  1. I must say I was initially concerned looking at the renderings that we would see a continuation of the Haven stucco theme. But this rendering and the cladding descriptions suggest a much more refined look and better materials. The density of residential coming into Sobro is pretty amazing.
  2. The branding folks at the restaurant chain wanted a name that was available and could be protected with a federal trademark registration. They probably anticipated that the USPTO would not approve the use of the name of a common food item as a trademark (that usually gets rejected), so they needed something similar, but unique (also easier spelling for the customer to remember when googling the nearest). And yes, they got federal trademark protection for “Taziki’s”. Agree it’s good as chains go.
  3. Ah, see it now, thanks. But geez what a vast amount of real estate that interchange consumes.
  4. Ha, I had the same thought. And, you are correct. Here's the original Philips & Quarles version.
  5. What's up with the container? Looks like it's stuck under I-24. Might just be the angle.
  6. My goodness, TH, I’m so sorry. I’m convinced some of these unsolicited “I want to buy your house” communications are bots, but many are just opportunistic “investors” who troll for properties. The offers are insulting but even more so when you’re going through a grieving process. My condolences to you and your family.
  7. “The Arcade news: Three of the long-term tenants have been asked to stay by new owners Rob Lowe/Linfield Capital. They are Manny's House of Pizza, The Peanut Shop, and Percy's Show Shine Service. Monty's Barber Shop has decided it will relocate. Status of the Post Office is unclear.” So, not all of the tenants were asked to stay? Wonder if Manny, Peanut Shop and Percy were offered to remain at their same rent?
  8. Wait, you’re saying that’s new construction? Looks like a rehab adding a second floor on an existing warehouse, with an asphalt parking lot that goes right up to the foundation.
  9. Wow. This is a great looking project. I’ve run along this greenway for years. The little industrial business had a grove of large old hackberries behind it that were always utilized by a group of, um, day drinking citizens. I think the business owner got tired of them being there and had all the trees cut down. For a greenway, this segment has always been just an asphalt strip through an empty industrial nothing. Passing through this architecture will be a much better stroll along this portion. The rendering notes say actual greenway landscape depends on Metro. I would not count on Metro to put any effort into the greenway. Better if Metro would let Toll Bros create and maintain the landscape plan through this portion, imo. But love the project. This riverfront area is really transforming.
  10. Yikes, what happened here? Supply chain issues on getting windows?
  11. The size, placement and general lack of windows is troubling me. Perhaps an architect could have helped here.
  12. It’s an amazing upgrade that will transform the current rusting, peeling Arcade. But no way the new owners can make this level of investment without rents going up. The Arcade today, on the ground floor, is primarily a beloved lunch destination for downtown office workers with limited daytime hours. I don’t see Walgreens moving, but will the Arcade be the Arcade if Percy’s Shoe Shine, Manny’s House of Pizza, the Peanut Shop, Monty’s Barbershop, J Gumbo’s, Oriental Lunch, Jimbo’s Sushi, the Post Office and other long time tenants can’t afford to stay?
  13. Watched the Christmas at Belmont performance on PBS last night. It was held in and broadcast from the new Fisher Center for Performing Arts. The venue was simply amazing and, my god, those students are talented. Belmont really has something to be proud of with the College of Music and Performing Arts. And the Fisher Center.
  14. Does this take housing (the “H”) out from under MDHA?
  15. I love this. A definite nod to the architecture of the 3-4 story brick apartment buildings that were once ubiquitous in neighborhoods ringing the central core of American cities in the early 20th century.
  16. Some interior work going on in the downtown Arcade. Scaffolding is up to the glass roof structure. Not sure what the scope of the work will be.
  17. Picked up our daughter at the airport last night (Sunday). Traffic entering BNA was backed up nearly a mile down I-40 coming from town. No reason we could see other than holiday week volume. Just nuts.
  18. The author does realize that "average" and "median" are not the same thing, right?
  19. Agree the design flaw should have been obvious to anyone paying attention. As we all remember, though, the stadium design and construction process was super fast tracked and if there was a voice in the room saying maybe it’s not a good idea to route a public greenway through the ballpark venue, that voice was either not heard or was dismissed. But a huge thanks to Freddie for dogging this and taking steps to fix it.
  20. Kudos that they rebuilt the greenway there and will reconnect it to the existing greenway segment north of Church St. That segment now crosses Charlotte behind Capitol View up to Frankie Pierce Park. Now if we can just connect Frankie Pierce to the Cumberland River greenway spur that ends at Bicentennial Mall, you'd be able to walk, run, bike on a greenway from the Gulch to the riverfront and all the way to Ted Rhodes golf course. Still have the Metro fails where the greenway remains almost permanently closed through First Tennessee Park and Ascend Amphitheater, but working on that.
