  1. Here’s a update on 100 n main announcement. One of the largest question marks hanging over Downtown Memphis is the future of the abandoned 100 N. Main building, the tallest building in Downtown. Young said a preferred bidder will be identified by the end of the year and that finalist will be announced at the first Downtown Mobility Authority meeting of 2022 — a date for which has not yet been set. DMC earlier this year narrowed the list of bidders from 11 to six and officials have been interviewing the six finalists in November and December. “When we go to the Downtown Mobility Authority, we will go to them and we will be recommending to the board that we enter into exclusive negotiations with this developer,” Young said. "That will trigger exclusivity so that that developer can go and do their due diligence, spend money on different types of studies and really put together a firm development agreement that leads to the building being redeveloped.” He added future development would not just include the 37-story tower, but the entire city block, including the parking garage, surface parking lot and the other structures along Main Street.
  2. The New York-based hotel company broke ground on an 888-room, $550 million hotel and convention center space in Arlington, Texas last week. The hotel and convention center space is Loews' second project in Arlington. Both are part of a burgeoning entertainment complex around Globe Life Field and AT&T Stadium. The groundbreaking, often a point of no-return for development firms, is the latest sign of the hotel and resort company's continued recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the company has yet to update its plans for a 20-plus story hotel across from Memphis City Hall on Civic Center Plaza.
  3. There is a lot of Reason to doubt the Lowes proposal. Here’s a link. https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.commercialappeal.com/amp/8468743002
  4. Yea I wonder if we can do a public record request for all 6 proposals would love to view them in detail. As far as Lowes goes it’s getting to the point that I’m doubtful they will move forward.
  5. Yea apparently the developers believe demolishing those building and building new is the right move. On the DMC state of downtown video Carlisle group has some sort of education plan for that site not sure if that’s a charter school or something else. It will be interesting to see what comes about and what development plan gets approval.
  6. 100. N main is a pivotal building for downtown Memphis if done right with the right mix of hotel/ office/ retail/ residential it could be a game changer. It’s time to do something special there. Lowes has been dragging its feet when it comes to civic plaza plan not sure what’s going on or if they will still break ground, but adding a Hotel @ 100 N main would be a great addition. I like lowes and hope they follow thru, however a JW Marriott inside 100 N main would be amazing. Just my rant
  7. What I would love to see is a WNBA franchise along with hockey as primary tenants @ MSC. This development has all the right infrastructure to support a WNBA franchise/ 2 hotels/ dining/ entertainment/ office/ retail/ tourism. The W has made it public they intend to expand and Memphis should get in the game to land a team liberty park is perfect for the return of Hockey also. Hoops city & hockey. Also as far as the creative arts building they should move the Memphis sports HOF there it would add to the game day experience for tourists and locals alike . All those that agree with Having a WNBA franchise please sign and share. https://www.change.org/p/wnba-commissioner-cathy-engelbert-bring-wnba-to-memphis
  8. This is an amazing rendering. Love the glass skin. Hmm JW Marriott maybe??? Would hope this comes to fruition renderings sometime alter once u get into the numbers and build out of a project. Let’s hope if they are chosen it stays close to what’s pictured. Once this is finalized Maybe DMC can start bidding for Sterick
  9. Mayor Strickland has committed 4 million to help with upgrades, however if we want a world class venue it will take more. Here’s a look at what Huntsville Is doing. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.rocketcitynow.com/amp/article/news/local/orion-amphitheater-huntsville-alabama-opening-lineup/525-58cb057f-d71b-4b13-996c-5b62a44b25bb
  10. Those pics are amazing. I worked there years ago. This is a complete retrofit. Distillery district?? Wow. Memphis is definitely turning around. Love the new look. Hope we continue to draw new airlines too. The spirit announcement was cool, now let’s get Jet Blue!! I don’t think your overthinking travelers like things to enjoy while waiting so they may chose a route thru Memphis as opposed to another city. The big thing is to have a light rail from airport to downtown that’s the money move. Not sure it will happen but it’s ok to dream.
  11. Yes soccer specific stadium is more than likely the next stadium discussion for our city aside from LB / MSC. renovations. USL has a mandate that all teams have soccer specific stadiums by 2025 or a path to financing one by then. Much has been mentioned about the 13acre+ CA site also the Vance/Hernando site as future fut’bol stadium site for 901 fc. It’s going to be interesting to see the plans, design and site location. I hope for something like this https://www.spectorgroup.com/project/under-armor-stadium-and-long-island-soccer-academy-complex/
  12. Good question about the tram I too would like to see it return in a more modern design and also the overpass bridge be redeveloped into a more pedestrian friendly path that would make the proposed elevator more enticing for people to use. Something like the New York hi line would be a good blue print. With art work/ benches (charging stations) drinking water. Scooter stations plants etc. here’s a look. https://www.metalocus.es/en/news/highline-new-york-phase-ii The Mayor has stated it’s his top priority in 2022 also he is asking the state & Viking & American steamboat for funds to make it a reality. Last he made it clear if state say no city will find the funds somewhere, he has council support and I believe this will happen. Just my opinion
  13. Jet Blue is the catch for MI hopefully we can reel them in in 2022 non stop to Boston & New York flights
  14. Yes I watched the video. Love the lake and Ferris wheel. This will greatly enhance our RiverFront.
  15. Yea I have driven by that site near wiseacre. It’s certainly enough land there. Yes it’s closer to Beale st than CA and also right @ SMain. I can see why that would be considered. If I had to guess it’s probably close to 20-30 acres in total. That’s enough land mass to build a nice sss plus parking. My question about that site would be ingress & egress the streets would have to be widened to accommodate 8-10,000 fans and also 14-18,000 fans @ FedEx forum 901 fc and Grizzlies have games scheduled same day sometime-traffic management would definitely have to address @ that site. CA site could manage traffic better IMO however I do like the Wiseacre number of acres better to accommodate parking.
