  1. The Fountains @ civic Plaza would be a nice touch to a hotel development plan,
  2. Let’s hope they can get another plan similar to the lowes plan for that site. A full service 500 room hotel
  3. This would be cool, civic hotel @ civic center plaza.
  4. Now that’s it official that Lowes will not be building, what should happen @ civic center plaza?? Obviously the city would like to land a project there after clearing the trolley stop and putting together incentives to attract a hotelier. There are definitely other brands besides Lowes who would take interest in the site so close to convention center. I personally would like to see the city pursue a luxury hotel brand JW Marriott. Sheraton was interested in building a 300 room JW at there current footprint. I would imagine that civic plaza would allow them more space/ room to build a bigger JW. Here’s a look
  5. Yea I hear that. I would hope civic plaza is still in play for large full service hotel. I for one wanted to see the historic police station a part of Hotel plan it’s about 130,000 Sf and could give additional meeting space/ restaurant/ bar space and parking whoever bids on the site should include that property in their design. Would love to JW Marriott @ that site. Peabody is ready for 100 million dollar renovation and let’s see if Sterick will be in play for a large full service hotel we have time 2026 is 4 years away, that gives the city time to continue to work on infrastructure and hotels. On a side note JW does historic renovation that could bode well for police station on adams. https://www.georgiatrust.org/preservation-awards/plant-riverside-power-plant-rehabilitation/
  6. Yea we put on for game day I would expect even better for all star. As we continue to build up our infrastructure downtown we will definitely draw more major events.
  7. Yes exactly I agree, also great entertainment connected to FedEx forum (Beale st) footsteps away, along with Overton square as another entertainment option. I believe Memphis can really put on for all star weekend and rival other cities with what we have to offer, I plan to go to Neworleans next year for all star weekend to see what a city has to do to put on a great all star weekend.

  9. Sorry. Here’s a summary Like Memphis, Salt Lake and Indianapolis rank among the bottom-third in the NBA in market size. But that's not the chief concern when selecting an All-Star Game host. So what will it take to make Memphis an All-Star destination? Doing so is easier said than done. When FedExForum was first built as the Grizzlies' home arena, it was in consideration to host an All-Star game, but the NBA wanted at least 5,000 hotel rooms in the downtown area solely for league officials. Memphis couldn't meet that requirement, so it offered shuttles from Tunica, Mississippi, to offset the shortages. Memphis didn't get the All-Star bid. Memphis still falls short of the NBA's requirement in downtown with a downtown hotel capacity of 3,500 to 4,000 rooms. The league would want additional large full-service hotels like the Peabody and Sheraton, and other All-Star cities have displayed these in larger numbers. Sacramento and Oklahoma City are other cities that have faced similar issues as Memphis landing the game. The article points out Kevin Kane and others are excited about the possibility of pursuing all star weekend. 2026 is the next available date for a city to host, I believe by then we should have 5,000-6,000 room capacity in the downtown area, also liberty park should be completed by then as well as the waterfront district cruise ship passengers, 100N main, and hopefully civic plaza will have a large hotel in place. The future looks bright for us to host by 2026

  11. Very Nice design. I would hope DMC and city would work quickly to bring in another developer for that same site. One thing to consider is that maybe Sheraton would consider a build out on that site. They expressed interest in building and additional 300 room JW Marriott one of the issues was land size and acquisition of an adjacent lot. This site on civic plaza is now available so opting to build there could be less complex only thing is they need to go from 300 to 500-600 but a JW Marriott would be amazing right there and also the first in city. Maybe Lowes could do a different Lowes live! Type hotel 300 rooms in another location like the MLGW site if the city can ever get the ball moving on relocating them.
  12. I agree with your sentiment for new leadership. Paul young IMO was a good hire for DMC and I believe he will work to create changes in downtown development. Kevin Kane needs to be replaced with someone with fresh ideas
  13. Your talking about this group. Block Sunflower https://downtownmemphis.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/5.-Block-Sunflower_100-North-Main_Redevelopment-Proposal.pdf
  14. It’s not a bad site for them to consider right next to convention center + it’s in the burgeoning N/S main district and not that far from Beale st. I do understand wanting that clipper site (FedEx forum) close proximity and Beale footsteps away. That may not be achievable @ this time land cost there is very expensive it’s prime real estate. But let’s see what happens just hope it gets built soon somewhere downtown/ pinch area.
  15. How about talking with Blue Note LLC about developing the blues note hotel there would be an amazing addition to the convention center especially if they up the number of rooms @ 100 n main
  16. No shock, they moved forward in Arlington with the live! Project knew then something was amiss, It was very smart on DMC behalf to purchase 100 N. Main and move forward on a hotel development plan for that building while Lowes was deliberated on what they should/ could do. Grand Hyatt is in the making that’s a plus, hopefully Sheraton can move forward on a interior/ exterior/ JW Marriott rebranding hopefully with glass enclosed exterior like the Carlisle design of 100 N main.
