  1. I don't understand this "park" talk. What kind of park are you going to get in that tiny space and who would want to hang out there? Do people like hanging out next to wide, busy intersections in the shadow of a plain looking hotel and watching homeless walk by? Sounds like the worst park ever.
  2. Unfortunately I would not expect any visual impact from this stadium other than at street level. It's only about 3 stories high. Other MLS stadiums of this size (like Houston's) are not visible until you are right next to them. My guess is that you will have to know exactly where to look to catch a glimpse of it from I-4 or 408.
  3. Yes, all signs point to it being a Nintendo theme park. Universal's new land holds vast potential http://www.orlandosentinel.com/business/tourism/os-universal-land-purchase-20160205-story.html New plans for Universal's third theme park, addresses transportation concerns http://www.wftv.com/news/local/new-plans-for-universals-third-theme-park-addresses-transporation-concerns/318586973 Nintendo deal at Universal breaks new theme park ground http://www.orlandosentinel.com/business/tourism/os-universal-nintendo-deal-20150510-story.html
  4. How special does this building and 420 have to be though? They are tucked away 2 blocks back from the main drag. I like the earth tone colors on this.
  5. God I hate that gravel. When it rains the walkways become a total mess. I'd like to know the thought process of whomever chose that material.
  6. No, there won't be an exterior facing bar. There will be a ground level Heineken branded bar on the south side where people inside can see through the fence to the street, but it's only open on game day and for people inside the stadium.
  7. Yes, the site has been busy and no plans have changed for the buildings. The fight is over the re-development of Independence Lane, the street that will have the retail shops and restaurants facing it. The city tried to cut costs from the original vision and finally decided to scrap the existing plan and hire a new developer to come up with something less expensive.
  8. Maitland's leadership sucks!! These people are seriously crazy...just build the damn thing. Maitland downtown goes back to drawing board http://www.wpmobserver.com/news/2016/may/05/maitland-still-debating-independence-lane-design/
  9. Yeah, and the location of this brewery is near The Courtesy, The Woods, and Elixir...all places that cater to a more mature audience.
  10. I love LaSpada's...by far the best philly cheesesteak in town. I have visited family in Philly a few times and went to a few of the famous cheesesteak joints. To me, LaSpada's is right there with them.
  11. Ah so Miami is getting a brand new science center. Oh well, I guess we won't be best.
  12. Good news for Orlando Science Center. The $5M New KidsTown announced early last year is finally happening and construction will begin this summer. I was getting worried since there have been no updates on this. The update came in the latest issue of OSC's Scope magazine for members, so no link to the update. I think OSC is great and this project is just the beginning of their overall $30M renovation plan. We will have the best science center in the state. New KidsTown will now be complete "late 2016". Here is the original story: http://bungalower.com/2015/01/26/orlando-science-center-begins-5m-new-kidstown-project/
  13. Looks like the grocery store has been outed on page 12. It's an Earth Fare. Looking at pics of their stores online it has a full organic grocery as well as prepared food. Looks nice! https://www.earthfare.com/

    Uptown

Having lived in the Paramount where there was not concrete between the units, it was pretty bad. They definitely did not put any sort of soundproofing between units either. When I was in the living room with bedrooms creating a buffer on either side, I never heard anything next door. However, when I was in the bedroom, if my neighbor was on the phone I could literally hear every word clearly. Just terrible for such an expensive building.
  15. Yeah really. The last update I can find on this was in September: "The timetable calls for completing fundraising in 2016 with a projected ground breaking in spring of 2016 and opening in 2019." https://www.drphillipscenter.org/explore/about-the-dr-phillips-center/news/20952-two-new-major-corporate-gifts-and-phase-2-philanthropy-update-announced.stml
  16. I like the green space...unless the alternative is the museum of art. If it was a hotel or office building, I'd much rather have the green space. However, having the museum of art next to the performing arts center would really create an all-day arts destination downtown.
  17. Surprisingly, Macy's is going to survive the chopping block. Last year Macy's announced 36 stores would be closing, and that list was made public in January. Colonial is not on the list. http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/2016/01/06/macys-announces-layoffs-restructuring-after-disappointing-2015/78373358/
  18. True, and you can never have too many areas with public art. Welcome to the forum btw!
  19. Yeah, there are loads of murals around Mills 50. Like every other building has one now. This Winwood area in Miami must have them like on every side of every building.

  23. Oh ok, there was a concern at the beginning that it would indeed be like the bounce house due to the low cost. San Jose Earthquakes new stadium is all metal. However, based on the renderings I think ours will be like Houston Dynamo's stadium. I thought I read that before but I can't find confirmation of that now.
  24. It's not going to be like the bounce house. The bounce house is all metal construction. This stadium will have concrete concourses and stands. Only the underlying support structure will be metal, so there will be no foot banging on metal stands.
