  1. I had a chance to walk by there today and there is some work already going on in the building. In the windows they have a few black and white renderings of the project. Looks like they want to have two 2500 sq ft penthouses on the top floor, some residentail/office space on the 2nd. with retail on the bottom. looks like a pretty cool deal to me. they are having an open house tomorrow night (Nov. 11). I can't go, but if anyone is interested in going and getting more details it would be great.
  2. I may have missed it, but does anyone know what is happening over at the county offices across from the auditorium? They are tearing up a lot of the parking lot and moving around a good bit of dirt, but I can't really tell wht they are doing.
  3. When they reconfigured the intersection of converse and St. john, they put in curbing to allow for reverse andgle parking on the side opposite the church. However, when they striped it, they put parallel parking on the church side which made the road do a stupid curve right when you get to the intersection. i hope this fixes that, but we'll wait and see.
  4. The widening project is on Hwy. 9. The goofy thing is they have started at the hwy.292/Edwards road area and are working their way back down to BS. So now you will go to two lanes at Walmart, then open back up to 4 once you pass the schools, and then back down to two again before you get to the lake. go figure...
  5. Yeah, those two buildings both need to come down. i think the city would love to buy the nautilas fitness center and demolish it and try to develop the whole are, but i doubt that will happen.
  6. I can understand your frustration sparkleman but I don't think the blame lies with the BMW officials. what i mean is if you go to the bmwusafactory site it clearly says spartanburg, as well as the driving school. i watched Ultimate Factories and the officials always referenced spartanburg. That said, i just don't think that they are concerned about "territorial" issues like locals are. I don't think that there is any big push to move away from the spartanburg tag. When people ask me where the factory is located I simply say that it is in Spartanburg, near Greer. (same with GSP)
  7. Longhorn steakhouse is coming back to Spartanburg. While I'm thrilled that they are coming back, I'm a little shocked at their site choice. they are going into the westgate village shopping center in the old Pier 1 location. now while I'm all for re-use of big boxes, i'm just a little surprises that they would choose that one since circuit city is no longer there, and the only other stores are dollar general and office depot. the article says that it will be based on their new "modern" style. they have a lot of work to do to make that place look modern, but more power to 'em. ARTICLE
  8. WSPA is reporting that Winston-Salem is getting the CAT plant with around 400 jobs.
  9. I believe the GSA article said that the 84 mil would take the airport to the 2030 date and the 99 mil would extend that until 2040.
  10. One report said it was going to be in Duncan at the 85/290 exit.
  11. Spartanburg is one of 3 locations for a significant Caterpillar plant!! An announcement may be made in August. No location given. ARTICLE
  12. While walking down Main Street yesterday, i noticed some men inside the Kiddie Korner building with measuring tapes and architectual sketches. It could be nothing, but I would love to see a restaurant or shop move on into that building. Has anyone heard anything?
  13. Is Rock Water Tavern still open as a sports club? it's off the street, but has a cool side patio.
  14. There are a lot of roads being paved in Spartanburg right now. While that is a good thing, my hope is the traffic engineer stripes them with a little common sense. It drives me crazy to see new roads with stupid markings causing confusion. For exapmle, if you are traveling on Magnolia from the depot crossing Daniel Morgan headed to the courthouse, you have a right turn only lane with one straight lane. However when you look across, you see two straight lanes and people cross all over the place not knowing which lane to go. they could have easily put one straight lane with angled parking and solved all that. same thing with Converse over at the CCC and First Baptist. They put the gutters in for "back-in" parking across from the FBSside , but instead put parralel parking on the FBS side, making trafiic curve all over. I've had to get out of my car and tell several little ole ladies that they are in the oncoming traffic lane. I'm grateful for the roads, just USE SOME SENSE!!
  15. Liberty street extension is closed again. They are still working on the rain garden, sidewalks and other infrastructure. When I went to the city's website, they calle dit the "loop". don't know where that name came from and still can't fine a master plan of the area.
  16. they been grading for a while. I actually drove it yesterday (don't know if I was supposed to). I turned off of St.John between the Cultural center and the George. It is a straight shot to Daniel Morgan, and that is also where you enter the new parking garage which seemed to be open. As far as Converse, it looks like they are not taking it to Daniel Morgan, but curving it behind the CCC to intersect with the new Liberty and then continue over to the Marriott and connect with Church St. They are going to have to negotiate around the funeral home garage or simply tear it down. it is such an eyesore.
  17. I think that Liberty Street from the George to Daniel Morgan is now open to traffic.
  18. The stock ticker is up and running on the "George". Looks really nice and easy to read, but I hope nobody gets rear-ended slowing down to read how the market is going. As far as Converse Street, i would love to see it extended, but they may have to deal with the landscaped storm water feature (big hole). Converse street would likely have to work around it a little. Liberty street is paved and guttered and lanscaping is going up around the George and parking garage.
  19. BMW is changing up their visitor experiences. For $99.00 you can tour the Zentrum, visit the Heritage Museum, take a guided tour of the plant and then have a 2 hour driving experience at the performace track. I haven't even been to the Zentrum, but this really peaks my interest and I think will be an even bigger tourest dra for the Upstate. ARTICLE
  20. I agree that the light would be a good idea, especially if that is going to be the main entrance into the new garage as well as liberty extension going all the way to Daniel Morgan (which is now paved). One of the Master plan pictures showed a big median with a statue there helping to make it feel more pedestrian friendly. And speaking of one who travels Dean street almost everyday, I appreciate the light.
  21. I'm glad Braissereis not closing, and I'm kind of glad about the name change. I like the food, but always stopped short of inviting friends to meet me there, because i could never pronounce the name.
  22. I saw that same pedestrian bridge, but thought that was just a USC fan putting out some suggestion/concepts for WB. It had a nice 'fly around" video also, but i don't think any of it was "official", but I could be wrong. Is George Rogers Blvd. part of (I don't know the way to say) state road system to where the city would have to get special permission to close that end off?
  23. I've always wondered what it would be like to close the intersection of George Rogers Blvd. and Bluff Road (on the WB side). You could have George Rogers blvd. end right in front of the North stands and have like a big circle of champions or some plaza right there between the fairgrounds parking and the stadium. traffic would no longer be an issue walking from the fairgrounds. i know it would mess up people getting to the ETV building etc... but you could make Rosewood the preffered road to get to George Rogers/Assembly or cut through the other roads if you are coming from I-77. Just thinking... any thoughts?
  24. I like the Garfield's at westgate, but hardly ever eat there, because they either don't have a great ventelation system or their smoking area is just too large. the entire restaurant smells like smoke and while it doesn't bother me too much, my wife and small child just can't take it. Overall, I enjoy shopping at the mall (not that I like to shop period). I like having Dick's and Bed Bath and Beyond connected as well as having an outside entrance.
  25. Do you know where the Longhorn will be?
