  1. It would be a good place for a corporate headquarters of some type.
  2. There is so much ugly asphalt in that area, much of it not used for anything that they can build there for a very long time.
  3. Its always about keep Richmond empty. The above post states what is going on very well. It looks like Stoney smarten up and is tying this to a property tax reduction.
  4. Everytime I see an aerial of this area. Its just unbelievable how many ugly surface parking lots there are and some still complain about losing parking everytime a new project is announced. Healthy cbds dont have surface parking like this.
  5. This shows you dont need a large foot print when you dont waste property on ugly surface parking. We do need many more of these.
  6. Build an urban target downtown where the Charles store was with residential above. We need retail in the main commercial area of downtown.
  7. An aerial photo really shows how much property is wasted on surface parking lots in this city. With all the development in Manchester there is still so much emptiness. At least it has potential for more development.
  8. "A vibrant city core is necessary for regional growth. " This needs to be the top priority. We just had an election last year and not one candidate had a plan for the revitalization of downtown Richmond.
  9. I like that they are going to use Grace and Belvidere as the main gateway to campus. This is much needed. I think Grace being more narrow will work better than the wider Broad St.
  10. Scotts Addition wins easily. Pulse, bike, walk vs car. End of discussion. Then theres always the keep Richmond empty choice. That has been chosen way to often. Citys dont work when they are empty.
  11. I call them the keep Richmond empty crowd. The ones that are against everything are always the loudest. Its a miracle that the Pulse was approved. No ballpark in the bottom, no arena downtown, no casino. That dont like shiny things they like ugly asphalt parking lots.
  12. Downtown across the street from the convention center is where it should go. We have this huge investment so why not enhance it. Its right in front of their face.
  13. You are right. 20 stories is not a high rise. IMO there are no high rises in Richmond yet. Also, the 20 stories will only come after there has been alot of development and the land has become much more valuable.
  14. The pumps are gone. Construction fencing laying on the ground.
  15. They are going to put another life sciences building there. They have been wanting to do that for a long time.
  16. First off there is no plan for commuter rail. Virginia Railway Express is commuter rail. Commuter rail would be trains from Ashland, Petersburg etc bringing passengers into the city. The only rail planned in the future is INTRAcity (amtrack. Businesses and hotels are downtown why would you drop passengers off here. This plan was all wrong right from the statement that downtown is moving to the boulevard. This area is experiencing the development it is because of the availablility of ugly surface parking. Around 90,000 people work downtown. That's not going to change. The plan in Richmond is for BRT to serve commuters into the city.
  17. I think this is another example of the strong suburban bias that still exists in the Richmond area. Its the same mindset that has people wanting more parking downtown when downtown has way too many parking lots now. If the county's grow as much as these projections show there will be total grid lock in the built up areas. That will cause even more people to move to the City. That can't pave their way out of what they continue to build out there and they are not even looking at public transportation.
  18. How about building a brewery in the heart of Richmond on Broad St downtown in the commercial district? Just one near all the entertainment venues would be great.
  19. The developers of this project should be thanked for investing their capital in downtown Richmond. There is nothing bad about this project. There needs to be a lot more traffic downtown. Its the central business district. If you don't like congestion move.
  20. The folks on that hill are nimbys and they are ruining downtown Richmond's redevelopment. This looks like a great project. Some residential mid-rises are really needed downtown.
  21. I think it would be better if BRT went to Chimborazo Park anyway. These comments are all the more reason. Serve a city neighborhood. Hell with anything in selfish henrico.
  22. Nice to get rid of another one of the worst surface parking lots downtown. This will be great for the area.
  23. If the ball park is in a pedestrian accessible area many people walk bike or take transit to the ball park. It is all about where the park is located. In the bottom at least 25% to 30% of the trips will be made by walk, bike or transit. No one walks to a game at the diamond because you can't. Thinking that no one will walk is a big part of the problem. The games are very popular. People will go to the games.
