  3. Edit: I replied to a really old post by accident! Great shots, Spartan.
  4. There's a Tako-Sushi in greenville...found the menu online. I think it may actually be pretty good.
  5. It's that time of year again... World Beer Festival, January 16 2010
  6. You know you're becoming a big city when you have hot dog vendors! Well, not quite. But still an article that made me happy: http://www.thestate.com/local/story/1061250.html?RSS=local

So I'm still on the USC Engineering Mailing list, and I got this interesting email today:

Oh, sorry, I wasn't saying the equipment is related to the TIF. I was just pointing out that's what they have funding for, since I just saw the article today. I'm as curious as you are as to if the equipment means progress on Horizon II or Discovery II.

Indeed they don't. They apparently will, however, have the money to improve the infrastructure in the area: http://www.free-times.com/index.php?cat=19...011310092294580
  11. I want to buy that pop-up book.
  12. It looks like Columbia could be seeing WiMax in the very near future - ETV's old analog bandwith has been leased to two companies. http://www.thestate.com/breaking/story/948...ml?RSS=breaking
  13. Pastides gave a "State of the University" Address yesterday afternoon. Here's the direct link to the speech: http://www.sc.edu/specialevents/stateoftheuniversity/ And here's the summary of what he talked about: http://www.sc.edu/news/newsarticle.php?nid=454
  14. Compared to other 'urban' campuses, USC does quite well with parking. Well, if students used the commuter lots, that is, rather than trying to cram an army of cars into the garage closest to their next class.
  15. I wouldn't think so...but USC does have a disproportionately large number of Freshman bringing cars, most likely attributed to the combination of a large in state population and the abundant availability of parking. I was merely suggesting that by limiting the number of cars on campus, not only would the university be able to free up some real estate, but it would also increase the ZipCar user base.
  16. In order for USC to support a service like this, more students would need to live closer to or on campus, and the University would have to start actively discouraging students from bringing cars. As it stands right now, I feel like the vast majority of students bring cars with them, which would make ZipCar somewhat redundant.

The board is meeting today to decide his fate and Roscoe's buyout: http://www.thestate.com/breaking/story/933243.html
  18. Yeah...The colors on it are quite dated and don't match the rest of the university at all.
  19. The view from my condo at The Gates:

That made me laugh. I drive by there every day, and that pretty much sums up what has happened.
  21. It's supposedly just for mobile devices, which would make the site passable. It could still use some work though (I'd recommend The State's mobile site for inspiration) However, if anyone looks at the site from the computer, they're definitely not staying here.
  22. HAHA, yeah, it was Conan...although there was also a Kronak the barbarian: http://www.marvunapp.com/Appendix3/kronakthebarbarian.htm I got bored one day and started doing random searches online.
  23. Cupcakes! A new store on Lincoln Street in the Vista is bringing the national cupcake trend to Columbia. Kristin Kuhlke, who started her first cupcakes-only store in Charleston three years ago, plans to open Cupcake in mid-August, across from the Blue Marlin restaurant. http://www.thestate.com/101/story/867381.h...nk=omni_popular
  24. I totally agree with you. I lived in University Oaks for a year, and realized how much happier I was in The Lofts at USC Whaley's Mill.
  25. This Article in the Free Times talks about how the economy has created a glut of on campus housing at USC, which I totally disagree with. I'd argue that glut is largely attributable to the plethora of new off campus housing available now, and the willingness of students to pay a premium for said off campus units.
