and saw no demolition of the previous warehouse and no construction equipment. Hopefully they get started soon or else they won't meet their due date.
  18. I would love to see the new Dominion skyscraper be similar in height and design to the RSA battle house tower in mobile.
  19. It is 11 stories however I think the towers floor plates are much smaller than the proposed high rise.
  20. That is much better than I expected. And the completion date of 2018 is a very nice timeline. As previously mentioned, it would have been nice to have had a 14 story high rise, but 12 stories is still a good height. They probably could have made it much larger by decreasing the number of beds per floor. Hopefully they pull this off and don't give the city a trashy looking tower.
  21. i have no doubt that publix will buy some of the stores. However, the fate of the others are very uncertain. They could be bought out by other grocery stores or other retailers. However, who knows. I would have thought that they would have closed some of their food lion locations just because of how much smaller they were.
  22. This is incredibly good news seeing how it most likely will be passed by mcauliffe. How long it will take to actually start building is another story, however, this is great news for Richmond and the rest of the metro area.
  23. This could lead to improved rail service between rva and the northeast. http://m.richmond.com/business/article_f092ae2b-27e5-5a3c-8bba-4dda9299e78c.html?mode=jqm
