  1. Zoom in closer and you'll also see plans for Eastside Brewing and Scoops Ice Cream! So awesome!!
  2. Yes! This is what QS1 could and should have been as far as height goes at least!
  3. As someone from Arcadia, it deserves SO much better given its location (Startex I have similar sentiments about, both for location and more personal and historic reasons). I think it picked up a little momentum with both Loft projects/the art studio and even both Dollar General and Family Dollar/Dollar Tree opening stores plus Bubba's BBQ adding to the food scene. Maybe better marketing off the Interstates and 29/Blackstock Road near the Mall? (Billboards, road signs, etc). I think once the Business 85 project is complete next year, that would be a good time for some of my ideas to come to fruition (provided the budget is there and others agree). Side note: if it can be done, I think a small park down at Fairforest Creek under the Spring St/Hayne St bridge would be amazing). Maybe another one behind the Chapman Art Studio/post office/former fire dept? I want what's best for my little mill towns/hometown!
  4. Dumb question buuut...did they actually just fix/realign the red/turning light and/or intersection/split at Asheville Hwy and Church St heading North? I felt a bit safer turning right on the arrow the last time I drove that way!
  5. Boiling Springs - a nice place to visit on the weekend, but I don't think I could be paid to live in much of that area. Inman on the other hand...amazing small, growing town.
  6. I am loving seeing this come together everytime I drive Downtown!
  7. There is also one at Fairforest Middle School on the Westside in Spartanburg School District Six (Dorman), but I'm not sure if they host public events. However, this is a VERY cool, out-of-this-world addition to our Downtown!
  8. Per the Pauline SC Community Chat group on Facebook, I am hearing that the owners of Bubba's BBQ is actually planning to build on that site - wait for it - a new fish camp. Also read about rumors of a hotel going behind Bojangle's and Zaxby's there.
  9. The donut shop may be a Shipley's Do-Nuts location. Their first in the Upstate (and SC) is in Greenwood (believe it or not) and their expansion will start with Spartanburg according to a recent article. https://www.bakemag.com/articles/15477-shipley-do-nuts-opens-first-south-carolina-location
  10. Hey Everyone! I am a regular on the Spartanburg forum and was visiting Greer one day. Their Downtown is getting more impressive by the year. I decided to make a video showing off its businesses.
  11. The Four Points at Sheraton is almost ready to go!
  12. This may belong in the Greater Spartanburg chain instead but the former Junction/Quincy's site at Hearon Circle has been sold. Anyone know what's going there?
  13. I have wondered this...I think we have five breweries (counting the two in Boiling Springs). Is it a case of NIMBYism in the county perhaps? I suspect Downtown and the City will add more overtime. I even believe growing small towns like Landrum, Inman, Woodruff, Duncan/Moore and even Lyman, Reidville and Startex will each add one (the last three because of redevelopment of old buildings/mills and new development going on in the latter three). Plus one or two in Clifton/Converse when that area develops. I've heard speculation around at least some of this as well. Maybe one in Wellford at 29/85 if the Gibbs retail/restaurant development materializes (across from Upward Star Center)?
  14. Went back that way and the former Courtyard is now a Sonesta Suites.
  15. Also, the hotel next to the former Junction/Quincy's and Hardee's and across from Mountasia/Funtasia (R.I.P.) is now a Holiday Inn (former Quality Inn & Suites).
  16. Relating to the Northside, the former Mountasia/Funtasia/Funwerks/Blessed Fun/Fantasy Island has been demolished except for the arcade, which has been sold. I wonder what could eventually go there - more fast food/restaurants, or a grocer and pharmacy?
  17. Moot point by now, but I could maybe have seen a Harris-Teeter or even Publix moving into the old Save-A-Lot. They both build urban locations (two Harris-Teeters are near Downtown Greenville, possibly at least one of them near some lower-income neighborhoods and housing), and Harris-Teeter had two successful locations through the early 2000's (the Eastside one was open since at least the late 80's). We probably lost them to one of the recessions around 2001-2002 (never knew why they left). Slightly OT, but the BI-LO on the Northside will also need replacing soon (surprised that KJ's Market hasn't or isn't going after that one). Maybe a Publix or Harris-Teeter there? Or even Piggly Wiggly? (That whole strip also needs a facelift; it's been the same facade and parking lot since 1988 with Community Cash being there a year before converting to BI-LO).
  18. I was driving near Target/IHOP (formerly IHOB) tonight, and saw where the old Compadre's Mexican Grill building was sold (this building was originally used for Symposium Cafe back in the mid-2000's). Anyone know what will be going there? Also, some sad news...Shogun recently closed its doors for good in late June after 21 years. I didn't make it there too often, but enjoyed the food and service/atmosphere every time I visited. I have not seen any signs or news indicating if the building or property are for sale yet.
  19. I just know something like this will be successful! Downtown Spartanburg could use more fast-casual and casual dining places (along with the higher-end spots, of course!) I've always thought at one point Taco Dog could open a downtown location.
  20. UPDATE: For anyone wondering about this development... Andrew's Atomic Dogs is set to open on Union Street in Spartanburg in the next 2 weeks . I got a quick peak inside and talked with the owner. He will offer free Wi-Fi in addition to great food, and it will be both a great spot for the family, friends, work lunches, and for intimate date nights. Fact: Andrew's beat Skins Hot Dogs of Anderson, SC in a chili dog tasting contest held in Greenville. ‪#‎visitspartanburg‬ ‪#‎lovewhereyoulive‬ ‪#‎onesparranburg‬
  21. Not sure if this belongs here, but does anyone know what is going on with Andrew's Atomic Dogs which is supposed to open on Union Street sometime this summer? (In the old P.K.'s) I spoke with the owner about this place back in March, and he stated that he tried a taste-test between these and Skins' hot dogs at an event in Greenville, and that people responded very well to this concept. I can already tell it has great potential.
  22. For anyone on here who liked eating here, Steak Royale (formerly Steak & Ale) off Business I-85 has closed (I was in there the 2nd or 3rd week in March so I do not know when they closed exactly). They have came back from closure before when they were Steak & Ale and the chain permanently closed all (or most) of its restaurants excepting the one in Spartanburg. The Spartanburg one did close but came back as Steak and Spirits, then later Steak Royale. They kept some of their original cooks, wait staff, and perhaps management. I do not know if there are any plans to bring it back this time. I think the location and newer/younger people here not being aware of it is what ultimately killed this great, underrated place. I hope they bring it back again - but perhaps in a better location (it was on Charisma Drive between Hearon Circle and I-585/USC Upstate, which could be difficult to find if you don't get out there often, and even then, it was still a pain to get there). If anyone has any inside information on this, I would love to hear it.
  23. I will say for sure that QT's Hearon Circle location (combined with the renovated McDonald's) makes that area look newer and cleaner. Though I do miss the old Dairy Dream. Hopefully they will make QT fit into the urban code, but it should also help the area some (maybe the hotels will actually be gone as a result).
