  1. IIRC the length of the old people mover caused it to be removed because it added excessive mechanical stress and lengthy and expensive repairs.
  2. As for the parking deck in the foreground it was clarified on this segment from WTKR. That deck will be dedicated to rental car parking. The rental car companies will be relocated to the adjacent building to free up prime space in the terminal. It looks like they are targeting direct flights to Canada, and the Caribbean, and have not given up on Europe. https://www.wtkr.com/news/in-the-community/norfolk/4-major-projects-could-break-ground-at-norfolk-international-airport-in-2024-ceo
  3. Here are some ground perspectives pics I took a couple of hours ago.
  4. Yes, again. This time by a wider margin. From what I understand, remarks made by a radio show host, in thee closing days of the campaign, on a station owned by the proposed casino's owner(s) did not help. It probably would have failed regardless.
  5. The City of Norfolk has received a $39.2M grant from the DOT to facilitate the rebuilding of Fairwinds Landing, located at Lamberts Point. This area is slated to become an offshore wind power logistics hub. https://www-13newsnow-com.cdn.ampproject.org/v/s/www.13newsnow.com/amp/article/news/local/mycity/norfolk/39m-granted-to-norfolk-to-fund-offshore-wind-logistics-port/291-43691192-22b4-493f-b3b2-b43a44bbd342?amp_gsa=1&amp_js_v=a9&usqp=mq331AQGsAEggAID#amp_tf=From %1%24s&aoh=16993057388066&csi=0&referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com&ampshare=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.13newsnow.com%2Farticle%2Fnews%2Flocal%2Fmycity%2Fnorfolk%2F39m-granted-to-norfolk-to-fund-offshore-wind-logistics-port%2F291-43691192-22b4-493f-b3b2-b43a44bbd342
  6. No need to get worked up over conjecture.
  7. A new Lidl grocery store has been confirmed for the Railyards project. https://www.wtkr.com/news/in-the-community/norfolk/lidl-to-be-built-in-norfolk-at-the-railyard-at-lamberts-point-project-developers-confirm
  8. If I'm not mistaken the casino referendum was for only it's current location. I could be wrong, but if so the whole thing would have to go to a vote again, and I'm not sure what it's prospects would be.
  9. Here is a pic. of prep work underway for this project taken today at 16th. and Baltic. I met a couple of friends at the Beyond Van Gogh exhibition, which was very good. We had lunch afterward at Barrel 17, my Hawaiian burger was excellent. The weather was beautiful today and it felt like a mini-vacation for me.
  10. This projects plan goes before Norfolk's Architural Review Board today at 4:00.
  11. On those kind of projects there are probably construction incentives so that tourist season is not lost.
  12. Go to Now Orleans and tell a native that Burgundy Street. is pronounced like the wine. A sideways look is the best you could hope to get.
  13. This is the norm for VB. They are anti-development, pro-agrarian (old money). Green line or not, they seem to be opposed to almost any development/progress.
  14. Thanks HRVA. I totally missed the 13newsnow link. Sounds like some good projects for "Surprising Suffolk."
  15. Any details you can provide, synopsis style, for those of us behind the paywall? Thanks.
  16. Not surprisingly, there is an awful lot of conjecture going on here. There has been radio silence on this for quite a while. I will throw another little bit of conjecture out there as well. Does anyone think it is possible that the planning with the city and the Army Corps of Engineers regarding the $2.6 B flood protection wall has had anything to do with the delays? I believe city council just approved the wall on Tuesday.
  17. City council voted 7-1 last night to approve this project.
  18. There are actually quite a few solid projects under way and soon to be under way at ODU. They include the blocks between 39th an 41st Streets which will be multi level housing, and a Publix grocery store. Also a new $176M Biology Building will soon begin where the old chemistry building was. After the current baseball season the current stadium will be renovated, enlarged and upgraded.
  19. They also left because Atlanta gave them a true sweetheart deal which was not going to be matched by anywhere else
  20. They should have added a dumbwaiter when they did the renovation.