  17. Been hanging out in the edge district the last two days, stopped in @ chef tam’s on union great vibe & food, also stopped in @ Arnold’s BBQ souther comfort burger and atmosphere was great. Been really checking out all the building for lease/ sale that area has a vibe and is primed to take off real soon, I understand the organic growth pattern I hope they can build on the music history in the edge and bring back some Memphis legends. 1) Blues alley/ classing room 2) Memphis sounds 3) Dizzy Bird.
  18. Cruise line arrivals push waterfront plans Looks like the city has big plans for the cruise industry in Memphis. Mayor wants more docking facilities and dam up a section of Wolf River Harbor to create a lake. I think this would be big for the city. Quote: The first docking at Memphis for Viking Cruises will be at the end of June — one of six Memphis-to-New Orleans or New Orleans-to-Memphis river cruises this year billed as “Heart of the Delta.” Three of the eight-day cruises, each with five guided tours, were sold out as of Friday, Jan. 28. Viking Cruises joins American Queen and American Cruise Lines in the Memphis market, and in the Mississippi River overnight cruise business. Mayor Jim Strickland is pushing for $26.6 million in funding to expand the boat dock at Beale Street Landing and add another cruise boat landing in Greenbelt Park on the Mississippi River side of Mud Island. https://dailymemphian.com/section/me...terfront-plans I’m hoping they can get the funding this project needs to happen
  19. I agree, new daisy is perfect for HOB. I have emailed live Nation a few times asking them to consider a HOB on Beale st, @ New daisy let’s hope they want to come here it just makes so much sense.
  20. Interesting, I have long been an advocate for a house of blues on or near Beale st. I understand the organic growth and as a native Memphian I do see how we have grown over the last 20 years. We need more it doesn’t have to be cordish but we do need a live! Type development much like what DSG is doing in the edge with the ravine. Memphis has soul we need to build on that and continue with our music heritage.
  21. Ok I can see those areas, we definitely need another major entertainment district in the downtown/ pinch area. Would love to have options outside of Beale st/ Overton square something like the Cordish live! Developments would do well here. We are trending towards having more big events, hotels are done or being developed we need to add to our entertainment options. https://www.cordish.com/
  22. Love the video. It’s my vision that the edge can become another entertainment district, that gives citizens and tourists another option to eat, drink and play. If we are going to pursue major events ie NBA all star weekend we need to be able to accommodate the demand for entertainment from visitors and also give residents those staycation options. I think edge could be that option. Would love to see a fourth st live type of development take place there. https://www.4thstlive.com/
  23. Yes we have done a great job of adaptive reuse projects, crosstown concourse, chisca, Peabody place, Gibson guitar etc. let’s hope this momentum keeps up and a preservation developer comes up with a master plan for Sterick (Queen of the south)
  24. After years of sitting abandoned, pieces of the façade intermittently raining down onto the sidewalk, a new life is on the horizon for Memphis’ tallest building. The Downtown Memphis Commission’s Downtown Mobility Authority on Wednesday agreed to enter into exclusive negotiations with a local development team that has presented a $267 million vision to radically transform 100 N. Main. Development group 100 N. Main Development Partners, which includes Kevin Woods, Billy Orgel, Jay Lindy, Adam Slovis and Michael McLaughlin, hopes to make the property a neighborhood anchor with a hotel, apartments, restaurants, retail and office space, as well as additional parking. e developers, public officials and Downtown business owners, hope the project will go beyond simply breathing life back into the derelict property, but can also energize that part of Downtown. Activating the space, they say, could mean new development, redevelopment, and new business offerings in the surrounding blocks, even before a redeveloped 100 N. Main opens. Only a few blocks away is the recently remodeled, $200 million Memphis Renasant Convention Center, from which conference attendees will walk to Downtowns bars, restaurants and hotels, often passing 100 N. Main, said Brett Roler, DMC vice president of planning and development. “Blight weakens the tax base and discourages new investment. Downtown is our brand to the world. We know that this building damages that image as an attractive place to live, work, visit and invest,” he said during the DMA meeting. “This is a prime opportunity here to transform a community liability and reposition it back as a neighborhood anchor.” Memphis is open for business' DMC President Paul Young said acquiring the 100 N. Main property, an entire city block that includes not only the tower but also a parking garage, surface parking lot, small dog park and several other structures along Main Street, was one of the most ambitious things the organization had ever taken on. Work won’t start right away. The exclusive negotiations give the development team the time to do further due diligence and studies on the property with the knowledge the DMC isn’t negotiating with any other developers. I absolutely loved the Carlisle design. However when u really look @ the cost of the project glass may have been thrown out. The building qualifies for roughly 34 million in historic tax credits but u have to keep the exterior as close to original as possible. So yes the glass look was awesome but would not pencil in the end.
