  1. Well, if that is all that those homes in Le Oaks cost, I am with you (not that I wasn't the whole time) in believing that they have nothing to turn their noses up at. You are right it would add value to their homes. Yeah, I would love to see some of my friends from Monroe move here. I think they would be better off. The reasons that they hang on is family and friends. There is really nothing else keeping them there. I am glad I moved back! On another note, the money was approved for the track renovation to lure the SWAC conference championships here and possibly eventually lure the SWAC headquarters here. http://www.shreveporttimes.com/apps/pbcs.d.../611290332/1002 One more update, here is the story on the James Avery Jewelry Store opening. http://www.shreveporttimes.com/apps/pbcs.d.../611280312/1064
  2. From other thread, was having lunch with 2 brothers from Monroe. Anyway, one brother has lived in Monroe all is life and cannot see how crappy it is. The other has been around and lived in Atlanta for several years and agrees with me. They were over here because the one that lived in ATL was setting up that new ATM machine for Iberia bank at Uptown Shopping Center. I was telling them of all the development and the new things we are getting and also knocking on Monroe. I asked why he would want to live in such a dying place. As many know 2 yrs ago they lost State Farm (1100 emp) and are now in the process of losing The Guide Plant (800 emp). I was telling him he needs to come to a happening place like SBC. I guess I just like to brag about SBC!!!
  3. You know, that is funny because I lived in Monroe for 5 years and the skyline is pitiful there. I actually had lunch with 2 of my friends (that are brothers) from Monroe today at Gumbo Daddy's. We talked a lot about the development of SBC and lack there of in Monroe. Check the SBC development thread for more because I don't want to detract from the skyline talk.
  4. It is possible. How much do homes go for in Le Oaks? FYI there are Jags, Lexus', BMWs, Mercedes, and Cadillacs in Stockwell Landing. Go through the Stockwell subdivisions and see if you see that. You may a couple of times. That is another perk to apartment living, low debt to income ratio. You tend to have more credit.
  5. Of course not. I don't think that Stockwell Landing looks like $300K homes and if they look nicer than Stockwell Landing, should they really complain? I think that the only way they should complain is if it didn't look as good as or better that the surrounding homes standards; or it was not gated. I do think that apartments should be gated because if not it is definitely less attractive. BTW is Le Oaks gated?
  6. Yeah, you better watch it! Not scared.
  7. It's not too bad. It sure would be more scenic with another nice development, don't you think??? It would be nice to see some of that trash cleaned out of there!!!
  8. Hey! No talking bad about Shreveport's skyline. You know it is cool even if it doesn't have a building over 400 ft! If I recall correctly you said it was 2nd best in LA. Hummmm????
  9. Another JDB span would help and is seriously needed. I'm sure it will happen sooner rather than later. CVS just opened up not too long ago. Speaking of Sligo, I was down there a day or two ago and there was a large area of land being cleared and it had a residential builders sign on it. I cannot remember who it was though.
  10. South Bossier has so much potential. All the new subdivisions, the new school soon to be built and CTC I am suprised that there has not been more retail development. The only thing I think that it could be is all the people that are anti-development and the bad neighborhoods on Barksdale Blvd.
  11. Didn't know that, but thanks for telling me. I will be sure to avoid it at all costs! Kinda creepy eating where someone was murdered. Not for me, thanks.
  12. I am definitely about to check it out. I've noticed that most of the people on the Shreveport Times forum are idiots. They all pretty much seem to be trolls. As far as south Bossier goes, they need more development. They need a Wal-Mart among other things. I think what they need more than that is some restaurants about CTC. The only decent place to eat over there (before or after an event) is Johnny's Pizza. Other than that it is Subway, Taco Bell or McDonalds. BTW is Arena BBQ closed down???
  13. Here's how I see the cities ranking: 1)Houston - It has a SWAC school and it IS Houston, 2)Shreveport - Is in the middle of the conference area as the article points out and Grambling is close, 3) Jackson - Has a SWAC school but I'm partial to Shreveport, 4) Dallas - No SWAC school and out of the conference area, 5) Atlanta - Out of the conference area, no SWAC school in the state, but it IS Atlanta, 6) Alexandria - No SWAC school and a small city. I could be off though. As far as CVS, I have not seen the one at North Market/North Hearne, but I still don't know if that Haughton site could support one the size of the one at Airline/E. Texas. It may be close though.
