  1. David Fox has made statements about exploring public-private options for transit, but he's pretty light on details. One thing I think Fox has in his favor is that he is the only candidate who seems to be willing to call out Metro's debt problem for the looming risk that it is. Perhaps we should start a separate thread for mayoral race discussion in the coffee house?
  2. The app suggestion is strange, not just for safety concerns but also since Google Maps offers customizable routing suggestions with travel times adjusted for traffic and TDOT's smartway system give a pretty good idea of what the highways look like.
  3. That's just down the street from BuckinghamShireTowneCastleKnightePointe, correct?
  4. Prep works seems to be starting on the old Colonial Bakery site. The big old magnolia that many folks lobbied to save has been cut down. https://www.facebook.com/colonialbakerymagnolia
  5. It is indeed a nice facility. It seems like a small thing but the cupholders on the seats are actually really cool. And the view of the moon rising over downtown is hard to beat.
  6. Right on. And with substantial new density in the intown neighborhoods, residents who call these places home should pressure their councilmembers for property tax rate decreases.
  7. All things considered I think we have a pretty good airport in BNA. I don't fly much to Asia or South America but getting to most major airports in Europe is just a 1-stop affair. The main thing I think would improve the experience for residents and visitors alike is a dedicated rail shuttle (or separate bus lane) from BNA to downtown. It's absolute Hades trying to/from there at rush hour on 440. Even the Thompson Lane way can get quite bad.
  8. Agreed on the larger aircraft. When it's windy or the pilot is feeling frisky those little MD-80s can feel kind of like riding on a kite.
  9. Oral arguments were held in January before the state court of appeals. An opinion has yet to be issued. Case # is M2014-01590-COA-R3-CV. You can listen to the recorded arguments here: https://tncourts.gov/courts/court-appeals/arguments/2015/01/22/green-hills-neighborhood-association-et-al-v-metropolitan
  10. From the TN article, quoting someone at the planning commission meeting opposed to the Bristol 12South project: "One resident even said she'd prefer the return of a drug dealer who used to live nearby when she first moved to the area in 1986." I simply don't understand that kind of thinking. http://www.tennessean.com/story/news/local/2015/04/24/south-development-denied-mat-kearney-among-opponents/26301669/
  11. New details on the previously announced Northpoint Hospitality project at KVB and 5th: 19-story tower to house 3 Marriott brands (SpringHill, Residence Inn and AC) in 455 total rooms: http://www.bizjournals.com/nashville/blog/real-estate/2015/04/nashvilles-next-skyline-addition-19-story-sobro.html

  13. Turns out Dean wants to give them $1,000,000 of city money to put in a little wing to show off Grammy statues. Apparently those things are amazing tourist draws.
  14. Brentwood city commissioners enact ban on residential in C-4 town center zoning: http://www.tennessean.com/story/news/local/williamson/brentwood/2015/03/24/brentwood-bans-residential-units-town-center/70376938/
  15. Metro Council has approved zoning for the Broadstone apartment/retail project on the site of the former Colonial Bakery on 8th. Planning had previously approved in January. When built out it will have ~330 apartment units and 71K sq ft retail, according to the Tennessean: http://www.tennessean.com/story/news/politics/2015/03/17/eighth-avenue-south-apartments-approved-objections/24939861/
  16. The old suburban-style office building at 2401 21st Ave. S. is history. Excavators are removing the rubble today.
  17. Golf carts emerge as a transportation option downtown. Interesting that this company runs on a tip-only business model. http://www.bizjournals.com/nashville/blog/2015/02/who-needs-the-amp-when-we-have-golf-carts-micro.html
  18. Anybody got any info on this? This could be the first step in revitalizing that dead stretch of 21st. The zoning on that parcel is OR20, which allows office/residential, so I don't think we would see any new retail unless a developer requested an SP. It would be nice to know if whatever replaces it will be built to the street rather than to the current suburban-style setback.
  19. You can find the site plan under the Staff Reports link here: http://www.nashville.gov/Planning-Department/Meetings-Deadlines-Hearings.aspx Metro Planning's staff recommendation is to disapprove the Specific Plan the developer has requested.
  20. Construction fencing is up around 2401 21st ave., which is an old office building belonging to the Carell family. Demo permit was pulled yesterday.
  21. Metro Planning has signed a consulting contract for an undisclosed sum of money to explore developer incentives and/or penalties to encourage "affordable housing," which for this article's purposes is defined according to housing costs as a portion of gross household income. http://www.tennessean.com/story/news/politics/2015/02/21/nashville-pursues-policy-spur-affordable-housing/23773341/
  22. That would be a great idea. That intersection is quite bad already with all the traffic going to the wedgeweood I-65 exit at rush hour.
  23. Interesting discussion on reimagining public housing to take place at Vandy on Feb. 20: http://news.vanderbilt.edu/2015/02/transforming-public-housing-subject-of-talk-feb-20/?utm_source=myvupreview&utm_medium=myvu_email&utm_campaign=myvupreview-2015-02-11
