  1. I doubt right now they can. I think the ones that are around are having a tough time, at least that what I hear.
  2. Dude, you realize how underpasses work. They took the existing railroad tracks and built a road under it. They dug a hole deep enough so a truck could pass through it. I'd imagine that the water level is higher than the lowest point in the underpass. They have to have drainage of some type otherwise each time we get an inch of rain it will flood. When you get on the other side of the underpass the river is practically right there.
  3. I'm curious as well to the drainage. I would hope they would open the railroad crossing in that case so people can still get in an out.
  4. I went and checked out the underpass, am I the only one that thinks its strange that the lowest part of the underpass isn't under the railroad bridge. It's about 20 feet after it (on entering the property).
  5. I work in the area so I think any improvement would be awesome.
  6. I know a coworker of mine saw the google streetview car on Tigerbend in early March. He drove beside it for about a mile waving and trying to get on camera haha.
  7. ^^^^ That's exactly it, I love the area. It has a lot of good history, a lot of good culture, but with a baby due in June my priorities are starting to change in life.
  8. Truth be told, the job I have in BR will be my last one in BR, before I take another job in BR my wife and I will move and leave the area. We are tired of the backwards thinking, each parish for itself mentality. We are tired of a lot of the local companies being run by idiots who have no clue how to grow a business into the 21st century. We are tired of the lack of foresight with developments. I'm fine with parishes approving single entrance subdivisions. Though not perfect, there obviously is a market and the demand for them since they keep getting built. But why the parish won't demand a developer to add turn lanes and improvements to the road because of the extra traffic they will generate is beyond me. Why when they approve 5,000 lots of single family homes within a mile of Hwy 42 and not have the foresight to widen the road and instead have the traffic be horrible for 5 years before saying ge, i guess we should widen this road. Or why they are only paving 6 lanes on I10 and I12 instead of saying, while we are at it, why don't we do 8.. Even if we only strip 3 until we can widen it in other parts lets have *gasp* foresight to know it won't be enough even on day one is beyond me.. Where we would move I have no idea (Austin, Charlotte, etc), but as a software developer, i'm sure within the next 2-3 years I'll be ready to move onto the next job, life of a programmer I guess...Unless I have a compelling reason to stay, such as a big promotion I don't see this path changing. Sorry for the rant.
  9. I agree with cajun, I'd love to live in the city again, but won't until those issues are addressed. Crime and School's being number 1a and 1b.
  10. I agree, this is all a pipe dream until crime is under control.
  11. It would be awesome to have some towers on both sides of the interstate, give it a true city feel as you drive through.
  12. They will have a "Security" person collecting money if they charge, if they don't charge I doubt they have anyone anyway. I wouldn't worry about it and I'd feel safe provided it is light at night. I don't know of many if any parking garages without lighting. I would even support parking garages at the Mall of LA in certain areas. They work very well for Lakeside Mall and Clearview Mall in Metairie.
  13. yeah, i highly doubt they have a security staff to watch over the parking garage.
  14. The Hornets since Katrina are actually averaging a decent amount of fans. They always pick up the average after football season is over. This year is down partly because everyone going into the season thought they would suck. The Hornets actually have the highest renewal rate for existing season ticket holders this spring. New Orleans is capable of supporting the Hornets. 2009 was by far the best year, averaging a couple hundred under a sell out. This year is down, but at 14800+. If we are supposed to be embarrassed by the Hornets attendance then what about Minnesota, Memphis, Philadelphia, New Jersey, Sacramento, and Indiana who all lag behind the Hornets. I give Sacramento a pass but Philly isn't exactly a small market. The main issue is that the lease with the Hornets needs to be reworked into a long term deal. The NBA wants the Hornets here, otherwise they would have accepted Ellison's offer to move them to Anaheim or what's his face to move them to Seattle. Seattle will never be an NBA market until the resolve their arena issues. Anaheim is going to have an uphill battle to get a team since they will have to get waivers from the Clippers, Lakers, and Warriors for moving into their existing territories. Kansas City, though having a nice arena is too saturated for the NBA to seriously consider. The new arena in Louisville may be considered, however they are a college town and many believe we'd have a Memphis situation again. Most likely the Kings will move to Anaheim, but I don't expect any other moves to happen. The NBA Model is as stated a disaster. That needs to be fixed or a 1/3 of the teams will go bankrupt. The Hornets again are usually picked on, but if you take the expenses of Katrina, and the previous owners personal debts out of the equation they actually do break even. However since the owner was broke and the team had some debt to Katrina, we get lambasted and placed in line with the other 1/3 of the league that is in debt.
