  1. Is this a residual effect from the offices in NOVA? And could we see an actual office open here in HR?
  2. Regent considering going to the NCAA as a D3 program. https://www.pilotonline.com/2023/09/18/regent-university-will-pursue-ncaa-division-iii-membership-with-exploratory-phase-in-2024-25/

$500 million project in Norfolk transforming Lamberts Point area into offshore wind, shipbuilding hub. Set to bring 750 jobs. This is huge. https://www.pilotonline.com/2023/09/16/500-million-project-in-norfolk-transforming-lamberts-point-area-into-offshore-wind-shipbuilding-hub/
  4. Looks pretty ambitious. Can’t wait for the NIMBYs to force City Council to whittle it down to just one generic four-story building!
  5. I wonder how much of this was a missed deadline vs. the NIMBYs don't want anything along their beloved Strip in the offseason? Dear Audacy, move it to Town Point Park or Harbor Park...
  6. Nearly 449K passengers in August, and a hair under 3M overall for the year. It looks like 4.5M is well within reach this year, if not close to 5M! Still hoping for an international flight soon.
  7. I’ll guess something along the lines of Cinebistro in Hampton, thus bringing back the bowling aspect.
  8. I think the idea is that from street view, you want to see the buildings and storefronts, not a large parking lot. Looking at the post office site, that's a huge plot of land. Wonder if they're considering putting an arena there?
  9. Still not a huge fan of the sea of 4-story apartments but I'm happy to see this finally taking shape.
  10. Short video I shot at the construction site. I didn’t realize just how massive this project will be! 352172122_MyMovie32.mov EDIT: Here's a Youtube link so you don't have to download that file.
  11. I admit I forgot all about the North Colley corridor and was just thinking about this development, but that makes perfect sense. And it's within walking distance for most students. Haven't been to Chorizo in forever so that's gotta change soon.
  12. I hope they bring back the bowling alley or something for the nightlife. I dunno if there's even any restaurants or sports bars...ODU has Monarch Grille in the ground floor of the hotel next to The Ted, but they really need a true campus sports bar where you can watch the game or go afterwards to celebrate/drown your sorrows.

Can't really blame that on the city...the Great Recession killed that one. It's unfortunate how many projects died because of economic circumstances: GT was due to the recession, Gateway Tower next to City Hall and the hotel at MacArthur went under during the pandemic. That said, I do wish Norfolk would propose more towers and get this arena built. The last major project we had in downtown proper was The Main...six years ago.
  14. Agreed. You don’t have the space for yet another generic 4-story building. I’m not saying build the tallest tower in Norfolk but use your limited space to build vertically.
  15. I have to remember this is a family forum and choose my words carefully, but why is it so difficult for this city to make a decision on ANYTHING? Two dead malls, a downtown that’s a shell of its former self, and nothing but lip service left and right. You kick paying tenants out and offer no replacement. You want a new arena but won’t pull the trigger. Same song and dance for the last 25 years. You want light rail to go somewhere but keep wasting everyone’s time with study after study. It really shouldn’t be this complicated. [Go number 2] or get off the pot and stop talking a big game if you won’t back it up. You wonder why the city won’t grow, it’s because you’re all talk and zero action.
  16. Anytime! I live not far from there so next time I'm out that way I'll try and remember to get a picture or a closer look.
  17. I believe another strip mall similar to the one that just opened on that side of Volvo.

Some people on IG complained about the height relative to the rest of the block, but it’s not that far fetched. The gray building in the foreground is next to Granby Theater. The proposed condos would go in the space I circled so I don’t think it would stand out too much.

Coming to 439 Granby St... https://www.facebook.com/VIAdesignNorfolkVirginia/posts/pfbid026tpLPmJQb7gGARv1oVCZTmQVLJQyJYsCJHg4LHa1GoGgpQiwjwpYcvYcen1d8d8xl The design is a bit odd for that space, but you wouldn't be able to put much there anyway.
  20. It’s time to tell AH to put up or shut up. Either invest more in your backyard or the city needs to find a new company to do business.
  21. Surprise. Barbara Henley and Rosemary Wilson are against something.
  22. 466K in July. Do I see a 500K month in our future? https://www.facebook.com/100064864414191/posts/pfbid0vn8mJyYoULysqAUCrHYnkZZisAsz1LvWASf8fkfe69NsaW26c4zbz4qRbAmDCqsSl/?mibextid=K8Wfd2
  23. I’m not against a VA hospital, but I’d put it somewhere in the new Sentara developments off Kempsville, or at JANAF given the military connections there.
  24. I think we get one but it’s not Headwaters. It’s just been too much BS from these snake oil salesmen. Better question, which do we get first: the casino or the arena? Bonus question: what year does it finally get completed? Place bets now!