  14. I was reading an article in the Times today about how one of the last issues of the old city council was to approve a $100,000 renovation of Lee Hedges Stadium to lure the SWAC outdoor track and field championships from 2007-2009. This is also how the article billed, but it had more in it than that. The underlying story is that Shreveport is in talks with the SWAC to move their headquarters from Birmingham to downtown Shreveport. That would be awesome to have an athletic conference headquartered here. The SWAC consists of Alabama A&M, Alabama State, Alcorn State, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Grambling State, Jackson State, Mississippi Valley State, Prairie View A&M, Southern, and Texas Southern. http://www.shreveporttimes.com/apps/pbcs.d...80340/1002/NEWS Also for Brian (or anyone else in Haughton), I drove by the CVS Haughton site today, there is a lot more land there than I originally thought. It seems as though they are also clearing the land behind that old oil change place. I just thought that may interest you. One more note, I hate that Dollar Store on Stockwell. It is definitely an eyesore and is drawing trash to the area. I refuse to go there, unfortunately there are a lot of people who do not.
  15. Glad to see the rezoning passed. This has to be the lamest bs quote I have ever read! Maybe not ever, but up there. I watched the video on KTBS and residents said they plan to fight it at Police Jury meeting on Dec 1. What a bunch of whiners. http://www.ktbs.com/news/local/4758376.html
  16. I don't know if anyone has ever heard of this place, but I found this blurb about a Dagwood's Sandwich Shop opening here in early 2007. http://www.shreveporttimes.com/apps/pbcs.d.../611220316/1064
  17. I've often wanted a Panda Express in this area! Here's to hoping that's what they get themselves by all their whining!!! Trust me, as I have spoken about earlier, they do not want a Dollar Store. Stockwell Road got one and I see the undesirables it is drawing into this neighborhood every day.
  18. Hey Brian, remember the other day I was asking about something going up at Airline and 220 that looked more than a story high? I was by there again and it was on the WK Medical Plaza site. It looked like it may have been an elevator shaft. Starbucks Plaza is going up, but it looks like progress is slow. I noticed on the SDI site that curbs and black top has been poured. I will be really excited when walls begin to go up. I also noticed a development on Airline by Trejo's. Do you know what this is??? I was also thinking about the land between Wal-Mart and Home Depot on Airline; do you think it will ever be developed? Someone has been sitting on it for a loooong time. Do you know who even owns it? I would think it must be an individual because there are cows on it! Somebody is going to make a lot of money one day.
  19. I may have to go over in the daytime and look. It looked like it was at least 2 stories high. Is WK building over there too?
  20. Hey Brian, have you been to I-220 and Airline lately? I was over there the other night and it looked like they have a tall building going up on the WK side of Airline. It was night time and they were out there working. Do you know what that is?
  21. Hey everyone, check this out. It is a story on KTBS about the airport trying to lure Southwest back! This would be so awesome. On a sour note, the article also says that the airport authority voted to sell some of the airports land for low income housing. Does Shreveport really need more low income housing? I wonder who this developer, Jeff Dunman, is related to or is owed a favor by. http://www.ktbs.com/news/local/4669221.html
  22. You know I have been thinking. As everyone knows we need a serious university. I think LSUS is in a good location. I think they need to go big. They need to expand their campus and build some nice apartment style dorms as Tech and ULM have done. I think they need to make it feel like a real college and not just a community college. They need to expand their curriculum and offer things people would want to come here for. They should also should work closely with Tech and LSUHSC and act as a satellite for Tech's engineering and LSUHSC's medical professional programs. Good idea or no? I would say maybe even a name change. LSUS seems to satellite-ish (because that's what it is now). UL would be good. ULL is trying to claim UL and ULM has not done even that. Let's just step in and take it! Make them the satellites!
  23. Seeing all that she has done so far makes me wonder if she thinks at all. Maybe I am just uninformed, but has she done anything positive or progressive in her term? Seems like she has had a lot of nice vacations though.
  24. Wow. I didn't know all of that. That stuff makes me want to cry. They need to fix it and get those companies back in here to talk turkey. Those are things we need. We don't need Diamond Jacks. We need something to draw tourists here. What is Louisiana thinking. Again, we are failed by our state.
  25. I think that her recent trips are purely political. Monroe has lost State Farm and The Guide Plant under her watch and she has lost so many votes there. She has no other options but to go to Asia and act like she can get them a Toyota plant. Yeah right. If Toyota was a real possibility why would you want to send it to Monroe. They clearly have a failing economy. We, on the other hand, have automotive experience and a port. This thing from Kuwait may happen, but I seriously doubt it. It would happen before Toyota did. Again, trying to get votes from the NO area because of how she failed them. I think she stinks as a governor.