  15. I was thinking hypothetically one day in 40 years the hornets would need a new stadium and it would be possible that BR then would be the better location. By then I'm hoping we are thinking more regionally versus us versus them.
  16. MLB has AAA, which is what the Zephyrs are, AA, which I believe is what this proposed team would be A, which is usually in smaller cities around 100k. Within AAA there are many leagues, the Zephyrs are part of the Pacific Coast League. Think of them as the NL vs AL. They also have many independent leagues, leagues in Mexico and a variety of countries. Of all the pro sports in America, Baseball has by far the largest and most elaborate farm system. The NBA is trying to mimic it starting with NBA-DL, NFL tried with NFL-Europe. http://en.wikipedia....league_baseball I'm not against this, however, I am against the location. I see no reason why BR couldn't put down the LSU glasses and get on board a pro sports team. There is a lot more money involved with pro sports and you don't have to make massive contributions to TAF to buy tickets to a game. I doubt BR could support a MLB team right now, but with population gains one day the market may become viable. Having a minor league team in the area is the first step with this process. Who knows, if the population keeps shifting this way one day we may be cheering on the Baton Rouge / Louisiana Hornets or a MLB team (more likely)..
  17. They decided to switch their farm team to (I think) Round Rock (Austin) Texas. A lot of people in the area are Astros fans so it worked very well. I remember going to UNO for the games during the summers and the place was almost always packed. a lot of people went because they could see their favorite teams stars of tomorrow, now you get Florida Marlins players which most people including myself could care less about the Marlins. They have been bounced around MLB being a farm team of the Brewers and Mets in the past separating two different times being the Florida farm team.
  18. A) the zephyrs are in the bottom third of PCL teams, averaging 5600 for 2010. We have a AAA team but drawing closer to a AA team. Granted the team has sucked of years past but I remember a couple years ago attending playoff games with only 3k in the stadium,,.... for a playoff game! We used to draw very high however after the Astro's no longer were the parent team the attendance started to diminish. B) The area immediately around the stadium (ie. Saints Practice Facility and Zephyr Field) are nice however the surrounding area is very run down. Personally I love going to the games and do go to about a dozen games a year, however, some individuals I talk to do not bother because of aforementioned reasons. The areas around it do look a little rough and run down. It doesn't mean you are not safe, right or not, "old and rundown" has that stigma about it.
  19. I think a lot of the issues with the Zephyrs drawing well is it's in Southern Louisiana, outside, in the summer and also the location. The area of town is very run down and to a lot of people they won't go just because of where it's at.
  20. If it were built off of juban or even walker I could see it working out, otherwise it will be too far of a drive for people to bother showing up.

The vision was released yesterday, thoughts??? http://www.2theadvocate.com/news/Vision-builds-on-existing-strengths.html?showAll=y&c=y
  22. Yes, but like others have said, I think they need to reconsider the location. They also need to pass a tax to finance the stadium.
  23. They have my house after i put the fence up. actually, they have most of my neighborhood. Best I can tell, the photo's were taken in November.
  24. As a resident of Ascension, near where the bottom of this toll road will be, the only way I support this is if 42 and Walker Road are widened. I know 42 they are doing studies and will start sometime in 2012.. but if they don't do Walker Road right along with it then what's the point.
  25. I don't have a link, but Panera Bread is planning to open a location in Baton Rouge. They are still scoping out a location but expect to have it open in 2011.
