  1. Seen in the window of a locked POMEGRANATE EURO BISTRO, a sign indicating that they have closed the business.
  2. I scanned through the article this morning to see if they mentioned your twitter activity, flack4ric, but I didn't see anything about it. Shame on them! I didn't have the time to read through it thoroughly, but I'll sit down with it tonight.
  3. Aahh, gotcha -- thanks for clearing that up!
  4. That's an interesting way to say that it was a XXX theater, burt.... Or am I getting it mixed up with another spot on Grace? I know there was a XXX theater on that part of Grace about 15-20 years ago, but I could have sworn it was the Biograph.
  5. There are only about 15 seats, so it is primarily take out. crashvt03: Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that I read in the paper this morning that KONA GRILL is opening either today or tomorrow.
  6. RUCHEE EXPRESS is the location you're referring to in the Fan. The address is 1201 West Main Street, where FAT LARRY'S STEAKS & HOAGIES was. They opened last week. I just got off of the phone with the owner a few minutes ago just to check in. I sold FAT LARRY'S to them about two months ago. (meaning that I brokered the deal) I'm glad to hear they are getting such good press, especially with the opening of their new location!
  7. THE SKYY BAR & JAZZ PALACE 4 West Broad St.
  8. Interesting post on RVAjazz on the new BOGARTS location at Cary & Granby Streets: http://www.rvajazz.com/2008/12/drive-by-bogarts.html
  9. Nope, I haven't heard anything. In fact, I don't know that I've ever heard anything about it other than from this forum -- maybe a blurb in Style at some point...
  10. Good memory, burt! The restaurant/club at 16 N 18th St was BPM, and he has pulled out of there. I manage the building, so I'm working on finding a replacement and preferably someone to buy the property, not just to move in as a tenant. I don't know who owns/operates 3-2-1 SUPPER CLUB, but it's not the same owner as AFTER 6. I don't think I should get into revealing too many details since I have been in the middle of a lot of it. As a few of the other posters on here know, it's a fine line sometimes when you're involved as to what qualifies as "too much" information -- not that anything is secret, just that you need to be able to afford your clients and customers a certain level of confidentiality.
  11. Exactly, but I'm not sure what happened to the winches (the machinery, not "wenches" ) that they were using for the aerial displays. They may be using them in the new setup, or maybe they are just sitting there in case they want to use them at some point. To summarize: old ---> new AFTER 6 ---> 3-2-1 SUPPER CLUB BIG DADDY'S ---> AFTER 6
  12. Actually, AFTER 6 is the name of the establishment that occupied 3-2-1 SUPPER CLUB's space prior to the current owners taking over. The owner of AFTER 6 left around the time of the flood, and is now reopened in place of BIG DADDY'S.
  13. Then again...maybe you're not being as defensive as I read into your comment. That's the drawback to text -- the context of a comment is easy to misunderstand.
  14. Easy there, buddy.... No need to get defensive. Reread my comment -- and come to think of it, no one said anything about "stealing". Besides, Charlotte wants Monroe and Richmond wants to keep him. It sounds like it's good all around that there's a candidate worth both cities getting all googly-eyed over.
  15. It's a shame that the Braves aren't moving there, too....then we could just say they are trying to reconstruct Richmond down there.
  16. I believe the name of the Thai restaurant is ALEX'S THAI. I have a couple of co-workers that live very close by and they've eaten there a few times already. They've been raving about the food. I don't have any word on PAPA NINGO's expansion, but I'll check the next time I talk with the owner. Good to hear that SHEBA is coming along. I hope it's another great addition to the 17th Street restaurant corridor!
  17. From the Style Weekly website: "Style Weekly restaurant critic Brandon Fox talks food with radio host Doc Thompson on WRVA 1140-AM. Tune into the show for more on our State of the Plate Thursday, March 20, at 4 p.m." I'm not sure I'll be able to tune in, but I'm going to try. I thought the Richmond restaurant enthusiasts here may be interested, too.
  18. Funny, that's the same thing I was thinking when I read the article in the paper. I was hoping it might stop some of these thefts. I've heard of a multi-unit building where someone broke into an access panel and stole the pipes out of the walls, leaving the water pouring out.
  19. Thanks for the insight, VPDcurt! We went down to CAFE GUTENBERG on Saturday night for dessert after eating for the first time at SETTE (which was amazing, btw!). We had heard from one of the servers that she was losing her job, so we thought we would get a visit in before it shuts down. Being in the business of restaurant brokering, I hear a lot of rumors and couldn't be sure if this was just an another rumor from an over-reaction to the "For Sale" sign on the building. I also hope that if they do leave, that someone takes the reigns and keeps it going. I know a lot of people that would be sorely disappointed in the loss, and Shockoe Bottom doesn't need to lose such a respected establishment.
  20. Yep. KONSTA'S --> CARLTON'S --> VERBENA
  21. Now that's customer service!
  22. Speaking of Shockoe Bottom, the meeting regarding the Dowtown Master Plan and how it affects Shockoe Bottom and Shockoe Slip is being held at Main Street Station tonight from 6pm-8pm. If anyone else is planning to be there, let me know and be sure to say hello at the meeting.
  23. Yep, the BOSS is still open and doing well from what I hear. "...defile it with parking." ---- That's great.
  24. I wonder what the address was of that...or more to the point, what is in the location now. There was a club just west of Laurel and Broad called IVORY'S that was open when I was seeing shows at THE METRO (now EMPIRE). I think it has been abandoned since then, and I don't know what it was before IVORY'S.
  25. Loads and loads of insight. What's the specific question? There are plenty of rumors surrounding any store closing. If there is a padlock and a "no trespassing" sign, then that usually means that the tenant was locked out due to non-payment or some other default. If there is just a For Lease sign in the window, then it could be they were locked out or it could be that the tenant left voluntarily, either because the lease ended or they negotiated a termination with the landlord. I don't have any specific news about ACAPELLA, but I saw a flyer for the sale of CAFE GUTENBERG (looked like it was business and property for sale) and they had the name right there on the flyer -- so not even a hint that confidentiality was an issue. It's sounds as though CAFE GUTENBERG has decided to close down for any number of reasons and sell the whole kit and kaboodle.