  16. It’s a nice stadium. Big too MLS 30,000. I would like to see us stay with a downtown sss. Close to Beale ,definitely a canopy with beer garden etc. let’s see what Tim Howard and the rest of 901 fc come up with as far as location & design. Good luck to Nashville, but I’m definitely Memphis.
  17. Ok I see that, but keep in mind the walk on union has two hotels going up. Tempo and embassy suites also the walk offers new apartments and walk up ticket sales to game. btw Parking is available behind CA 450 spaces right behind and also the walk will provide additional parking. As well as the lot @ union 4th
  18. True. They are subsidized by NBA. Let’s see what happens in near future with their expansion plans. Houston, Philly, Toronto and Oakland appear very interested. My guess is Nashville won’t make the cut no NBA affiliation not a true basketball city and they are almost oversaturated with NHL, NFL, MLS and pushing for MLB. I understand how they have grown as a city I applaud that, however WNBA will not flourish in a city with no NBA partner to aid with sponsors, marketing & cross promotions. Just my opinion on that.
  19. Memphis is Hoops City!! And with the new liberty park campus under construction WNBA would be a welcomed addition @ MSC. They play during summer once NBA (Grizzlies) are done. That midtown campus will have all the surrounding infrastructure to support a WNBA franchise. 2 hotels/ entertainment/ retail/ tourism/ Vacant arena ready for reuse. What really needs to be looked @ is ownership group for potential franchise. If Pera takes a interest that could help dissolve the non compete issue and set the stage for a redevelopment of MSC. Please sign and share if u support WNBA in Memphis https://www.change.org/p/wnba-commissioner-cathy-engelbert-bring-wnba-to-memphis liberty park campus https://images1.loopnet.com/d2/Axujlw02BXlGdznabyAqBqCCCm04dLqdNJzUcFqSxig/document.pdf
  20. Memphis would make a great NFL city. I disagree strongly with other post about no chance because Nashville has a team. Relocation is a real possibility if we are able to get city leaders on board to build a New stadium. That’s the reality teams move cities because of stadiums. Jaguars, Bills, Bengals are all teams we should keep an eye on for future relocation. Your only really talking 8 home dates (regular season ) certainly there is enough disposable income in our metro along with Arkansas, Mississippi to fill a 50,000 seat stadium for 8 dates. I say 50,000 because that’s the word now that the NFL is pushing towards smaller stadiums with more suites https://www.google.com/amp/s/profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2021/11/16/expansion-to-40-teams-isnt-as-crazy-as-it-sounds/amp/ . Everyone that’s in agreement with the merits that Memphis can and should support a relocation franchise please look and sign. https://www.change.org/p/mayor-jim-strickland-memphis-city-council-shelby-county-commission-actively-explore-bringing-an-nfl-team-to-memphis
  21. I completely agree with West -Northwest view to be able to see the amazing skyline, I would hope for something a little more that what charlotte did with memorial stadium that design suck. I hope for something with a canopy around it. Here’s a example : https://www.spectorgroup.com/project/under-armor-stadium-and-long-island-soccer-academy-complex/ Or this https://www.forbes.com/sites/ianquillen/2021/05/20/the-usl-is-experiencing-a-soccer-stadium-boom-its-real-estate-chief-explains-why/
  22. Interesting ideas for mud Island. 901 fc will have to address their stadium situation soon. As USL president Jake Edwards makes it clear part of being a franchise member is to have a soccer specific stadium for all franchises by 2025. Covid may have given some grace time 2026 to current franchises. I’m sure this was discussed and agreed to prior to bringing a franchise to Memphis. With 13 acres and adjacent property being also available for parking/Academy / office uses. CA site is perfect. It’s proximity to Brass door/ high cotton Brewery/ Ravine/ Memphis Made. Makes it a prime location for SSS. I can see it fitting well in the Edge To help continue the revitalization of that area. A rising tide to lift all boats. Good ideas about Mud Island but I’ll be honest I see Bass pro working behind the scenes to redevelope and manage mud Island it’s right in their backyard. And I think we all know the weight they carry with the huge success they have with Big Cedar lodge/ wonders of wildlife etc. look for it to be revealed in 2022 about their plans for the island. https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.commercialappeal.com/amp/90524626
  23. Agreed! Soccer specific stadium is the best concept. Especially when u consider high cotton brewery/ Memphis made across the street also it could be an anchor for further edge redevelopment. A rising tide to lift all boats.
  24. It’s a good possibility that Bass pro could be working behind the scenes on a Mud Island redevelopment plan. They have expressed interest in the past and it sits in their backyard. Wouldn’t surprise me @ all if they become the private investor/ operator of the proposed Aquarium and other uses on mud Island Big cedar lodge and wonders of wildlife is hugely successful. https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.commercialappeal.com/amp/90524626
